You can also mine Ethereum Classic (ETC) if you start your geth in Step 7with the param --oppose-dao-fork. Read this ifyou want to understand what Ethereum Classic is . Running a CPU you might be able to generate 0.15 Mega Hashes whilst with a decent GPU with enough memory you could be doing upwards 25 Mega Hashes ( you can choose a GPU to mine ether here and use our guide on how to choose a GPUto mine ether ). So in terms of total efficiency, taking into account electrical costs, a GPU is definitely worth it even if it costs you $200. You can also try buying a cloud mining contract with Hashflare or Genesis Mining . Part 1 - Installing GETH, Syncing the Blockchain & creating your own address! Step 1: The first thing you need to do is go to this link download Geth . Geth is the program that communicates with the Ethereum Network and acts as the a relay between your computer, its hardware and the rest of the ethereum network computers so if a block is mined by another computer your Geth program will pick it up and then pass on the new information onto your GPU or CPU for mining. Step 2: You need to unzip the GETH file and move it to a location on your hard drive. In this case we'll move it to the hard drive, usually (C:) - which will make the next step easier. All you need to do is copy the file you have downloaded and unzipped and move it to the hard drive folder. Step 3:Now you need to run the program you just downloaded. To do this you need to run Command Prompt. You can do this by searching in the search function in Windows for "CMD" and then clicking on it when it shows up. Step 4: Command Prompt is now open - and can look terrifying to people who aren't familiar with it. Hoover up some Ether using your home computer The cryptocurrency revolution is largely down to enthusiastic 'miners', who build or use their own machines to perform the complex proof of work algorithms to process data blocks, creating more of their chosen currency such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Specialized mining equipment is available online and you can even rent processing power from companies such as Genesis Mining (weve got a guide on how to do this here ). However, if your home computer is powerful enough there's no reason you can't get started mining Ethereum today. In this guide, you'll learn how to use the friendly MinerGate client. This handy program quickly and easily connects you to MinerGate's mining pool from where you can share some of your machines resources, and then subsequently share in the rewards of generating Ether. Before you begin, remember that the actual amount of hard cash you'll make from doing this will vary depending on the mining difficulty, the fluctuating price of Ether and how powerful your hardware is. MinerGate has a built-in benchmarking tool to give you a rough idea how much you stand to make per year, although this doesn't take into account the electricity used by your machine. Open your browser and navigate to . Click on the button marked Download Miner & Start Mining. If you're using Microsoft Edge, you can click Run to launch the installer at this stage. Windows 10 will ask you to confirm that you wish to allow MinerGate to make changes to your system. Click Yes. Setup will now launch. Close down any other open apps and agree to the license agreement. On the next screen (Install Options), select Add MinerGate to the system PATH for current user as well as Create MinerGate Desktop Icon. Click Next, then Install. Phoenixminer 2.9e: Fastest Ethereum/ethash Miner With Lowest Devfee (windows)

PhoenixMiner 2.9e: fastest Ethereum/Ethash miner with lowest devfee (Windows) Substantial improvements in the kernels for AMD GPUs, providing higher hashrate, lower percentage of stale shares, and slightly lower power consumption. The new kernels are used by default for AMD GPUs. You can still revert to using the old kernels with -clnew 0 Note that the optimal -gt values for the new AMD kernels may be different than before (but should be in the same ballpark) Added alternative (-clkernel 2) kernels for AMD RX550, RX460/560, and 285/380. Just like the alternative kernels for Polaris (RX470/480/570/580), sometimes these can give you higher hashrate than then default (-clkernel 1) kernels. Added optimized kernels for AMD RX550, based on the Baffin kernels (but we can't test them as our RX550 turned out to use Baffin cores, so please let us know if they work for you) New Nvidia kernels, providing higher hashrate and much lower percentage of stale shares. You can still revert to using the old CUDA kernels with -nvnew 0. The mining intensity (-mi) is by default 12 when using the new Nvidia kernels and 10 for the old kernels New -clf parameter to control how often the OpenCL (AMD) kernels will sync (0 - never, 1 - sometimes (default), 2 - always). Try this if you have unstable hashrate on AMD GPU but in general, it is best to leave it alone New -nvf parameter to control Nvidia kernel sync frequency (it is similar to the -clf parameter for AMD cards). Try -nvf 2 if you have permanent hashrate drops after pausing and resuming mining on Nvidia cards Added -logfile parameter to be able to set the name of the logfile. If you place an asterisk (*) in the logfile name, it will be replaced by the current date/time to create a unique name every time PhoenixMiner is started. If there i Continue reading >>

