Breed Kittens On The Blockchain In This Crypto Game

Drink sweetener aspartame was discovered when a chemist working on a drug to combat ulcers licked his finger and found it was sweet. Now people are making kitten-themed games on the blockchain. You really never know what people will do with a new technology after its discovered or invented. Meet CryptoKitties , a game thats currently in alpha mode and will begin in two weeks on the Ethereum blockchain. Because smart contracts are such an important part of the blockchain technology, it stands to reason that the contract of breeding animals for maximal cuteness is a workable use case. Each CryptoKitty has a 256-bit genome and is breedable with other kitties via smart contract, according to the games site. Why Did Government Santa Tracker, Norad, Ditch Google For Microsoft?

Why Did Government Santa Tracker, Norad, Ditch Google For Microsoft?

Microsoft got an official Christmas present from the big man himself. No, not SantaUncle Sam. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), which has delightfully perpetuated the myth of a flying present-giver on Christmas Eve since the 1950s by tracking Santa, decided to ditch its 5-year-old partnership with Google Maps in favor of Bing. Google supported NTS [NORAD Tracks Santa] from 2007-2011 and helped increase NTS program awareness across the globe; NORAD is grateful for the partnership and the resulting success. This year, NTS and Google mutually agreed to go in new directions, an NORAD spokesman told Search Engine Land. The abrupt change is a little perplexing, especially since Google eclipses Microsoft on most meaningful measures. Even after Apples disastrous iPhone 5 maps fiasco led the company to recommend alternative apps, such as Bing, Google still made worldwide headlines when it released the long-awaited maps app last week. Google-starved Apple users downloaded the maps application 10 million times in just 48 hours (and who knows how many since then). In the UK, Google Maps has a whopping 89% market share, compared to Bings 4%. Watch out, Google: if last months search share loss carries on, then by February 2016 Microsofts Bing will have overtaken you, wrote the Guardian, with a tongue-in-cheek graph that extrapolated Microsoft overtaking Google maps based Bings tiny 0.72% increase in market share in October. NORADs official Santa tracker app has received 223 times more downloads on Googles smartphone operating system, Android, than Windows Phone 8, according to ABC News. Google has significantly more resources devoted to a task that would seem to be very critical for Santas success, said Mike Blumenthal, founder of the blog, Understanding Google P Continue reading >>

Block Con Day 2: A cryptocurrency transaction in VR and the 10 rules of crypto Block Con Day 2, held at Santa Monicas Museum of Flying on Wednesday, October 11, was packed with just as many household blockchain names as Day 1. Block Con Day 2, held at Santa Monicas Museum of Flying on Wednesday, October 11, was packed with just as many household blockchain names as Day 1 . Discussions started off early on a popular crypto topic: decentralized content monetization, which highlighted projects Sense, Yours, Everipedia, and Data Wallet. Ryan Charles, who was tasked by Reddit at one point to lead their cryptocurrency pursuits, sat on the panel. Another interesting conversation took place in the early afternoon. Entitled The Family Office Perspective on Investing in Crypto and ICOs," it featured Sam Englebardt (Galaxy Investment Partners), Will Peets (Passport Capital), J. Alan Reid Jr. (Arista Group) and Kavita Gupta (ConsenSys). The discussion focused on how small family offices might involve bitcoin or blockchain in their daily operations. It might be a simple one family member being convinced that blockchain is transformational, and a good fit for their family business. Ms. Gupta, who runs ConsenSys' venture fund, discussed that many small family businesses in the Middle East have expressed interest in blockchain for their small business. Later, Ariel Musiera gave a speech on Rootstock , and building a better bitcoin. His speech was particularly interesting due to the relation to bitcoin. Most of Block Con focused on blockchain generally or specifically Ethereum or an ERC20 Standard token. RSK is seeking to advance bitcoin technology to make smart contracts on the first cryptocurrency platform a reality. In between presentations, blockchain peer-to-peer payment company V Continue reading >>

in January 2016 when my husband decided to inquire about two beautiful Siamese kittens that were up for adoption. Unfortunat ely, my beloved preci...ous boy, Sapphire had passed away the month prior. After seeing these cute little kittens in pictures and knowing that we still had a lot of love left to share, I wanted them. The applicatio n process was extremely thorough which included a home visit and they even called my Vet for references . I was extremely impressed of how much Debbie cared and the effort she took to make sure that her kittens were placed in a loving home. She drove almost 3 hours to conduct the home inspection and brought the kittens with her just in case! Needless to say, we passed and Prince Judah and Princess Grace became ours! Then, almost 10 months later we found out that a biological brother of our two from another litter was in need of emergency care. Our hearts went out to this sweet boy, now known as Prince Zion. We couldn't allow him to not be in a forever home so we decided to take him in! Now, our family is complete and we are so grateful that we found Debbie and Save A Kitty California Continue reading >>

