Are there other Vanity Address generators available? Which is the fastest? Can they be optimized further? What is the use-case of vanity addresses compared to normal addresses? Your question is more an answer :) Maybe rephrase the question and consider adding also an own answer to this thread... Rando Feb 6 '16 at 13:44 I didn't want to answer my own question, and maybe accept it, that is a bit lame, isn't it? makevoid Feb 6 '16 at 15:21 It is okay to answer your own question . It is even encouraged. Even now you could answer it. Wait with accepting for some more days, maybe more answers will follow. Rando Feb 6 '16 at 21:58 To me, doing that, it looks a bit like reputation-farming, especially if you create the question and answer straight away. Also I don't know how to optimize a vanity address generator (I guess something can be done to the hash function to narrow it after each run but I don't know exactly what/how) and I would like to know the answer :). But if nobody puts another answer I'll try to, thanks. makevoid Feb 6 '16 at 22:26 Reputation farmin is perfectly fine as long as you generate high quality content. You should always check that you can use your newly generated addresses before sending any significant amount of ethers to these addresses. You could send a small amount of ethers to your newly generated address, then move a small portion of these ethers from your newly generated address to another address. You could cross-check your generated address against an air-gapped (if you are paranoid) installation of . @tayvano is one of the authors. Accepting Ethereum Payments Without External Services

Accepting Ethereum Payments Without External Services

Accepting Ethereum payments without external services You don't need to pay for merchant systems Posted by Christian Haschek on 2017-06-09 When I first thought about implementing payment via a crypto currency I looked at the available solutions like Stripe . The problem I had with stripe was that they allow Bitcoin payments only with US merchant accounts so this was no option for me. In the Ethereum world it looks even worse. There are a few newer services but of course they all want their share of the cake. Building an Ethereum payment system from scratch At least one Parity node in your private network with RPC enabled A vanity address generator on the webserver like vanity-eth Calculate the price in ETH using the current price from the coinbase or kraken API Generate an address pair with the vanity generator and encrypt or move the private key to another server Display the generated address to the customer and check the address every few seconds if a payment has been received We'll use the vanity-eth from nodejs for generating the addresses. You also need some Etherum nodes. I'm using Parity since it's fast and reliable. Start it with these parameters, but don't expose the nodes directly to the internet, keep them behind firewalls without port forwarding. parity --jsonrpc-interface 0.0.0.0 --jsonrpc-hosts="all" --auto-update=all --jsonrpc-cors null For even faster deployment you can use the Parity Docker container. You can also save the data so you won't have to re-sync every time you remake the container. First create a folder named "libs" and clone the php-ethereum repo into it. The ethereum-php project is a nice wrapper for the json-rpc class. Then use the following class and save it as ethpay.php. This is the main logic of the payment processing. You can use it Continue reading >>

How To Create A Custom Vanity Eth Address For Free Dec 2017 Vanity Mining Guide

How to create a custom Vanity ETH address for FREE Dec 2017 vanity mining Guide Usually, your Ethereum Address is generated by your wallet. This randomly generated Address will look something like this: 0xcf113456a4b95327ddc55d0a0e127b1febc1e86c Quite boring huh? Thank god a Vanitygenerator for Ethereum exists! Using this specialized tool, you can customize the first few characters of your Address. Here are some examples: 0x0000012aaa1915552fa84992123c9948cc19f4b6 Lets get started on how you can quickly create your own ETH vanity address. To run the desired tool, you first need to install Node.js and Node Package manager. If you are a developer, chances are you already have those. Open up Node.js console and type the following: $ npm install -g vanity-eth$ vanityeth -i b00b5 Step 3: Create a custom ETH Address using vanity-eth Remember you can use any Hexadecimal Characters: 0-9, a-f & A-F Generate 10 addresses starting with 0x0000: You can also add more or fewer characters it will take exponentially longer the more characters you add. So while -i b00b5 might only take an hour to complete, -i b000b5 could take a whole day! Tipp: To get your desired Address you can let it run overnight and store its outputs to a file by appendingthe command with -l like this: If no path is defined the text file will be generated at:C:\Users\YourUser\VanityEth-log.txt using the above i was able to get lucky and find:0x0000012aaa1915552fa84992123c9948cc19f4b6 even though i only entered four 0s as filter. Step 4: Import Address to test it out or Cold store it. Addresses generated by VanityEthare compatible with any ETH Wallets that allow for importing plain private keys. Continue reading >>