Tags: Mining , Ethereum , Crypto Currency , GPU The value of dedicated GPU is going beyond the needs of gaming, it is proven to fulfill the professional needs for Deep Learning researches. As it turns out the modern graphics cards are very good at achieving the framerate requirements for virtual-reality. To our biggest surprise, GPU is profitable at mining crypto-currency again, such as Ethereum, so we can profit from our current hardware setup. This article will run through the basic mining knowledge, and guides how to setup a Windows 10s machine with a GPU to do Ethereum mining. A few years ago, after reading the paper by pseudonym author Satoshi Nakamoto on Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System describing a distributed trust solution to the open network, the sense of computational beauty about its concepts and solutions propelled my interest to try out Bitcoin mining. The value of Bitcoin is approximately $120 USD at 2013, which is impressive for its growth from zero value within a short few years of Bitcoin invention. To reduce the risk of the adventure, like everyone at that time, we started out by utilizing the gaming GPU to reach a profitable hashrate (to be explained later). The profitability is measured by how much coin value that you generated against how much electricity that you paid. If the coin value is higher then the cost of electricity, you are in a profitable mining business, excluding the initial equipment cost. The original Bitcoin hashing algorithm (SHA256), performing a complex but fixed sequence of operation can be replaced by ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) dedicated hardware. The computation speed and power efficiency of ASIC essentially killed the profitability of using GPU based mining quickly. In order to stay in the Bit Continue reading >>

Ethereum Mining On Windows 7

Ethereum Mining On Windows 7

Introduction: Ethereum Mining on Windows 7 Before we start this guide I want to address a few important things: Mining cryptocurrency is not free money. You are trading your mining hardware's hashing for some currency and contributing to the network. It is also highly speculative and the exchange rates are volatile. You could achieve a return on investment in 90 days, a year, or never. Being smart with your purchases and not blindly purchasing "good mining cards" is the biggest protective measure. Personally, I mine because I like the idea of decentralized currency and being involved in such a big financial revolution. Also, I think it's fun. If I make money that's nice too. There is a decent amount of math, risk, and trial/error involved in optimizing your setup to get every last hash out of your graphics cards, but this guide is a basic setup for mining with Windows 7, not a performance-maximizing guide. If you want to get serious with mining I strongly recommend using Linux as it isn't plagued with driver issues, mines more stable, is more flexible for your setups, and (for some cards like the GTX 1070) gets a drastically better hash rate. Also if you plan on having more than 4 cards per motherboard Linux is a much better choice, as Windows starts to have issues with PCIe slot order and other shenanigans that go down you definitely don't want to deal with. There is even a distribution of Linux specifically for mining (though it isn't free) that is very easy to set up called EthOS. That fact that this guide uses Windows for mining indicates that it is a quick dive into mining without all the mess of optimizing and customization that many of the tools used have to offer, so while it might not be the most comprehensive guide, it will quickly get you a foundation to bui Continue reading >>

Build Your Own Ethereum Mining Rig, Part 3: Windows Setup

April 11, 2017 CryptoBadger 272 Comments No doubt some of you saw the Ethereum mining guide for Linux that I published last week and balked at all of that command-line nonsense.Linux isnt everyones thing, and thats okif Windows is your OS of choice, then this guide is for you! While Linux offers some significantadvantages when it comes to GPU mining, Windows does have onepotentially important edge: undervolting your GPUs currently requires quite a bit less effort underWindows. If you want your mining rig to run at its maximum efficiency, youll want tokeep power consumption to a minimum, and with Linux that generally requires flashing a custom BIOS to each GPUwhereas in Windows you can usually accomplish this at the driver level with a simple software setting. The bad news is that if you want maximum performance out of your rig, youll probably eventually want to flash your GPU BIOS under either operating system, but well get into that in part 4 of this guide. But if you already know that overwriting your GPU BIOS with a custom replacement is outside of your comfort zone, then sticking with Windows will at least allow you to undervolt. So with all of that in mind, if Windows sounds like the best optionfor you, read on for our setup guide! Build an EthereumMining Rig, part 3: Windows Setup I wont go into quite the same excruciating levelof detail as I did with my Linux guide , as its probably a safe assumption that anyone reading a guide about building a custom cryptocurrency mining rig is already quite comfortable with basic Windows tasks. The steps outlined below should be more than adequate for the average Windows user, but feel free to leave comments if anything is unclear! Before we even get to Windows, make sure your mining computers BIOS settings are in order. Powe Continue reading >>

Mining!! 1) Download your Ethereum wallet here first: 2) open your ethereum wallet and let the block chain synchronize. The block chain is about 10 GB, so it's going to take a few good hours to synchronize. There are several ways to synchronize the block chain. You can sync it through geth as well with geth --rpc, but this does the EXACT same thing! Once your block chain is synchronized, Ethereum wallet will open up! TADA! You're now synced and up to date. Open your wallet and you'll be asked for a master password. DO NOT EVER FORGET THIS PASSWORD Store this guy special. Somewhere no one can find it except you! To back up your wallet for Ethereum. First show hidden files in your system. If you don't nkow how to, go to your desktop, press F1, and type in "show hidden." A window will open with diffent options that can let you option the mentu to show hidden files. Go to your c:/users/username/appdata/roaming/ethereum/ you will see a folder there called "keystore." Back up that folder by zipping it and putting it somewhere safe. If you ever needed to reinstall your wallet, do so then put this keystore folder EXACTLY where it was before. Start up your Ethereum and it'll ask for the password that you originally saved with that address. Unzip it any directory you want. Let's just call it c:/mining Open up a notepad and write this exactly in it: Save it as whatever you want.bat. So for example, save it as geth --rpc.bat IN THE SAME FOLDER AS WHERE YOUR GETH IS, so c:/mining Open up a notepad and write this EXACTLY in it: e Continue reading >>
