Jaxx Wallet Vulnerability: Users Report $400k Funds Thefts

Jaxx Wallet Vulnerability: Users Report $400k Funds Thefts Jaxx wallet is the subject of scrutiny Monday as reports surface of at least $400,000 funds being stolen through a security vulnerability. Reports are surfacing of a vulnerability in Jaxx wallet leading to at least $400,000 customer funds being stolen. A report on the insufficient wallet backup phrase storage methods this weekend has now updated to include reports that hackers are already exploiting the problem to steal cryptocurrency from users. A researcher from Vx Labs highlighted the problem Friday, saying they had successfully tested the vulnerability and seen that it worked. Even when your Jaxx has a security PIN configured, anyone with 20 seconds of (network) access to your PC can extract your 12 word backup phrase and copy it down, the report reveals. Jaxx does not have to be running for this to happen. An update subsequently linked to users confirming they had lost Ethereum (ETH), Ethereum Classic (ETH) and Zcash from Jaxx. These appear to total at least $400,000. Nonetheless, Nilang Vyas, CTO of Jaxx & Decentral, said on Reddit there were no plans to alter the wallets security setup. We are very comfortable with this security model for hotwallets, he wrote. The fact is there will always be tradeoffs between user experience, portability and security and we believe weve struck a great balance. Vx meanwhile strongly recommended users avoid Jaxx in future. In the future users will be able to secure their Jaxx wallet with both Trezor, Ledger and our own hardware wallets, Vyas continued. Until that time, please use Jaxx as a hot wallet for small amounts, and use hardware wallets for larger amounts. Correction: After publication of the article below, Jaxx requested acknowledgment that the "theft" of coins re Continue reading >>

They go straight to the network. That means they are subject to change based on the state of the network. If youre wondering, Jaxx makes money by facilitating ShapeShift transactions. Jaxx users can manage their tokens right in their wallets via ShapeShift. This feature allows you to quickly convert between bitcoin, Ethereum and DAO, and will also work for whatever coins the Jaxx developers integrate in the future. In addition to holding several different cryptocurrencies, Jaxx also lets you hold regular, fiat currencies. How do I make or receive payments with my Jaxx Wallet? Therefore, make sure you save your extra BIP39 passphrase and keep it safe, should you choose to enable it. 3. Enter a strong password, and re-type to confirm. Click "Next". Note: The application will prompt you to enter a stronger/more complex password if your current choice does not meet Coinomi's minimum entropy requirements. Do NOT press "Skip" in this step, as without this password your passphrase will remain unencrypted on your device, voiding any other security measures you or Coinomi takes to protect your funds. (The "Skip" option will be removed in one of our future releases completely.) 4. From the Coins list, select as many Coins as you would like to create wallets for. Include the ones you had with Jaxx/Exodus or other wallet. Note: If you forget one, you can always add it manually later by going to Menu/+Coins and selecting it. I Sent Funds To Jaxx But They're Not Showing Up In My Wallet. What's Next?

There could be various reasons as to why you're not seeingyour accurate balance. Follow these steps to troubleshoot this issue: "Did I send funds to the correct address?" Check and make sure that the address you sent funds to is correct. Public addresses are case sensitive so make sure that each character is the same. Please check to make sure you sent funds to the right token (when sending to ETH, ETC or REP). "Does the address exist in mylist ofpublic keys?" Check to make sure that the address exists as one of yourpublic keys by going to Menu > Tools > Display Private Keys > Display and make sure that the target addressis displayed. "Are the funds in my public address (on a block explorer)?" The blockchain is the most accurate point of reference when it comes to balances and transactions. It will show you your most recent transactions as well as your most accurate balance. Check the target address on a block explorer tosee whether the funds have been deposited into that address. If not, it's possible that the transaction has either failed, or is still pending. "Are the balances on the blockchain consistent with the wallet balance in Jaxx?" You can see the balance of each address in Jaxx when you visit your private keys and public addresses(Menu > Tools > Display Private Keys > Display Keys). As shown below, each address will show the balance: If the balances are not the same, make sure that you are not using the following services: Continue reading >>