Registration on or use of this site constitutes acceptance of our Ever heard of Ethereum? It's Bitcoin's experimental younger brother, and its community has just been shaken by a massive hack that stole more than $50 million from one of the biggest organisations in the community , The DAO. Here's what you need to know. In plain English, that means it's a digital currency that doesn't have any single central bank. Instead, its users collectively contribute computing power towards maintaining the network like Bitcoin. Ethereum differs from bitcoin in that it can run smart contracts contracts that execute themselves entirely autonomously when certain conditions are met. An auction might automatically transfer deeds of ownership to the highest bidder after a certain time has elapsed, or father's contract might automatically send his son a set amount of money every year on his birthday. While it's not on the same scale as Bitcoin, it's still pretty huge. It has ballooned in value over the last year, with a market cap of $1.4 billion, and one Ether (or ETH, a unit of the digital currency) is currently worth $16.76. Move over Marc, there is a new generation of investors. Michael Kovac/Getty Images for Vanity Fair DAO stands for Decentralised Autonomous Organisation, something anyone can build on top of Ethereum's platforms. They're organisations that operate according to predefined rules, and don't have a board of directors or leadership in the traditional sense. In this context, we're talking about The DAO a hugely successful organisation that manages its investors' capital. It has had huge amounts of money pumped into it by 11,000 people in the Ethereum comm Continue reading >>

Visual Guide to Buying A Vanity Ethereum Addresses with ENS andMyCrypto Nothing says Im serious about Ethereum like your name on the blockchain If youre like me, you might have a handful of Ethereum addresses that you use quite often. Also, if you are like me, you might be a cartoon giraffe. If so, please reach out we should hang. Anyway, it can be tedious, boring, and error prone to copy and paste the same old 0xaBc123 style address over and over. Or, heaven forbid, you may need to manually type an address (protip: never type an ethereum address). Wouldnt it be nice to have a pretty, human (giraffe) readable name for your Ether account? Well, thats entirely possible with the Ethereum Name System (ENS). It works similarly to DNS where a domain name (e.g. hambutton.com ) maps to an IP address (34.193.187.110). Instead, though, we give an Ethereum address a domain name ending in.eth (e.g. edwardgiraffe.eth). The process for buying an internet domain is pretty simple find an unused name, go to a registrar, click buy. Not so with ENS. In order to prevent a rush of domain squatters from scooping up all the good domains, an auction format was instituted. The basics of an ENS auction goes something like this: Signal your intent to buy a name buy placing a bid. Since this is Ethereum were talking about, this whole process takes place on the public blockchain. For a more technical explanation, check out this nifty visual timeline Still wondering how the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) bid process works? This visual timeline shows you each step of themedium.com Before getting started, youll need a bit of Ether, and an Ether wallet like a Ledger Nano, MetaMask, or MyCrypto (previously known as MyEtherWallet). Ill be using MetaMask in this article because they have the coolest logo of Continue reading >>

Tony Robbins, Mark Cuban: You Need This Mindset To Invest In Bitcoin

Tony Robbins, Mark Cuban: You Need This Mindset To Invest In Bitcoin

Digital currency bitcoin is up six times in value for the year, and smashed through records this month . Friday, it hit a new high of $6,000 . And, 49 percent of people surveyed by CNBC think it could go even higher, responding that the currency is on the way to hitting $10,000. If you feel like you're missing out and wondering whether to invest, Mark Cuban and Tony Robbins have some advice: Only invest money you aren't afraid to lose. "If you're a true adventurer and you really want to throw the Hail Mary, you might take 10 percent [of your savings] and put it in bitcoin or ethereum ," Cuban tells Vanity Fair . "But, if you do that, you've got to pretend you've already lost your money." In addition to sharp gains, bitcoin is also prone to big drops. It lost about $500 in one day earlier this week after indications of greater U.S. regulation, and briefly lost $2,000 in September after China cracked down on digital currencies. The volatility is one reason why critics are skeptical of the crypto-currency. So Cuban and Robbins say you need to go into it with the mindset that while you hope you could win big, you know you could lose it all. "I think [bitcoin] is very iffy," Robbins tells CNBC . "I look at that as it's like going to Vegas." As with gambling, you should only bet discretionary funds, he says. Then a win is a big bonus and a loss won't hurt you financially. When looking at volatile investments like bitcoin, Robbins uses that mentality himself. He explains his thinking is, "I know it is just for fun I'm investing, I know I could lose, this is Vegas." Cuban says, "It is like collecting art, like collecting baseball cards, like collecting shoes something is worth what somebody else will pay for it. It is a flier, but I would limit it to 10 percent." Cuban and Rob Continue reading >>

