Guide To Buying Ethereum Incanada

Guide To Buying Ethereum Incanada

An overview of exchanges, wallets, and which are best for Canadians you have a basic understanding of cryptocurrency and Ethereum This guide will best suit those who are excited about the prospect of owning Ethereum (ETH) and want to become involved in the cryptocurrency community by buying a relatively low amount and holding it for the long term. My goal was to buy approximately 1 ETH for around $400 CAD and hold it until 2020 after it has increased 5000%. Okay, that is a very generous prediction but you can read more about it here: 6/13/17 Edit: updated with feedback from a few Redditorsmedium.com Im not looking to day trade Ethereum or even make purchases with it at this time; I simply want to hold it, continue learning, and feel actively involved as I watch the cryptocurrency market. I will review a few of the popular coin exchanges available to Canadians, looking at their fees, limits, and advantages. I will also go through a handful of Ethereum Wallet options and of course share which exchange & wallet combination I ended up choosing. Verification: Fast. You first verify two pending credits they put on your credit card and then confirm your identity with uploads of an ID and utility bill. Fees: 3.99% for funding your account using a credit or debit card. This is the only funding option for Canadians. Limits: $250 per week. The limit increases after buying $500 of digital currency. Coinbase is the largest of the exchanges I looked into to with over 7 million users. The look and feel of both its web and mobile platform is modern, easy to navigate, and informational. They are also really great about publishing educational blogs on cryptocurrency ( check out their beginners guide to Ethereum ). The following is my referral link for Coinbase: Verfication: Not slow, bu Continue reading >>

Buying Ether In Canada, My Experience With Different Exchanges : Ethtrader

If you just want the gist of it, a super-quick summary of what I found: Coinbase: great if you just want to try things out. Fast to get ether, fast to verify, high fees. QuadrigaCX: great if you're looking to get more seriously into cryptocurrency. Most deposit options, lower fees. Kraken: great if you have a ton of money you want to transfer into cryptocurrency or if you want to play around with trading. Low fees, slow CAD deposit because wire transfer. Coinsquare: Fees aren't bad, low volume though. With every one of these sites, there's usually some form of verification. This involves taking a picture of some piece of government ID (usually passport or drivers license), as well as some sort of proof of address such as a utlity bill. Some sites require you to take a selfie with some of that documentation or holding a handwritten sign. It seemed sketchy to me at first, but every place does it. This was the first place I tried. Their only payment methods I could find are Visa and MasterCard, of which they charge a 3.75% convenience. With reward cards you might get 1%-2% back, but this is a fairly high fee. The bright side is it's just about instantaneous. One thing I noticed is that their sell price is about ~$5 higher than a few exchanges. For example, as I write this, it's $119.23 on coinbase. On kraken it's 113.99 for a market order. There is a weekly $200 limit on the amount to buy. A 30 day countdown started after I spent $500 to increase the limit. I can't find what the new limit amount will be once that countdown reaches 0 though. So far, I've been with them for over a month and I've bought $600 worth of ether. The first time I bought it only took a minute to get sent to my private address. The second time it took ~40 minutes for it to actually get sent to my pr Continue reading >>

Buying Ethereum: How I Started Investing In Cryptocurrency

Buying Ethereum: How I Started Investing In Cryptocurrency Once you start getting a revenue from your niche websites, how do you spend it? Maybe, paying off a mortgageorsaving up for a vacation? Investing? Living from it? For example, Ilya from OnlineMoneyz decided to use his online income to pay for the college . I think this is a great idea and a greatgoal! Me, on the other hand, I prefer to put the money back into thebusiness or to invest. Eventually, I do plan to live off my cloud income (this is my ultimate goal) but for now, my day job pays all my bills so my online income is sparemoney for me. Usually, I invest into Kickfurther,an online platform for crowdfunding inventory as well as in regular stuff like stocks. But the investment I did this time was not a usual one. It was neither Kickfurther nor mutual funds nor bonds. I decided to go a special route: Investing in cryptocurrency. More specifically, in Ethereum. Here is a good article explaining what happened (and what Ethereum is) by uk.businessinsider.com. In short, Ethereum is not just a cryptocurrency. It is a whole platform that allows writing programs that execute some automated actions. An auction might automatically transfer deeds of ownership to the highest bidder after a certain time has elapsed, or fathers contract might automatically send his son a set amount of money every year on his birthday, thats howuk.businessinsider.com explains it. And since these are programs, they may and do have bugs. And of course, some hacker found a vulnerability in one of the programs (or contracts as they are called in the Ethereum world) and stole almost$50 million dollars worth of ether, the platform currency. The money was stolen from a particularorganization built on top of the platform. It is called the DAO,Dece Continue reading >>