How To Claim Your Free Bitcoin Gold [btg] From Any Wallet

How To Claim Your Free Bitcoin Gold [btg] From Any Wallet

How To Claim Your Free Bitcoin Gold [BTG] From Any Wallet By: Sudhir Khatwani In: Bitcoin Last Updated: I am assuming that you know about Bitcoin Gold already. But if you dont, check out these write-ups on Bitcoin Gold: Will We Really Lose Bitcoin In The SegWit2x Fork? In short, Bitcoin Gold is a new cryptocurrency that forked out of Bitcoin last week (late October 2017) from the block height of491407. Before the fork, CoinSutra had published detailed instructions for our community so that they could benefit in the future. And that moment of the future has now come! Update: Ledger wallet users should read this tutorial to claim BTG If you were not tracking the fork or not reading CoinSutra and have left your Bitcoin in an exchange that is not supporting BTG after the fork, then you are out of luck. On the other hand, I would like to congratulate our community readers who heeded our advice of keeping their BTC in the Ledger Nano S , Trezor , Mycelium , Jaxx, or other similar wallets, and are now lucky enough to be eligible to claim BTG. Also, these forking events are a timely reminder for all of us that one should never trust exchanges and should always be in control of their own private keys. Note: The fork has already been done and some exchanges have already credited users their BTG tokens. And remember these are only tokens, not actual BTG, given and traded by these exchanges. However, users who had their BTC on a wallet at the time of the fork where they control their seed/private key will be able to claim BTG through the process which I am going to elucidate in this write-up. Another thing is that users will be able to claim BTG only once the BTG blockchain is live, which is going to happen in early November. I will update this section again with the new and lates Continue reading >>

The Bitcoin Thread

The Bitcoin Thread

They moved it by 3 days to 20th of June, not sure why. It does look interesting, and I will participate. It will be the 2nd last ICO I will be involved in because of lack of funds . The last one being Civic on the 21st of June 2017. Nice! I will be attempting to get my 0.1 ETH into the ICO today, I think it could be awesome if enough people use the platform.. I like the Civic concept as well, maybe a 0.1 ETH there too however.. feeling the lack of funds too, roll on Saturday Anybody that's "crypto savvy" in JHB (East Rand) willing to give up an hour of their time in exchange for as many beers as they can drink - and some assistance to somebody that appears to have lost all his cryptocurrency (ETH and BTC) that was in his Jaxx Wallet? Not sure if I've made a noob fck up or what. I transferred my BTC from Luno to Jaxx. So far so good. Then transferrerd the BTC in Jaxx to ETH in Jaxx. All good there. Left the ETH to grow. Which it did diligently. So I sent the ETH (in Jaxx) to my BTC using the Shapeshift onboard (slow confirmation speed). Sent a query to Jaxx citing all the issues - they haven't gotten back to me 4 days later). On the online query form I had to quote Transaction Id's etc etc etc. Then this morning (still no BTC showing) I went into my ETH folder and the balance shows 0. With a transaction showing from last night (at 21H50). Confused AF and losing hope/interest in cryptocurrencies as a result. Looking to have somebody clued up talk me through what I've done wrong. Also, be patient, from reading this it seems that maybe your funds have been sent to ShapeShift (which is why you have a 0 balance) - it may take time for ShapeShift to convert your funds and then send you the BTC Also, be patient, from reading this it seems that maybe your funds have been sent t Continue reading >>

My Wallet Balance Is Not Correct.

My Wallet Balance Is Not Correct.

Occasionally your Exodus balance may need to be manually refreshed - for example, if there was a network update error or if Exodus quit unexpectedly. You can manually refresh your balance by following the steps below: Find what asset has the incorrect balance. In this example we are going to refresh the Aragon balance. These steps are the same for each asset. Open your bitcoin wallet by clicking on Wallet on the left sidebar then choose Aragon. Mouse over the Aragon logo and you will see a refresh icon. Click on the refresh icon. A dialog will open asking you if you want to rescan the blockchain. Choose "Rescan". When this process starts, individual transactions are counted and rebuilt. This is very similar to recounting a drawer of money. This feature was improved in version 1.41.0. If you are using ANY older version it is important to update to the latest version of Exodus then follow the steps above. You can update to the latest version of Exodus by visiting: During an Exodus exchange, the funds leave your wallet for a moment before coming back in the asset you exchanged for. This is normal behavior. You can learn more about the exchange process here: Continue reading >>

My Balance Is Incorrect. How Can I Get The Correct Balance And What Can I Do?

