QuadrigaCX as the primary exchange to buy/sell cryptocurrency and cash-out in Canada. Coinbase for smaller transactions (under $250). Binance for alt-coin trading. Transfer cryptocurrency of choice to Binance to trade for alt-coins (Ive used ETH to buy alt-coins). You can transfer USD to it too, but I never used that feature. Tradingview to monitor price action and set up alerts. CoinMarket cap to review market cap of cryptocurrencies. A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. Since Litecoin reached its all time high on December 2013 of $38 it then plummeted and kept a steady exchange rate of around $3 for the last 3.5 years. However recently Litecoin started booming again, many people say this is due to the fact the currency has adopted the Segwit soft fork implementations. What Happens If You Can't Sell Your Bitcoin?

What Happens If You Can't Sell Your Bitcoin?

I bought a fraction of a bitcoin in October, and my little investment has appreciated about 150% since then. But if I want to cash out, I might have a problem because apparently its not so easy to sell. I bought my bitcoin through Coinbase, the most popular mainstream exchange for bitcoin and two other cryptcocurrencies, ether and litecoin. Thats where my bitcoin resides. To my mind, its the same as buying a mutual fund or ETF at Vanguard or Fidelity, which would then hold the shares and maintain the account. But the frenzied buying and selling of bitcoin during the last several weeks has caused repeat outages at Coinbase, as the firms servers get overloaded. I dont really want to sell my bitcoin right now, but what if I did? As a test, I tried to place a sell order for $10 worth of bitcoin. Heres the message I got: I tried again about an hour later, and this time Coinbase let my order go through: I sold off $10 worth of bitcoin. But there have been other times during the past few weeks when I wasnt even able to access my account, since the whole website appeared to be offline. Such Coinbase crashes have occurred sporadically during heavy trading days since 2015 , at least. Coinbase has characterized its technical problems as minor service outages caused by high traffic. And its website says the company has insurance to protect all customer deposits, in full. Another popular exchange, Kraken, has had similar outages. This comes amid a dizzying week for bitcoin, with the price soaring 82% during the past seven days and more than 2,200% during the last year. The action has been so volatile lately that by the time you read this story, any price changes I note as Im writing it will assuredly be obsolete. Those giant price gains are luring rabid investors hoping for a cut o Continue reading >>

Coinbase, headquartered in San Francisco, has become one of the most prominent businesses, allowing people to buy and store bitcoins and developing deals with merchants to help them carry out bitcoin transactions. One of the first steps, however, is getting Bitcoin into the hands of more people, and companies like Coinbase along with other exchanges that accept multiple currencies are playing a big role in expanding the virtual currencys network. Coinbase has done a good job of simplifying bitcoin use. To pay for sushi at a local shop, I used the Coinbase app on my Android phone to scan the QR code presented by my server. Continue reading >>