A Made-in-canada Cryptocurrency Called Ethereum Is Building On The Bitcoin Revolution

A made-in-Canada cryptocurrency called ethereum is building on the bitcoin revolution We're experimenting with a new look. Learn more . A made-in-Canada cryptocurrency called ethereum is building on the bitcoin revolution In the increasingly valuable world of cryptocurrencies, bitcoin is still king. But Alex Tapscott, CEO of NextBlock Global, says a Canadian upstart called ethereum is worth watching too. Ether, like bitcoin, has seen a dramatic increase in value over the last year. Imagine what the internet did for communication and the exchange of information. Now picture that kind of sweeping change to the world of money; that sort of ease and transparency applied to banking, stock markets and the ability of companies to raise money. As Alex Tapscott tells Day 6 guest host Peter Armstrong , we are moving on from the internet of information and beginning the age of the "internet of value." The value of the stock market is $80 trillion so we're tackling pretty big markets here. Tapscottis the chief executive officer of NextBlockGlobal , a Toronto-based digital currency investment firm. Don and Alex Tapscott's book, Blockchain Revolution, argues the technology underlying Bitcoin will revolutionize almost every facet of online activity. (Alex and Don Tapscott) "Blockchain represents the second generation of the internet," he says, referring to the technology that allows people to send and receive money through the internet without using a bank. Tapscottalso co-wrote BlockchainRevolution: How the Technology BehindBitcoinis Changing Money, Business and The World with his father DonTapscott . "Blockchain allows us to change the way we move, store and manage assets in the economy ... we're talking about industries that are a lot bigger than Blockbuster ... we're talking abou Continue reading >>

Buy Bitcoin/ethereum In Canada - Coinbase

Coinbase, headquartered in San Francisco, has become one of the most prominent businesses, allowing people to buy and store bitcoins and developing deals with merchants to help them carry out bitcoin transactions. One of the first steps, however, is getting Bitcoin into the hands of more people, and companies like Coinbase along with other exchanges that accept multiple currencies are playing a big role in expanding the virtual currencys network. Coinbase has done a good job of simplifying bitcoin use. To pay for sushi at a local shop, I used the Coinbase app on my Android phone to scan the QR code presented by my server. Continue reading >>

How To Buy And Cash Out Ether Within Canada

How To Buy And Cash Out Ether Within Canada

How to Buy and Cash out Ether within Canada Many people, mainly new investors are still wondering how to buy and cash out Ether within Canada. They are intrigued by the idea of purchasing Ether but are confused by the process but still would like to start investing in it. How does one go about buying Ether and then what do you do with it once you have it? Buying Ether is actually relatively easily from a Canadian Bank account or even a Canadian credit card and there are many Canadian based exchanges that you can choose from. Once you decide on the right exchange for you, you will need to create an account and from there you will be taken through a simple process similar to creating any profile with an online retailer with one exception, you will need to verify through a credit reporting bureau for an additional identification method. When this has been successfully completed, you will be able to link a bank card or credit card and buy Ether. Once you have made your purchase it will be added to your online wallet that was created when you made your exchange account. At this point in the verification stage, your purchase limit will be quite low at under $500 per week. This amount can vary depending on which exchange you choose. In order to raise these limits, you will have to take additional steps to verify your identity. This typically can be done by sending copies of you Government issued ID to the exchange or, you may have to send a picture of your person holding your ID. Personally, I prefer the exchanges, Coinbase , QuadrigaCX but Coinsquare is another good option so I have included it in this list of my recommended exchanges. This is a very simple to use exchange. I setup a Coinbase account and bought one of their 4 coin options in no time at all. The interface is Continue reading >>

Canadian Securities Exchange Reveals Plans For Ethereum-based Fundraising Platform

Canadian Securities Exchange Reveals Plans For Ethereum-based Fundraising Platform

