The algorithm is memory hard and in order to fit the DAG into memory, it needs 1-2GB of RAM on each GPU. If you get Error GPU mining. GPU memory fragmentation? you havent got enough memory. The GPU miner is implemented in OpenCL, so AMD GPUs will be 'faster' than same-category NVIDIA GPUs. ASICs and FPGAs are relatively inefficient and therefore discouraged. To get openCL for your chipset and platform, try: download: ADL_SDK8.zip and AMD-APP-SDK-v2.9-1.599.381-GA-linux64.sh ./AMD-APP-SDK-v2.9-1.599.381-GA-linux64.shln -s /opt/AMDAPPSDK-2.9-1 /opt/AMDAPPln -s /opt/AMDAPP/include/CL /usr/includeln -s /opt/AMDAPP/lib/x86_64/* /usr/lib/ldconfigreboot apt-get install fglrx-updates// wget, tar, openclsudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initialsudo aticonfig --list-adapters* 0. 01:00.0 AMD Radeon R9 200 Series* - Default adapter The following instructions are, for the most part, relevant to any system with Ubuntu 14.04 and a Nvidia GPU. We are working on a GPU miner , but it may not be available for the Frontier release. Geth however can be used in conjunction with ethminer, using the standalone miner as workers and geth as scheduler communicating via JSON-RPC . The C++ implementation of Ethereum (not officially released) however has a GPU miner. It can be used from eth, AlethZero (GUI) and ethMiner (the standalone miner). You can install this via ppa on linux, brew tap on MacOS or from source. brew install cpp-ethereum --with-gpu-mining --devel --buil Continue reading >>

trade over 4 cryptocurrencies to: www.bittrex.com Profitability and hardware have already been described, so now it's time to look at Ethereum mining software. Here, there are are three important things to consider: the operating system, your skills, and the ethereum mining software itself. Which operating system should you choose? When deciding which operating system to use for ethereum mining software, there are three main candidates: Windows, Linux, and ethOS. Mac OS fans may be disappointed, but although this is a possible option, it is not recommended for many reasons. If you are familiar with Windows and have no Linux experience, it is best to stay with the Windows platform. But if you want to run six GPUs, Windows 10 is recommended because it provides natural built-in support. However, some configuration tweaks are required in Windows 7 & 8. If you like command-line systems and mining is your rigs sole function, then ethOS is also worth considering. In addition, Windows offers the benefits of universal support and generally better overclocking tools. Furthermore, access via TeamViewer is an absolute breeze. It can be slightly tricky to set-up, but this can be overcome, especially if GPU optimization is not required. You can mine ethereum as a hobby via a desktop PC using MinerGate software. ethOS is a slimmed-down version of Linux (Ubuntu 14.04 to be precise) designed to process ethereum (and some other cryptocurrencies). Not only is it incredibly easy to set up, it's also simple to use and maintain no wonder it is one of the most commonEthereum mining software. It also performs more efficiently than Windows. One disadvantage is that you will not be able to use your rig for anything other than mining. However, that is all that most miners will require. In additi Continue reading >>

Ethereum is an open blockchain platform similar to Bitcoin but with additional in-built flexibilities. With Ethereum, the blockchain can be considered to be intelligent thanks to the Ethereum Virtual Machine and Smart Contracts. Whereas with Bitcoin its a glorified ledger. With Ethereum you can execute code on the blockchain in a distributed way. These are called Smart Contracts. These allow you to set up a system, whereby a person will only receive payment under certain conditions. As Ethereum grows, the scale and complexities of these contracts are expected to increase. Smart Contracts is what has given Ethereum such a solid footing, as like with the blockchain has a functional use. If youre interested in about how Ethereum came about and wanted to find out more about it, then watch this YouTube video by COO, Stephan Tual . Before you determine if you should go on your Ethereum mining adventure; youll need to decide whether its going to be profitable or not. While, on the surface, this is incredibly easy, as Ill show below, you must be aware that mining is very much like trading. Cryptocurrency pri Continue reading >>

Mining - Is There A Way To Mine Ether On A Mac? - Ethereum Stack Exchange

All I see is Windows and Linux support only, why is there no guide for mining ether on a Mac? Is there a way to mine on a Mac? Well, there are no guides because mining on a Mac is really ineffective, even on a Mac Pro. However, it's pretty easy all you need is ethminer: brew tap ethereum/ethereumbrew install cpp-ethereum Also note that mining makes your hardware age very fast. You should mine on your mac only if you don't care about its hardware. Nicolas Massart Jul 4 '16 at 11:31 Mining on a Mac is not really worthwhile. In fact mining on your own on any Desktop computer is not really worthwhile. Your costs (electricity, hardware wear etc) are greater than what you earn. Over on the Ethereum forum , user 'bluebox' provides some additional insight including: If your GTX780M has 2GB, it's possible but not going to be very good (low, low hash rate). The DAG file (1.4GB) has to fit entirely in GPU memory, even so the 7xx series won't mine too well. 3-4GB GPU RAM is minimum these days. Yes, you probably could mine on it, just don't expect much. And don't let anybody tell you it will "melt" you can't hurt it, but just remember heat over time shortens the life of all silicon-based lifeforms. SMCFanControl still works on El Cap, so you can crank the fans up. Essentially it will depend exactly what Mac you have, and what hardware it has but it is generally not worthwhile. If you want to mine, you should probably consider a pool . Continue reading >>

Ahhhh... Gpu Ethereum Mining Not Working On Mac Os X! Help!!

