Litecoin is a decentralized digital currency, with all transactions recorded on the public blockchain. It is an open source software project, similar to Bitcoin, often said to be the silver to Bitcoins gold. Litecoin was created in October 2011 by former Google engineer, Charles Lee. It was mainly created in order to improve upon Bitcoin, to which it differs slightly. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LITECOIN AND BITCOIN? In comparison to Bitcoins 21 million coin limit, Litecoin has a coin limit of 84 million. Also, they refer to different algorithms, as Litecoin uses Scrypt while Bitcoin uses SHA-256. The main difference, however, involves the processing block time. The mean block time for Bitcoin is 10 minutes, while for Litecoin it is 2.5 minutes. Like Bitcoin, you can buy Litecoins for fiat on a number of exchanges. You are also able to exchange bitcoins for Litecoins. As opposed to Bitcoin, the choice of Litecoin wallets is limited and could be problematic. For longer-term storage, it is suggested to setup a Litecoin paper wallet. The term altcoins is short for alternative coins. Given that Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency to surface in the market, the other digital currencies that emerged are referred to as altcoins. A blockchain is a digital ledger recording cryptocurrency transactions, maintaining records referred to as blocks in a linear, chronological order. Continue reading >>

A growing number of companies also are raising funds through "initial coin offerings," or ICOs, complete with celebrity endorsements ranging from boxing legend Floyd Mayweather to Hollywood star Jamie Foxx . The startling run-up in prices for cryptocurrencies, which remain largely unregulated, has the Securities and Exchange Commission on its guard. The agency's chairman, Jay Clayton, is advising potential investors on to exercise caution. Cryptocurrency Trading Tips Litecoin (ltc) Trade Review

Cryptocurrency Trading Tips LITECOIN (LTC) Trade Review Cryptocurrency Trading Tips LITECOIN (LTC) Trade Review Cryptocurrencies get their explosiveness from periods of consolidation where it trades in a relatively tight price range. Litecoin was consolidating for around a month in a 10 dollar range. We got long once it broke out of the top part of the range, after it got even tighter right under the breakout spot. In this kind of trading environment for cryptos, they will often have great follow through after a range is broken. This is one of our favorite daily chart patterns in cryptocurrencies. To get the best entries, you need to align patterns on the daily with the intraday time frame. After confirming a breakout on the daily, it is essential to find a safe entry on a smaller time frame. We use 15 minute charts for trading cryptocurrencies intraday. Just because there is a breakout on a daily does not mean you want to be buying immediately upon the break of the resistance level. You need an intraday pattern to enter safely that will give you the best risk reward possible. In our LTC trade, we didn't buy immediately on the range break. We waited for a pullback after the initial push, for much better risk-reward and lower prices. It is usually easier to play the pullback after a big move has been made, instead of trying to anticipate a breakout. Cryptocurrencies usually don't go straight up without taking a rest. Once you have found a good entry, you have to make an exit plan. You should base your exits based on daily and intraday resistance levels. We find it effective to scale out into strength with cryptos, as they are so volitile a nice unrealized gain can quickly turn into breakeven or even a loss. New traders often make the mistake of not making an exit plan a Continue reading >>

Litecoin (ltc) Price: News & Live Chart - Trading Analysis & Forecast

Litecoin is a digital currency, abbreviated as LTC, distributed in a decentralized network and is one of the world's largest cryptocurrencies. Litecoin launched in October, 2011 as a direct derivative of Bitcoin and its blockchain. Litecoin offered a key advantage over Bitcoin in the form of faster transactions and thus higher potential liquidity-ultimately resulting in lower transaction costs. Litecoin was the first of the top 5 cryptocurrencies in market capitalization to implement the Segregated Witness transaction format. Also known as SegWit, the new protocol allowed for potential speed and security improvements on the original Litecoin software and enabled the use of the so-called Lightning Network. Here the purpose of the secondary network is to enable faster off-blockchain transactions which are ultimately aggregated and broadcast to the blockchain itself. The development and performance of Litecoin has tracked Bitcoin, and therefore has quickly become the world's second-largest cryptocurrency in terms of total market capitalization. In the future we expect Litecoin to track the trajectory of other major cryptocurrencies quite closely. Where it stands to gain is as a more technologically-advanced version of Bitcoin. And indeed price of LTC has thus far outperformed BTC since Litecoin adopted SegWit in May, 2017. You can track Litecoin prices on our currency chart, and read all the latest Litecoin news and analysis to support your cryptocurrency day trading. Continue reading >>

10 Step Guide For Day Trading Bitcoin, Ethereum Andlitecoin

10 Step Guide For Day Trading Bitcoin, Ethereum Andlitecoin

10 Step Guide for Day Trading Bitcoin, Ethereum andLitecoin Ethereum is up over 2,000% since the start of2017. Bitcoin is one of the most important inventions in all of human history. For the first time ever, anyone can send or receive any amount of money with anyone else, anywhere on the planet, conveniently and without restriction. Its the dawn of a better, more freeworld. This past Labor Day weekend (Sept 2017), needing a break from my startup Harvey , I had the choice of binge watching Narcos 3 on Netflix or taking a deep dive into cryptocurrencies. Since learning about the impressive $100M fundraise by Coinbase at a $1.6B valuation last month, Ive been eager to understand their product suite a little better and discover where there might be a new income opportunities, so I jumped in and went deep. Disclaimer: I am not an expert in cryptocurrency day trading, nor do I pretend to be one. I am not offering financial advice. Please understand your own risk tolerance and be responsible with your hard-earned money. I started by wanting to know, in particular, if bitcoin was going to be the punchline of jokes like beanie babies in the 90s, and featured in Economics 101 classes as part of bubble theory. My quick conclusion: I dont believe the bitcoin hype is over-exaggerated. While there will be significant volatility in the price and valuation of bitcoin over the coming years, I strongly believe it and the entire asset class of cryptocurrencies will become a core part of the financial system within 3 years or less. There is enormous risk in trading these assetsmore so than gold, REITS and other commoditiesbut the global market capitalization of cryptocurrencies ( $148 billion today ) I expect to pass $1 trillion by 2019. Many of todays coins will die off, and the ones th Continue reading >>