Is Bitcoins Black Tuesday Just Another Reason To Buy?

Is Bitcoins Black Tuesday Just Another Reason To Buy?

Is Bitcoins Black Tuesday Just Another Reason to Buy? Is Bitcoins Black Tuesday Just Another Reason to Buy? If you follow the logic of the bitcoin universe, almost every crash is. As briefly-anointed billionaires Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss can attest , 2017 was a banner year for bitcoin. The flagship cryptocurrency was valued at around $1,000 last January; by the end of the year, it had skyrocketed to more than $20,000, bringing other major cryptocurrencies like ethereum and Ripple along with it. As financial bubbles go, only the infamous Dutch tulip craze of the 1630s comes close . Yet after months of gains, the hyper-volatile cryptocurrency market took a major tumble on Tuesday, dropping to its lowest level since early December (bitcoin fell to less than $10,000, by one estimate) and erasing months of added value in just a few hours. (As of Wednesday morning, bitcoin had recovered slightly, once again hovering at around $10,000, leaving the Winklevii about $443 million poorer , each.) The proximate cause for the crash was news that certain countries will begin to tighten regulation around cryptocurrencies. Pan Gongsheng, a senior Chinese central banker, reportedly wrote in an internal memo last week that China should ban centralized trading of virtual currencies as well as individuals and businesses that provide related services. South Korea, which is among cryptos largest markets, is expected to decide whether to propose a bill to ban cryptocurrency exchanges ; the countrys finance minister, Kim Dong-yeon, said in a radio interview that a total shutdown of cryptocurrency exchanges is still possible. In the United States, BitConnect announced that it would be closing its exchange and lending operation after receiving cease-and-desist letters from securities officia Continue reading >>

Ethereum Name Service Invites Community To Generate Its Vanity Address

Ethereum Name Service Invites Community To Generate Its Vanity Address

Ethereum Name Service Invites Community To Generate Its Vanity Address The Ethereum Name Service wants a community member to generate the vanity address for where the smart contract will live. Just days after his EDCON announcement that the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) would launch on the mainnet on March 14, Nick Johnson, who works for the Ethereum Foundation, published a blog post on Medium today. The recent post was titled: How you can help deploy ENS, and it was more than just a call to action. It was announcing the fact that you could be the lucky user who literally deploys ENS by helping to find a vanity address for the smart contract. The Ethereum Name Service is meant to act like a DNS, or domain name service. A DNS turns an IP address like 208.65.153.253 into something human-readable like YouTube.com. After ENS goes live, long, cryptographic addresses (like 0x32b724f073ec346edd64b0cc67757e4f6fe42950) will regularly be replaced by a simpler .eth designation. Since ENS will help do away with long addresses, the Ethereum Foundation thinks that it would be appropriate to host the ENS smart contract at a unique address. In his blog post, Johnson says: ENS aims to be a general purpose name registry for the Ethereum blockchain, and potentially for wider applications too. It aspires to be the last address you ever have to deal with, and as such, we figure it deserves a nice (vanity) address. In the world of blockchains, cryptographic addresses are a common sight. They are long, and generally look like a string of random numbers and letters. Theyre longer than IP addresses, and certainly look more daunting. So making them more human-readable is integral to increasing widespread adoption of Ethereum and blockchain technology. For an address to be valid, it must adhere to Continue reading >>

