Many people who use Bitcoin faucets want to check the value of their satoshis in USD, so we made this easy calculator for people to do just that! How can I grow the values of the satoshis? The best way is probably to just hold the satoshis and hope the rise in value. Why is USD used to calculate satoshis value? Most BTC is traded in USD, so that is also a popular way to calculate satoshis value. Each bitcoin (BTC) is divisible to the 8th decimal place, so each BTC can be split into 100,000,000 units. Each unit of bitcoin, or 0.00000001 bitcoin, is called a satoshi. A Satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. Satoshi to Bitcoin is a Bitcoin converter/calculator. Satoshi (unit). All About Cryptocurrency - Bitcoin Wiki

Satoshi is the smallest indivisible unit of electronic currency in the bitcoin network . In fact, in the world of Satoshi cryptocurrency is the same as in the real world a penny or a cent. It is a one hundred millionth of a single bitcoin (0.00000001 BTC). The unit has been named in collective homage to the original creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto . When considering the decision on the limit of the digital currency issue (now it is 21 million), the question of its popularity was raised. After all, with such a small volume to gain popularity, at that time, it seemed quite problematic. As a result, it was decided to introduce a change coin, thereby crushing one bitcoin into a huge number of parts. In the end, this coin was called "Satoshi". There are many calculators for converting various currencies into other cryptocurrencies or Fiat money - stock calculator All amounts in the blockchain are denominated in satoshi before being converted for display. The source code also uses satoshi when specifying an amount of bitcoin. When displaying an extremely small fraction of a bitcoin, as in a faucet , the amount is displayed in satoshi for readability. The value of a bitcoin in satoshi was decided by Satoshi Nakamoto to be 100 million no later than November 2008 [2] . On November 15, 2010, Ribuck proposed that the one hundredth of a bitcoin (0.01 BTC) be called a Satoshi. Four months later he instead suggested that the one hundred millionth unit be called an austrian or a satoshi. The name satoshi caught on, and was widely adopted thereafter. Traditionally, the plural form has been simply satoshi, but the term satoshis is also popular. If the plural form were to follow the rules of Japanese grammar, it may be pronounced as satoshi, or satoshisa. Satoshi is sometimes abbre Continue reading >>

Satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. Just like 1 cent is the smallest unit of the dollar or 1 pence is the smallest unit of pound Satoshi represents the smallest denomination of a bitcoin Satoshi was named after the mysterious inventor of Bitcoin protocol Satoshi Nakamoto. As in case of Fiat currencies like USD, we have smaller units for e.g for USD smallest unit is sent and 1 cent = 0.01 dollars. Satoshi represents the smallest unit for Bitcoin. Some of the exchanges along with Bitcoin to USD price also quote prices in USD for Satoshi so if you are looking to invest a small amount Satoshi will be the unit you would like to buy bitcoins as it helps you not worry about long fractions if you are investing small amounts. At protocol level there are no bitcoins there are only Satoshis, so 2^8 Satoshis aggregate to represent one bitcoin. 1 Satoshi is equal to 0.00000001 Bitcoins, which essentially means every bitcoin can be divided into 10000000 units. So every bitcoin can be divided into fractional units till 8 digits. Converting Satoshis To Bitcoins Issue Using Php

Converting Satoshis To Bitcoins Issue Using Php

Converting satoshis to bitcoins issue using PHP I am having PHP calculation problems (I think - i am reasonably new to PHP). function convertToBTCFromSatoshi($value){ $BTC = ($value / 100000000 ); return (float)$BTC;} If $value = 10000 the result is correct of "0.0001" Yet if $value = 5000 the result is "-5.0E-5" why the -1 ? it was a genuine question! Ford Jul 14 '13 at 21:52 Please note that one should never use floating point in money calculations, as it may lose accuracy. stackoverflow.com/questions/3730019/ Mikko Ohtamaa Jul 16 '13 at 7:11 This question appears to be off-topic because it is about php programming. Stphane Gimenez Jul 20 '13 at 18:13 You really should not use floating point math for precision decimal values. It is a little-regarded truth of computer programming that when you're dealing with money you should avoid the usual IEEE floating-point math like the plague. This is the reason why Bitcoin transactions store values as 64-bit integers. Because storing them as floating point numbers is error-prone. For example, in your interactive PHP shell you can do something like this to find out where your math begins to break: php > echo 10000.00000001 * 2;20000.00000002php > echo 100000.00000001 * 2;200000.00000002php > echo 1000000.00000001 * 2;2000000 I'm running 64-bit PHP, too. If you are running 32-bit PHP the situation becomes pretty dire. The take-away here is that overall precision of floating point numbers is limited. The bigger your number, the fewer meaningful decimal places it can have. The correct way to address this problem is to use PHP's BC Math functions. You keep your data as strings, and BCMath will let you perform arbitrary-precision computations. It isn't as fast as floating point math, but it isn't exactly slow either. /** Convert Sato Continue reading >>

