Analyzing Cryptocurrency Markets Using Python

Analyzing Cryptocurrency Markets Using Python

Analyzing Cryptocurrency Markets Using Python A Data-Driven Approach To Cryptocurrency Speculation How do Bitcoin markets behave? What are the causes of the sudden spikes and dips in cryptocurrency values? Are the markets for different altcoins inseparably linked or largely independent? How can we predict what will happen next? Articles on cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, are rife with speculation these days, with hundreds of self-proclaimed experts advocating for the trends that they expect to emerge. What is lacking from many of these analyses is a strong foundation of data and statistics to backup the claims. The goal of this article is to provide an easy introduction to cryptocurrency analysis using Python. We will walk through a simple Python script to retrieve, analyze, and visualize data on different cryptocurrencies. In the process, we will uncover an interesting trend in how these volatile markets behave, and how they are evolving. This is not a post explaining what cryptocurrencies are (if you want one, I would recommend this great overview ), nor is it an opinion piece on which specific currencies will rise and which will fall. Instead, all that we are concerned about in this tutorial is procuring the raw data and uncovering the stories hidden in the numbers. The tutorial is intended to be accessible for enthusiasts, engineers, and data scientists at all skill levels. The only skills that you will need are a basic understanding of Python and enough knowledge of the command line to setup a project. A completed version of the notebook with all of the results is available here . The easiest way to install the dependencies for this project from scratch is to use Anaconda, a prepackaged Python data science ecosystem and dependency manager. To setup Continue reading >>

The (official) Tron Github - Cryptocurrency

So this coin has been pumped for weeks or months and never had a GitHub repo? Verge is top 20, that should tell you literally anything can happen. The code wasn't open source until today. They still had a working product prior to this :) Their GitHub repository was set to private. It was set to public today as they went open source. The initial commit was on the 19th of December, followed by another large commit most of the source code. So they probably had it stored in version control other than GitHub prior to that. Not everyone uses GitHub, or even git for that matter. Dont trust people or projects who dont use git version control... > 2 years account age. < 700 comment karma. Neither Google (Perforce) nor Facebook (first mercurial, then an adapted internally-written modified git) use git for version control. A very, very large chunk of the fortune 500 uses svn. They seem pretty trustworthy* to me. Git and github are excellent products, and more or less completely ubiquitous at this point, but there are a large number of reasons to avoid DVCS like git. in terms of engineering rigor; probably not in terms of keeping consumers' best interests in mind Continue reading >>

New Website Ranks 600 Cryptocurrencies By Github Activity

New Website Ranks 600 Cryptocurrencies by Github Activity From market cap to trading volume, theres a lot of ways to assess and quantify cryptocurrencies. Traders evaluating new crypto projects are prone to diving deep in their quest to uncover diamonds in the rough. Github activity the frequency with which the code governing cryptocurrencies is updated provides a good indicator of which projects are still being cared for and which have been allowed to go to seed. Cryptomiso is a new website that logs and charts the Github commits for over 600 cryptos, and its top 10 contains a few surprises. At present, Cryptomiso lists the commit history of 611 cryptocurrencies and charts the frequency with which their codebase is updated. The top five performers, based on developer activity, are predictably tied to new or yet-to-launch projects where there is still much work to be done. Top of the heap is Cardano, with over 6,500 commits from 51 contributors, followed by Lisk, Waves, 0x, and EOS. Bitcoin comes in at number seven, just behind Globaltoken, an obscure that coin is only available on Coinexchange. Its entire market cap is just $350,000. Github commit frequency shows that core code is being maintained, but it doesnt show the quality of these updates. For example, a minor bug fix would be scored the same as adding Lightning Network support. As a broad indicator of a cryptocurrencys developer support, however, Cryptomiso is a useful tool. While the coins that are top of the list can safely be regarded as a going concern, those that are bottom of the pile need to buck up their act. The likes of Bigup (609th) and Tittiecoin (608th) are no particular surprise. Nor is Fedoracoin (586th), which warrants a mention if only to note that its ticker is TIPS. A number of better known Continue reading >>

Lets Write A Cryptocurrency Bot. (part1)

Lets Write A Cryptocurrency Bot. (part1)