How To Get A Custom Bitcoin Address

How To Get A Custom Bitcoin Address

Last updated on March 19th, 2015 at 11:24 am Probably one of the most uncomfortable issues about Bitcoin is the fact that your Bitcoin address looks like you just made up a bunch of random numbers and characters. Luckily there are a few ways you can customize your Bitcoin address so it will look more appealing. None of the ways I will present in this post will be perfect but you can choose the one the suits you the most. Option #1 3rd party fully customized name Onename.io is a service that claims to be your digital passport around the web. By creating a simple username of Onename (for example mine is simply Ofir), you can have people send you Bitcoins to that username. Unfortunately this will only work with wallets thatare compatible with the Onename API and there arent many at the moment. This is the equivalent of having a username at Coinabse for example and then being restricted to using it only when someone sends you Bitcoins through Coinbase. So the pros are very obvious its easy to use and the name looks pretty. The cons are that you dont have fullcontrol over you private key (which is a big no no in the Bitcoin world) and that you are restricted to specific wallets that can send you money. Option #2 Use a vanity address generator A Vanity address is just a Bitcoin address that has some desirable pattern on characters so it looks a bit better.Youd usually only be able to customize just a small number of characters and not the whole address so you can insert your first name or a nickname. Here are some examples: You still have to follow the Bitcoin address limitation which means that your public address will start with 1 and creating these addresses takes some computing power (since you need to guess them, they are not just created). If you dont want to get into Continue reading >>

Put 10% Savings In Bitcoin, Mark Cuban Tells Vanity Fair Adventurers

Put 10% Savings In Bitcoin, Mark Cuban Tells Vanity Fair Adventurers

Put 10% Savings in Bitcoin, Mark Cuban Tells Vanity Fair Adventurers Mark Cuban suggests to Vanity Fair readers 10% Bitcoin, Ethereum holdings are suitable for true adventurers. Investor and entrepreneur Mark Cuban has upped his cryptocurrency advocacy, telling Vanity Fair readers to put 10 percent of their money into it. In a video guide on getting rich, Cuban produced nine tips on maximizing potential wealth long-term. Among them in fifth place was advice to invest up to 10 percent of savings in so-called high risk assets, specifically Bitcoin and Ethereum . If youre a true adventurer and you really want to throw the Hail Mary, you might take 10 percent and put it in Bitcoin or Ethereum, he said. But if you do that, youve got to pretend youve already lost your money. Cubans own perspective on Bitcoin has undergone a metamorphosis this year. Despite considering its price as a bubble, the billionaire subsequently invested in both an ICO and a dedicated cryptocurrency hedge fund . While some skepticism remains, Cubans 10 percent figure is still higher than that advised by fellow investor Fred Wilson, who last week suggested a maximum of three to five percent crypto holdings for the average investor. I think thats likely at the high end of what the average person should have, but I also think its not a ridiculous number for the average person to have, he said discussing the topic. Many endowments, pension funds, etc allocate three to five percent of their portfolio to venture capital. They know (its) a risky asset but it has the potential for outsized returns. Ethereum Name Serviceupdates

Ethereum Name Serviceupdates

A review of ENS project progress fromDevcon3 Three of the district0x team members took a trip down to beautiful Cancn, Mexico for Devcon3. We enjoyed many presentations from the various contributors across the ecosystem, and even moreso enjoyed the networking opportunities to interface and coordinate with other teams in the space. Some of the most exciting takeaways (not only for us, but for most of the people we talked to) came from Nick Johnsons presentation on the Ethereum Name Service . Given our recent launch of the Name Bazaar , a secondary market for the trade of ENS domains, weve seen a lot of interest from our community on how these changes will effect our efforts as well as the ENS domain ecosystem as a whole. Below well summarize some of the announced changes and how they might play out in the future. You can find Nicks original presentation on YouTube (starts at 4:05:30) and can access the slides used therein here . One of the stated goals from the ENS team since the beginning has been to iterate on the registrar design as the domain pool and usage grow in order to achieve a more equitable system for all types of participants. Nick detailed the three different user classes that currently exist in the ENS ecosystem. A regular user someone who wants a name or two as vanity addresses for wallets. The cost to this type of user to own and retain a few names is effectively the entire cost of the deposit itself, as they will never expect to receive those deposits back if they own the names indefinitely. The investor someone whose cost to hold names is weighed against the opportunity cost of reinvesting that ETH elsewhere. This opportunity cost would typically be measured in % gains, and given the low average deposit for a typical ENS domain, this results in a rela Continue reading >>