The blockchain will always provide the most accurate information. If you believe that your balances on the application are not correct, feel free to calculate your balance by plugging in your public addresses on a block explorer. Note: Please perform acache reset (Settings > Reset Jaxx Cache) first and see whether that fixes the issue. Remember to write down your Backup Phrase (Tools > Backup Wallet) prior to doing so. To calculatethe balance of a Bitcoin address on the block explorer, follow these steps: 1. Go to Menu > Tools > Display Private Keys > Display Bitcoin keys and click "I understand" on the warning page. You will see your Bitcoin public addressesin pair with your privatekeys. 2. Highlight the public key and then copy it to clipboard. 3. Go to a block explorer such as and paste your address into the search box. 4. You should then be able to see the balance for that address. 5. Do the same for the rest of yourpublic keys. Tally up the balance of each address then compare it to your Jaxx wallet balance. 6. My Real Btc Disapeared On Jaxx Wallet

My Real Btc Disapeared On Jaxx Wallet

You are at: Home Questions My real BTC disapeared on Jaxx wallet Jaxx should be a wallet to keep your bitcoins and altcoins safe, but on October 15th Ive made 2 BTC deposits from my digital currency exchange to my account on Jaxx. After the transaction showed on the history and the status was confirmed, Ive notted that my balance was bigger than the bitcoins Ive sent and, at the same time, the spendable money was lower that the the ammount Ive sent , so Ive contact them. After some emails with Rhonda, they told me that my real balance is actual 0 (Zero), even the spendable showing a certain amount, meaning that I have no bitcoins available, what its impossible since I didnt make any further transaction (withdrawl, deposit or change to another coin) since Ive sent the bitcoins on Oct 15 th to my Jaxx wallet. I asked her to escalate this situation and she said she would do that, and this was the last communication with them on Oct 18th (after that Ive sent 2 emails but nothing). Ive tried to move my spendable money to check if its working, but it showed me an error so, bottonline, what I have now is that my bitcoins have gone!! Continue reading >>

Wallet Crunch: To Jaxx Or Not To Jaxx...

Wallet Crunch: To Jaxx Or Not To Jaxx...

Ok... I need to retract a recommendation I've been making along the way. At various points, I recommended people using Jaxx as a good wallet for Bitcoin and Ethereum. Update: At least not at this point, if you want a wallet that's not buggy as hell. As I've been using it the past while, I've noticed it was a bit glitchy, ShapeShift not working, outgoing transactions taking some time to show up in the balance, balance not updating, etc. Today, the incompetency of the app reached another level. It started as I began transfer funds out of the wallet, moving them around to a hardware/cold wallet. Did a couple smaller transactions to test. Ok. Then, I did a few transactions - and Jaxx had split them into smaller multiple ones - i.e. sent 10 ETH, but it slowly went through, split into 3.5, 2.2, 4.3 - etc. Uh, not cool. Then, kinda paranoid because of what I was going on, I started sending smaller amounts - 5 ETH, 3 ETH - and, the transfers were going through as 0.6345... ETH. This happened maybe six times in a row. Also attempted sending one transaction from the app on my phone instead of on the desktop. Same thing. At that point, I figured maybe this was happening because I wasn't using the latest update of the software - so I checked, there was an upgrade, so I installed the new version. Oh yeah... not only did the update do the same thing, but it was also crazy slow, moreless freezing up to the point I couldn't even send transactions a few times. Quit and reopened the app, same deal. Eventually, I did get everything moved out - though it probably all took about half an hour. Well, at least not if you don't want headaches and stupid incompetency when moving around your cryptos. I apologize for having recommended them before, and retract it. If you want a good desktop walle Continue reading >>

I have a GBX deposit that has been stuck for 7 hours. Its pending and has been stuck on the same confirmation number. I'd fill out a support ticket, but it states the turn-around time for support ticket answers is 12 days. But basically we are seeing the deposit issue across many coins. Yesterday I transfered 3 ETH from Coinbase to Cryptopia. Showed transaction was completed but never received the ETH and got worried. After sleeping and checking back 12 hours later it eventually did go through. Everything is delayed but I'm sure it will arrive. Previous ETH deposits to Cryptopia have been very prompt from my experience. And I did open a ticket with Cryptopia with my transaction ID, but don't know if that was part of the solution.