Terminology - What Is A 'satoshi'? - Bitcoin Stack Exchange

I am aware that Satoshi Nakamoto is the author of the paper that originated Bitcoin and the creator of the original bitcoin client. However, I often hear the term Satoshi as if it was a monetary unit. A Satoshi is the smallest fraction of a Bitcoin that can currently be sent: 0.00000001 BTC, that is, a hundredth of a millionth BTC. In the future, however, the protocol may be updated to allow further subdivisions, should they be needed. Note that it's possible that future protocol versions will introduce amounts smaller than a Satoshi, if deemed required by the community. I'm not sure how likely this is. bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/122/ ripper234 Aug 30 '11 at 23:02 @eMansipater It might be worth editing your answer just a touch to ensure that people don't think that there is a limit to the number of decimal places possible. Gary Rowe Sep 9 '11 at 10:35 It's Michael's answer, but I updated it anyway. eMansipater Sep 10 '11 at 12:08 Isn't one BTC a HUNDRED million Satoshis? Blaisorblade May 11 '14 at 23:51 A Satoshi is 0.00000001 BTC and currently the smallest transaction unit. If a Satoshi was equivalent to one penny, a microBTC would be equivalent to one dollar, and one BTC would be equivalent to 1,000,000 dollars. With one BTC on the order of $1,000 USD, a Satoshi is equivalent to .001 penny -1 No new information in comparison to the previous answers. Murch Jan 22 '14 at 13:36 @Murch -1 on your comment. What is Satoshi? Satoshi To BTC & USD Converters By: Sudhir Khatwani In: Bitcoin Last Updated: So, if you live in the world, you are probably using some kind of national currency like INR, USD, GBP, or EUR. Some national currencies (like USD) have a cent, which is 1/100 part of the currency. Similarly, in the world of Bitcoin , there are very small currency units. In this article we will learn everything about our beloved Bitcoins & its units. Bitcoin, the worlds first cryptocurrency , has a unit called Satoshi. A Satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. It is named after Satoshi Nakamoto , the creator of Bitcoin. Each BTC is divisible until the 1/10^8 part.A unit of Satoshi is equal to 0.00000001 bitcoin. Since Bitcoins inception, it has only ever had two official units- Bitcoin and Satoshi. In 2015, Bitcoin was included under ISO 4217 which does standardization for currencies. After that, the following naming conventions have been used: This above-explained currency conversion system can be cumbersome and difficult to understand. Though the conversion involves just moving decimal places here and there, it has to be done carefully, otherwise while receiving or sending bitcoins, you can lose a significant amount. Some do-it-yourself tools are available to make this conversion simpler. We use this tool for Satoshi to bitcoin conversion and highly recommend it (free to use). Another factor which affects conversions is the fluctuating rate of fiat currency and Bitcoin. This fluctuation is based on supply and demand in the market, which makes it harder to calculate the exact amount you need to send or receive. For such conversions, special calculators are used whichkeep track of all the fluctuations under the hood and gives you accurate conversion rates. With the use of su Continue reading >>

What is Bitcoin and how does the digital currency work? Bitcoinis a digital currency (crypto currency) which is mined (created and stored electronically). Bitcoins are not printed physically and not created by central banks either it is a decentralized currency, which is produced by people. Bitcoin is decentralized and there is no no state control. Satoshi Nakamoto, a software developer, presented the crypto-currency in 2008. Today it is still unknown, who is behind the pseudonym. Bitcoin is based on mathematics. Moreover there is no institutional structure, that lies behind Bitcoin and is responsible for impairment. More than 80% of Bitcoin have already been mined: the maximum will be reached with 21 million. One additional inflation protection is the basic code. The code itself is stated that there cannot exist more than 21 million Bitcoin. With 20.999.999,9769 there will not be produced any Bitcoins any more. This is the reason why Bitcoin is protected against inflation and why you cannot produce an unlimited amount of Bitcoin. But why are so many people interested in Bitcoin? Some countries, for example Australia and Japan, have acknowledged Bitcoin as official mode of payment. It is the different characteristics and advantages, of course, which make Bitcoin something special. Moreover it is the development of price at the beginning of the year 2017 a Bitcoin was 900$, today the price is close to 8000$. Bitcoin network is decentralized this means, that Bitcoin is not controlled through a central bank, government or any institution. Every single computer producing and transferring Bitcoin is automatically part of the network. Bitcoin is therefore an independent currency. When you open an account at a bank, you have to overcome some bureaucratic hurdles. The Bitcoin Continue reading >>

The smallest unit of the bitcoin cryptocurrency. Satoshi is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of the protocol used in block chains and the bitcoin cryptocurrency. Unlike the physical versions of global currencies, such as the British pound or U.S. dollar, cryptocurrencies predominately exist in the digital world. Despite this difference, a cryptocurrency can be divided into smaller units, just as the pound is broken into pence and the dollar into cents. In the case of bitcoins, the smallest unit available is called the satoshi. The satoshi unit is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, published a paper in 2008 that jumpstarted the development of the bitcoin cryptocurrency. The paper, Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System, described the use of a peer-to-peer network as a solution to the problem of double-spending. The problem that a digital currency or token can used in more than one transaction is not found in physical currencies, as a physical bill or coin can, by its nature, only exist in one place at a single time. Since a digital currency does not exist in the physical space, using it in a transaction does not remove it from someones possession. The satoshi represents one hundred millionth of a bitcoin. Small denominations make bitcoin transactions easier to conduct transactions with. The general unit structure of bitcoins has 1 bitcoin (BTC) equivalent to 1,000 millibitcoins (mBTC), 1,000,000 microbitcoins (BTC), or 100,000,000 satoshis. While the exact figure is unknown, it is estimated that Satoshi Nakamoto may possess 1 million bitcoins, equivalent to 100,000,000,000,000 satoshi. While not part of a major currency pair, bitcoins can be converted to and from other currencies. Bitcoin exchanges exist in order to allow individuals to conduct transactions. Continue reading >>
