You can import a Private Key for any asset supported by Exodus. To import a private key you need to access the advanced developer menu. Exodus supports both compressed and uncompressed PrivateKeys. Also, for Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash Exodus also supports importing encrypted (password protected) Private Keys. Below we are showing an example using Bitcoin. All other assets behave the same way. If you are on macOS, the develop menu is under 'Exodus'. If you are using Windows or Linux, it can be accessed by pressingCtrl+Shift+D.Also, if you're running Exodus1.45.0or later, the Developer menu can be accessed from the Help section: Select Developer > Assets > Bitcoin > Move Funds Here, Bitcoin is used as an example; you can substitute for the asset you need. In some assets theoption will be "Move Funds (WIF)...". The reason for this difference is that for Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash you can also import encryptedPrivate Keys, as mentioned above, and for Ethereum based assets there's no WIF format of the Private Key. IMPORTANT NOTE:This does not actually "import" the private key. It just moves the funds from the address into Exodus and this transfer has transactions fees. I had a little over 1 Ether in my Mist wallet worth over $400 and I was having trouble syncing my wallet on my Mac. I tried several times and it got as far as 43% and then it would cease. It got quite frustrating. I searched the web and there was a lot of confusing information that was not very helpful. The easiest way to recover Ether without worrying about your wallet syncing is by first, backing up your Mist wallet (this has your encrypted address and Private Key) to a flash drive or to your computer. If you don't know what a private key is, it's your password to your Ether address. How to back up your Mist Ethereum Wallet: Go to "ACCOUNTS" at the top of your wallet, select "BACKUP" and select "ACCOUNTS" again. All of your accounts will pop up in a window in your KEYSTORE folder. If you only have one account (ethereum address), there will be only one account in that folder. Back up this Keystore folder to a USB or to your computer. Open up that Keystore folder and you'll see your Ethereum address usually starting with for example: "UTC..Ox5a00...." (this contains your Ethereum address and encrypted Private Key). You will need your Mist password in order to upload this wallet into MyEtherWallet.com. Go to MyEtherWallet.com. As long as you remember your account password this might not be a problem. Your wallet and keystore data will be stored in %APPDATA%/Ethereum. Type that into a command-line shell to see the full path. I recommend making a backup copy of the keystore folder in there (as explained in ). After doing that you could try deleting %APPDATA%/Ethereum and then running the latest Mist (0.5.2) to recreate the folder with fresh data. You could then copy your keystore backup into the new %APPDATA%/Ethereum and restart Mist to see if it picks up your account. this is really frustrating, my computer crashed, I reinstalled the OS thinking if I have the password and the address I will be fine, I am not a computer geek, does this mean I lost my ethereum, all? I invested a lot of money in this technology and now I am told that I lost it all. I have my password which I thought it will be enough to "log in" back if I reinstall the wallet, I never knew this is a completely different technology which is not based on logins and I have never been prompted by any popup RED BIG saying: please save your wallet etc.!!! so, the questions is, what now? I just lost a few thousands ethereum?? Sigh, what a joke. When I used geth in February 2016, there was no mention that the software would put a private key in some random folder on my computer, while also downloading the entire ethereum blockchain.