Crypto Santa Is Secret Santa For The Ultra-paranoid

Crypto Santa Is Secret Santa for the Ultra-Paranoid Influenced by the anonymizing technology of the dark net browser Tor (The Onion Router)and entirely ignoring the source of joy within Secret Santaa group of developers have decided to make Secret Santa truly secret. They created a web application called Crypto Santa thataddsvirtual encryption technology to entirely remove human identificationfrom the semi-anonymous real-worldgift-giving fun of Secret Santa. By randomizing a list of at least five Secret Santa participants and instructing each to wrap their respective gift an extra three times, each layer of wrapping (referred to as Onion Wrapping) will ostensibly be intended for a different participant. Eventually, after the three layers of gift wrap have been unwrapped and the gift is passed around between three people, the fourth person will peel the final layer of wrapping and keep the gift, unaware of thepresents origin. Lest there be anyrisk of the giver being identified, or joy being a mutually expressed sentiment during your Crypto Christmas, Crypto Santas are advised to wrap their presents in identity-dulling newsprint. Ho, ho, meh. The idea is a play on Torsanonymizing technology thatwrapsa users IP address in multiple layers of encryption to prevent snooping. The users signal is bounced through a set of random nodes, making it difficult to track and intercept the source. Analogous to peeling layers off an onion, the browsers network is composed by four integral parts thatoperate as a layered, virtual circuit: the browser user, whose data then accesses an entry node, which is then transferred to a relay node, then to an exit node, which then makes the connection with the website. Each node onlys knows from which relay it received the data and to which node it Continue reading >>

Icelands Killer Christmas Cat

Icelands Killer Christmas Cat

Here we have the legend of Icelands Christmas Cat a creature that lurks in the shadows around Christmas timetrying to find a tasty human morsel to devour! If I was the size of a mouse, Id be more worried about this cryptozoology wonder, but according to our Icelandic friends, this killer feline is bigger than you might guess! How did this legend ever get started? Read on! The Icelandic legend of the Christmas Cat (also called the Yule Cat, or Jolakotturinn), revolves around a huge cat that purportedly hunts down people who havent received a new piece of clothing for Christmas. I know, that hardly seems like grounds for the death penalty, right? Lets look into this bazaar tale a bit more and see it if it makes more sense. The Icelandic people celebrate Christmas starting from December 23 through and including January 6, the feast of the Epiphany. They go to Church, enjoy grand meals as well as the fellowship that comes from the festive, holy season. However, instead of Santa Claus visiting the children on that hallowed 24th night of December, they are visited 13 times by one of 13 Yule Lads. The children leave their shoes out for all 13 nights starting December 12th, and each night they receive a different little gift, sometimes just candies and treats. Yes, instead of Santa Claus, Icelandic children look forward to visits from each of the 13 Yule Lads. That is, if theyve been good. If theyve been naughty, they get rotten potatoes in their shoes. Let me introduce you to the 13 Lads: Stekkjastaur (Sheep-Cote Clod): Has stiff peg-legs that dont stop him from harassing sheep. Arrives 12/12. Giljagaur (Gully Gawk): Found hiding in gullies as he waits for a chance to sneak into a barn and steal some milk. Arrives 12/13. Stufur (Stubby): Very short guy who likes to steal pans Continue reading >>

Merry Crypto Christmas! Cryptocurrency Is The Season's Hottest Gifting Trend - Invest In Blockchain