AHHHH... GPU Ethereum Mining NOT WORKING on Mac OS X! HELP!! So I have 4x R4's and 3x S9's hashing, but since I just bought a top configured MacBook Pro 2016 touch bar 15" w/ 4GB AMD 460 Graphics, figured I'd just want to play around with ETH mining off a GPU. I know it's nothing like the crazy desktop rigs y'all have been setting up, but it's better than nothing. I've tried Geth/Brew and Ethminer wouldn't even install properly via terminal. Tells me to repair permissions under the ./homebrew folder, which I tried to pinpoint and restore permissions, but no luck. I've also tried AlethZero for Mac (supposed a standalone Mac GPU miner) but it doesn't work... Any suggestions? I'd hate to post a duplicate thread, but all the current threads on this site or others weren't helpful... just the same Brew/Eth installation instructions which DO NOT work... 12+ exclusive games The Bitcoin Casino by Primedice Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. Register for the ICOs and Regulation Webinar on March 22nd at 11AM EST Now that you know " How Ethereum Mining Works ", you may want to know how to compete in the race to mine ether yourself. To recap, mining is the glue that holds ethereum's 'decentralized app store' together by ensuring that it comes to consensus on each change to any of the applications (dapps) running on the network. Take the online notebook described in " What is Ethereum? ". The network would not come to consensus about the 'state' of the notebook (say, if a note is added or deleted) without the computational power to process the changes. Miners set computers loose to solve cryptographic puzzles in an attempt to win ether, and they need to try a huge number of computational problems until one unlocks a new batch of the asset. One of the interesting things about open blockchains is that, in theory, anyone can set their computers to focus on these cryptographic puzzles as a way to win rewards. The catch is that mining on major public blockchains tends to require more and more power over time, as more people invest inmore powerful hardware. In this day and age, those mining with low-powered setups are unlikely to win, but it's still a viable past-time for hobbyists and enthusiasts alike. Before getting started, you will need special computer hardware to dedicate full-time to mining. There are two types of mining hardware: CPUs and GPUs. GPUs boast a higher hash rate, meaning they can guess puzzle answers more quickly. At time of writing, GPUs are now the only option for ether miners. Settling on a GPU is a complextask and you can browse plenty of advice about which ones are the most profitable based on hash rate performance, power consumption and the initial expense of the card. You probably want to Continue reading >>

You do not need to download the full Ethereum blockchain, which is now over 20+ GBs and still growing! You also do not need to manage clunky command line miners with manual instructions. For purposes of this guide, we are going to do a detailed walk-through of setting up and using the very popular Claymore Miner. Get the current version here from Claymores original Bitcointalk thread and then follow along with the steps in this video. The whole process of getting a wallet setup, downloading your miner, configuring things in Windows and setting up your batch file to run should take less than 10 minutes: If youre new to mining Ethereum , this guide covers all the important facts in a simple, low-jargon way. Lets start with some short answers to common questions about Ethereum mining: Q: Whyshould Imine Ethereum tokens (aka ether or ETH)? doesnt mining Ether take up a lot of electricity? A: If done properly, more money is earned by selling mined ETH than is spent on electricity. In other words, its profitable! You can check out the profitability with our Ethereum mining calculator . Q: Can I mine with my CPU (Personal computersprocessor) instead ofan expensive graphics card (GPU)? A: GPUs are so much faster that CPU-mining is no longer profitable or worthwhile. Even entry-level GPUs are about 200 times faster than CPUs for mining purposes. Q: Whats the best GPU to use for getting the most ETH for the least electricity? A: AMD cards tend to edge out similarly-priced NVidia cards in terms of efficiency. We cover the best cards to get under the heading GPU Hardware further down in this post. Q: Continue reading >>

Intersting read! Was it difficult to get Etherminer to run? I agree with RoberEvans, you could probably get a lot more out of your cards in windows but I find mining on this scale to be more of a try it out for fun since the time you would invest to set up Windows + optimize + electricity would eventually not even be worth it monetarily. Just for a laugh I thought I'd give this a try, following KelNishi's rough path. It was quite easy to do (although I didn't build from source, I used a ready-made package). My results were pretty poor though, and I'm using an AMD Radeon Pro Vega 64 16GB RAM and NVIDIA 1080TI (11 GB RAM). I was expecting better results, but was only getting 8Mh/s from both cards. So I must be doing something wrong. I messed with the config a bit to try a few things, but no joy. So now I'm going down the path of trying to compile from source (which will enable me to use CUDA on the NVIDIA card, which is not possible from the build I used). I'm not sure if it will help, but I've no idea how to build from source so it will be a learning experience for me to figure it out and see if I get some better results. It's pretty cool though that you can mine on eGPU, and still use it for an external display. If only it was worth toasting your kit [and/or house] in the background to eventually try to get your system to pay for itself. Sigh. Missed that boat! 8MH/s sounds like it's using an internal GPU or only the 1080TI. I got my ethminer source from: Building from source required XCode and homebrew to be installed, but it wasn't too bad.