Litecoin Jumps 30% As Traders Bet On More Users, Upcoming Split Into Litecoin Cash

Chris Ratcliffe | Bloomberg | Getty Images Litecoin surged Wednesday after news that a payments processor for the cryptocurrency is set to launch Feb. 26. The cryptocurrency jumped 36.8 percent to $218.23 on Wednesday and was trading near $207 as of 3:15 p.m. ET, according to CoinMarketCap. Litecoin remained about 11 percent lower for the year so far. LitePay, which says it's based in San Francisco, tweeted late Monday that "infrastructure for LTC [will launch] February 26." Coinbase, the leading U.S. marketplace for major cryptocurrencies, also announced on Wednesday that it has launched a new service that lets merchants accept bitcoin , bitcoin cash , ethereum and litecoin payments. LitePay CEO Kenneth S. Asare said in an email on Wednesday to CNBC that on Feb. 26, 41 countries including the U.S., U.K., China, Japan and Germany "will have access to LitePay merchant payment processing." He also said that the Litecoin Foundation, a Singapore-registered nonprofit for advancing litecoin, is an investor in LitePay. Asare said his team has been working on LitePay's development since the summer of 2017. "Our goal is to create a way for merchants to earn Litecoin, which is a particularly good crypto currency for payments," Asare said. Litecoin is the fifth-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, according to CoinMarketCap. The coin split off from bitcoin in an effort to increase transaction speeds and was released in October 2011 by Charlie Lee, a former employee of Coinbase and Google. Lee said in December he "sold and donated" nearly all his litecoin holdings. Iqbal Gandham, U.K. managing director at eToro, also attributed part of litecoin's gains Wednesday to a fork, or split in two, scheduled for Sunday. The split will give every holder of litecoin 10 coins of " Continue reading >>

Share on Facebook Follow on Facebook Add to Google+ Connect on Linked in Subscribe by Email Print This Post While bitcoin s 1,700 percent rally seems impressive, there is a cryptocurrency whose value grew much faster this year litecoin, and the about to be released GBiT is about to do the same thing. On Tuesday, litecoin set another record high of $255, up an astounding 52 percent in the last 24 hours. On January 1, the virtual currency was worth just above $4. Litecoin is the second oldest cryptocurrency in the world along with Namecoin and SwiftCoin. All the three virtual currencies were launched in 2011, but litecoin became the first to be mined using the so-called scrypt algorithm, which is entirely different from work algorithm of bitcoin. Litecoin is significantly faster than the worlds most popular cryptocurrency. The litecoin network aims to process a block every 2.5 minutes, compared to bitcoins 10 minutes, which allows litecoin to have faster transaction confirmation. Litecoin was started in 2011 with the goal of being the silver to bitcoins gold by Charlie Lee, an MIT graduate, and former Google engineer. Just like bitcoin, litecoin is generated by mining. GBiT has already jumped in value and is yet to hit the public market. The alt-coin has a market cap of $13.4 billion, making it the fifth-largest cryptocurrency by value, according to Coinmarketcap.com. It was developed to improve on bitcoins shortcomings and has earned the market support along with high trade volume and liquidity over the years. Litecoin is designed to produce a maximum of 84 million coins, four times that of bitcoin. Many analysts are saying litecoin should be worth a quarter of bitcoin, which is now priced at almost $17,000. The rise of bitcoin has taken the world of finance by storm wi Continue reading >>

Coinbase Halts Bitcoin Cash Trading As Price Briefly Hits $8,500

Coinbase Halts Bitcoin Cash Trading As Price Briefly Hits $8,500

Update: Were still waiting to hear directly from Coinbase on exactly what went wrong, but the company put out a series of tweets confirming that GDAX trades (and Coinbase buys/sells) will be disabled until tomorrow morning. GDAX also tweeted a brief note that trading was paused after significant volatility in the two minutes that BCH-USD trading was live, but hasnt provided any additional clarity. After just announcingfull support for Bitcoin Cash, buying and selling on Coinbase and GDAX is temporarily disabled. For about an hour Coinbase and GDAX were both showing Coinbase Cash prices at around $8,500, which is almost three times higher than the $3,500 price its trading at on all other exchanges. But for most of this time trading was disabled, so its not clear if any trades were actually executed at the higher price that was temporary shown on GDAX and Coinbase. Right now there seems to be a ton of confusion if the $8,500 price was accurate or not. But since no other exchanges are showing similar prices, its very likely that this $8,500 price was some sort of pricing glitch and not the actual price the broader market was assigning to Bitcoin Cash. As of 20 minutes ago the company said they are canceling the entire Bitcoin Cash order book on GDAX, and will provide another update soon. Buying and selling Bitcoin Cash on Coinbase itself remains down. [status] Monitoring: All BCH books will enter cancel-only mode, and all existing orders will be cleared. While in c Weve reached out to Coinbase for more information, and will update this when we hear back. After the companys announcement , Bitcoin Cash was added on Coinbase and GDAX simultaneously. This is important to note because the liquidity (and price quotes) to buy and sell cryptocurrency on Coinbase come from GDAX, it Continue reading >>