Canadian Securities Exchange Reveals Plans For Ethereum-Based Fundraising Platform A stock exchange in Canada has announced its intention to host an Ethereum blockchain platform on which companies can hold ICO-like fundraising events. In a February 13 press release , the Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE), a stock exchange located in Toronto, revealed plans to introduce an Ethereum-based "securities clearing and settlement platform" through which approved companies can conduct "security token offerings", or "STOs." According to the exchange , these STOs differ from ICOs in that "an issuer seeking to raise capital with an STO must meet the requirements of both provincial regulators as well as the CSE," and will face ongoing oversight by the exchange and regulators. The tokens on the digital clearinghouse will be backed by both equity and debt securities, and trades on the platform are expected to clear and settle instantaneously, in contrast to the two business days that it currently takes to settle their traditional counterparts. The CSE projects that the system will offer a number of other benefits as well, including "cost savings and error reductions associated with processing corporate actions," like splits, and "savings achieved by eliminating the need for investment dealers to post initial and mark-to-market capital with a clearing house pending the settlement of trades." An exact launch date has not been set, as the CSE has not yet completed the "regulatory process for the establishment" of the platform. The press release states that the exchange "intends to file an application to seek approval from Canadian regulators to recognize the new clearing house." All the same, the CSE has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the private blockchain firm Kabu Continue reading >>

Canadian Tsx Venture Exchange Approves Crypto-mining Company Hashchain To Launch Monday

Canadian Tsx Venture Exchange Approves Crypto-mining Company Hashchain To Launch Monday

On December 18, 2017, HashChain Technology , a cryptocurrency mining company, went public for the first time on the TSX Venture Exchange under the ticker symbol KASH, joining at least eight other crypto-related startups including HIVE Blockchain Technologies (Genesis Mining). At least 50 more blockchain and cryptocurrencies firms are preparing to list on the TSX in the coming year, including Hut 8 Mining Corp., according to Harris Fricker, CEO of GMP Capital Inc., noting that the TSX Venture Exchange tends to be less risk-averse than many other stock exchanges around the world. In the past, the TSX Venture Exchange has been mainly for smaller companies trading oil and gas, traditional mining and, recently, medical marijuana futures according to Fricker. He says that at least eight cryptocurrency-related stocks are now trading in Canada. HashChain stock started trading today at $2.20 CDN a share. The company has already raised $4.4 million with 41,179,000 common shares both issued and outstanding, in preparation for todays launch on the TSX. HashChain says it will initially mine the altcoin Dash but will go on to mine bitcoin in January 2018. After that they say they will be supporting highly scalable and flexible operations across all major cryptocurrencies. The company is counting on their Canadian location to give them an edge: Our ideal location for mining will maximize revenue on each coin, and our proprietary approach to operations can sustain rapid growth and scalability. HashChain CEO Patrick Gray told Bitcoin Magazine in an interview that although their office is in New York, mining operations will be run out of Vancouver, Canada. We have our mining operation in Vancouver because it's the optimal location to reduce the costs of large-scale mining. Canada has ch Continue reading >>

Canadian Stock Exchange Launches Fully-regulated Token Funding Platform, Unlike Icos

Canadian Stock Exchange Launches Fully-regulated Token Funding Platform, Unlike Icos

Canadian Stock Exchange Launches Fully-Regulated Token Funding Platform, Unlike ICOs The Canadian Securities Exchange will soon launch a platform for trading in Ethereum-based Security Token Offerings (STOs), as an alternative to ICOs. The Canadian Securities Exchange (CSE) announced yesterday , Feb.13, that they will soon launch a securities clearing and settlement platform based on the Ethereum (ETH) Blockchain that lets companies raise capital with security tokens. According to the CSE announcement, companies using the Blockchain-based platform can issue Security Token Offerings (STO) to investors as a means to raise capital. Those issuing tokens via the CSE platform will be subject to full regulation by applicable securities commissions. The CSE positions their STOs to companies as an alternative to running an Initial Coin Offering (ICO), which the exchange misleadingly calls unregulated. The press release notes that the platform will benefit both large, established companies, as well as, start-up entrepreneurs seeking to access the public capital markets for the first time. In conjunction with the new platform announcement, CSE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Kabuni Technologies , a Blockchain-based manufacturing platform that tracks 3D printed products, to be the first to issue STOs. Kabuni must first file a prospectus with the British Columbia Securities Commission (BSCE), and if approved, Kabunis issuing of an STO would mark the first time a tokenized security has been listed for trading on a recognized securities exchange. In the US, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman Jay Clayton repeated last week in a Senate hearing that every ICO token that the SEC has seen is a security and thus must be registered with the SEC if it is to b Continue reading >>