I write tutorials that I wish I found, instead of having to write. I like puzzles, games, beer and travel and any combinations of those. Lets write a cryptocurrency bot. (part1) Want to make your own BTC bot? Ill walk you through the full setup, on to your first execution of an automated trade, and beyond. This is a three part article: Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 I should not need to tell you but, a couple months ago you could buy the cryptocurrency Etherium for $11, it rapidly went up to $43 (I bought in between those prices) and has now currently gone to over $335 as of June 2017. Those kinds of gains are nearly unbelievable to a traditional investor and yet these are across the board in this space. So you made a ton of money on cryptocurrencies and have some concerns about shuffling it through your bank because of potential capital gains tax issues. There are places who have a solution for you if you want to be able to use this money for other investments. These places wont make you photograph your license and send it in, just use an email and they provide you with a BTC deposit wallet, demo accounts, APIs, then when you are ready, you send money in and its go time, you can trade everything from treasury bonds to Forex using Cryptocurrencies as your base monetary instrument. But, you say, I am a coder who likes to automate things, surely we can fire up some BTCbot and we can have it just do the work for us, it will make us millions in our sleep, right? I dont want to write a bot and publish it with a single strategy and just say here, use this, I dont think that is helpful to anyone, I would rather give you the tools and show you how to write strategies yourself, show you how to set up data collection for the strategies and how to implement them in a trading system an Continue reading >>

Predicting Cryptocurrency Prices With Deep Learning

Predicting Cryptocurrency Prices With Deep Learning

Predicting Cryptocurrency Prices With Deep Learning This post brings together cryptos and deep learning in a desperate attempt for Reddit popularity. Not a Lambo, its actually a Cadillac. That might not even be Earths moon either. Data scientist interested in sports, politics and Simpsons references If you were to pick the three most ridiculous fads of 2017, they would definitely be fidget spinners (are they still cool? Do kids still use that word cool?), artificial intelligence and, yes, cryptocurrencies. Joking aside, Im actually impressed by the underlying concept and Im quite bullish on the long term prospects of this disruptive technology. But enough about fidget spinners!!! Im actually not a hodler of any cryptos. So, while I may not have a ticket to the moon, I can at least get on board the hype train by successfully predicting the price of cryptos by harnessing deep learning, machine learning and artificial intelligence (yes, all of them!). I thought this was a completely unique concept to combine deep learning and cryptos (blog-wise at least), but in researching this post (i.e. looking for code to copy+paste), I came across something quite similar . That post only touched on Bitcoin (the most famous crypto of them all), but Ill also discuss Ethereum (commonly known as ether, eth or lambo-money). And since Ether is clearly superior to Bitcoin ( have you not heard of Metropolis? ), this post will definitely be better than that other one. Were going to employ a Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) model; its a particular type of deep learning model that is well suited to time series data (or any data with temporal/spatial/structural order e.g. movies, sentences, etc.). If you wish to truly understand the underlying theory (what kind of crypto enthusiast are you?), then Continue reading >>

I Used A Free Cryptocurrency Trading Bot And All I Did Was Lose Money

I Used A Free Cryptocurrency Trading Bot And All I Did Was Lose Money

I Used a Free Cryptocurrency Trading Bot and All I Did Was Lose Money I Used a Free Cryptocurrency Trading Bot and All I Did Was Lose Money When I look at order books on any exchange, its evident that theyre all being manipulated by bots. The moment I put a sell order, a bot places his 20 BTC sell wall one satoshi above mine. Thats the sad, sombre story of exchange trading; if youre looking to make a few quick trades to play the swings, the bots will eat you alive. So I looked around and found Youtube channels, Steem threads and reddit posts all shilling their various paid bots. Those were priced anywhere from $20 to $400, and with the constant use my referral code for a 0.0001% discount type shilling, I was instantly wary. I looked at Github and tried to find an open source alternative. Some background about me I run this website on my own web server, so Im familiar with VMs and VPSs. Over the years Ive cycled through Digital Ocean, Vultr, Linode and AWS and at any given point Im running a bunch of websites on each of these platforms. Im pretty comfortable with spinning up a $2.5 per month Vultr instance to test out a bot. I dont really know any coding though, so I wouldnt be able to alter any scripts I find or code my own models. So my only option is to find a crypto trading bot thats readily available and get it working. Setting up the bot wasnt too hard. I literally had to spin up a VPS, clone the github repository and install some python libraries. Get the API keys from the exchange I use, Binance , and add them to the bot. Basic instructions that are already detailed on the installation page, so anyone can do it. What this particular bot did was identify the selling price of a particular cryptocurrency on Binance. Lets say its Bitcoin with a trading pair of Tethe Continue reading >>

Getting Started With Algorithmic Crypto Trading In no way am I a financial advisor or an expert in this field.