Another year has come and gone, and Christmas everyones favourite time to shop till they drop is once again upon us. We look at the hottest new trend taking the world by storm: Crypto for Christmas. Some people are easy to Christmas with. They know what they want, and theyre not afraid to tell you. If there are kids in the family, theyre more than likely to write lengthy letters to Santa listing which presents theyd like to receive (always a lifesaver for those who purchase those gifts on Santas behalf). Others are notoriously more difficult. For lack of a more inspired gift idea, do you buy them a white elephant to go with all the other white elephant-items youve gifted them, knowing its the thought that counts because theyll never actually use it? Nah, lets get em a gift card from a store that they might not want anything from and may never have bought from by choice. Problem solved! Perhaps you take a minimalist approach. The holiday season generates a lot of that is pointless and even downright irresponsible. Debt accumulates as money flows out of accounts en masse into the likes of expensive toys that will soon be nothing more than cheap debris forming eery in the worlds oceans, the Anthropocenes ever-growing gift to Planet Earth. Why are we buying all of this stuff? After all, who needs yet another musky soap-on-a-rope, or a gift card to secure one? With an average of US$1 trillion being spent over the holidays, Christmas is big business. Image courtesy of Deloitte Unless youve been lounging under a rock in the Grand Canyon (although even then a hiker would likely have mentioned it to you at some point), youll know that 2017 is the year cryptocurrency left behind its high-level stature reserved for Guys with Glasses who can string together blockchain-words and sm Continue reading >>

Relatively Benign, Cryptomining Is Displacing Ransomware But Thats Not Necessarily A Good Thing

Relatively benign, cryptomining is displacing ransomware but thats not necessarily a good thing Perpetrators chasing easy money as they go where the most CPU cycles are your data centre Cybercriminals surging interest in cryptocurrency miners has seen the quickly-evolving technique apparently displacing ransomware, a new analysis has found, as instigators work to keep ahead of enterprises slowly-maturing information defences. Global crypto miner prevalence increased by 130 percent between September 2017 and January 2018, according to a new Bitdefender report that noted many attacks are piggybacking new code on top of proven exploits like the EternalBlue code that spawned last years WannaCry and NotPetya mega-attacks. Once theyve penetrated corporate defences, many cryptocurrency miners are actively seeking out powerful company servers which were targeted in 51 percent of observed cryptomining attacks and there have been reports of crypto-mining attacks exploiting industrial control systems (ICS) and SCADA platforms. Instigators often adopt obfuscation techniques to avoid detection. This might, for example, include throttling CPU usage during working hours or regularly rotating mining activities around a pool of computers to avoid creating obvious hotspots of high CPU activity. With ransomware its more difficult to make money because you have to create new ransomware samples, send out email attachments and wear the high probability that the victim might not open the attachment, Bitdefender senior e-threat analyst Liviu Arsene told CSO Australia. With browser-based coin miners easy to deploy on compromised Web sites one recent audit found more than 50,000 such sites, and Bitdefenders review found sites compromised in 37 percent of cases cybercriminals have already realis Continue reading >>

Cassandra Shi, center, talks with other guests during a Crypto Christmas Party at Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio in San Francisco. Credit Jason Henry for The New York Times SAN FRANCISCO Joe Buttram, a former mixed martial arts fighter and start-up security guard turned cryptocurrency investor, was looking at a new toy called a CryptoKitty. You can see he wants to sire, Mr. Buttram, 27, said. For about 20 of the cryptocurrency called ether ($14,000 at the time), the cartoon cat would mate with one of Mr. Buttrams, and he would get a new CryptoKitty. That kitty could inherit its fathers desirable eyes (traits include thicccbrowz) or fur pattern (like totesbasic). Every new technology gets a game that helps bring it careening into the mainstream. Social networks had FarmVille. Mobile phones had Angry Birds. And, its investors hope, blockchain has CryptoKitties . Blockchain technology like Bitcoin and Ethereum, ledgers for recording virtual currency transactions, is booming, and CryptoKitties is the first big blockchain game. As they did with baseball cards, people collect CryptoKitties, but these cards can breed. The Ethereum network, whose currency is called ether, is valued at about $70 billion, but not many of the investors really know what their ether can be used to do. And now heres one thing you can do with it: Ether is the only currency that exists in the CryptoKitties world. Since CryptoKitties was introduced a month ago, 180,000 people have signed up. Theyve spent about $20 million in ether, and more than 10 kitties have sold for over $100,000. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, CryptoKitties is now a team of 18. Next the company is starting social games like kitty beauty contests and expanding into other blockchain collectibles. Were just like, man, people wa Continue reading >>
