Bitcoin And Ethereum Price Has Peaked, Billionaire Says | Fortune

Bitcoin And Ethereum Price Has Peaked, Billionaire Says | Fortune

About two months ago, hedge fund billionaire Michael Novogratz made a bold announcement: Hed put 10% of his net worth into digital currencies including Bitcoin and Ethereum. But a lot can happen in a couple of months. Specifically, the price of Bitcoin has more than doubled, and the Ethereum price has multiplied six-fold. So around the time the cryptocurrencies reached all-time highs earlier in June, with the Bitcoin price hitting $3,000 and Ethereum breaking $400 the following day, Novogratz thought the current crypto boom had topped out. He sold a bunch of his digital coins. I think the market had a spectacular run, and trees dont grow to the sky, Novogratz said this week, speaking at CBInsights Future of Fintech conference in New York. So I probably still have roughly 10% of my net worth in crypto, but its been scaled way back. I own a lot less coins, theyre just worth more, Novogratz added. His call turned out to be well-timed. Just days after setting record prices, Bitcoin and Ethereum crashed as much as 25% in just 24 hours. Ethereum kept right on falling, at one point trading 46% off its high and thats not even counting last weeks flash crash in which the price briefly plummeted to just 10 cents. Cryptocurrency traders have become accustomed to their prices violently whipsawing up and down in waves a 30% drop in the Bitcoin price in May preceded its recent peak by about two weeks but the current downdraft appears more sustained. Though the cryptocurrencies, rooted in a technology system known as the blockchain, have each since recovered some of their losses, they have yet to come anywhere close to their highs. Now, Novogratz, who formerly ran a hedge fund at Fortress Investment Group and now invests in blockchain companies, thinks the cryptocurrencies have peake Continue reading >>

Devcon3!!! - Ethereum Blog

Devcon3!!! - Ethereum Blog

A big thanks to our attending dev community, presenters, internal team, sponsors, enthusiasts, volunteers, event team, students and other stakeholdersforcoming together for another phenomenal Devcon3! First of all, yes, video of all sessions, both from the Main Hall and Breakout Hall will be posted on the Ethereum Foundation YouTube channel as soon as our post production team can finish them. This year I contracted and brought a post production team to the venue with us so they could start work onsite as soon as the raw footage could be handed over. Since we had two halls instead of one, thenumber of presentations to process was close to double, so the guys are working hard to cut, edit, render and upload four days (versus three days from last year) of devcon presentations to the web. There will be a tweet (@ethereumproject) in the next 7-10 days! Secondly, as promised, we spent the requisite time and resources to engage vendors who could deliver free live streaming of the main stage presentations so that people who couldnt be at the venue could see the Main Hall presentations in real time. By all accounts, live streaming went well for those who had a conducive internet connection. Thirdly, the photos taken by the official Devcon3 photographers are ready! They are now beingprepared in albums to be shared online early next week. As Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, one of my responsibilities isrunningDevcon, and it is with pleasure that I am able toplan and execute our annual developers conference, including enjoying being an emcee for the event, which allows me to engage more with our development community than any other time during the year. It was a tall order to meet the high expectations our attending community had for Devcon3, which is why planningbeg Continue reading >>

Ethereum's Annual Conference: Devcon Three Focuses On Scalability | Btcmanager

BTCMANAGER (@btc_manager) November 4, 2017 DAO Integral Platform for Climate Initiatives A similar initiative focused on carbon credit and decentralizing this process was put forward by Anton Galenovich Ph.D. Galenovich emphasized the fragmented nature of carbon credit markets; one and the same basic asset and liability is characterized by dozens of markets and instruments. For example, there are about 40 different carbon compliance units representing what is, fundamentally, the same asset. To bring them all under one instrument, the DAO plans to use IoT along with Ethereum network validators. Smart contracts packages are functioning already for carbon credit markets, which have been tested with real participants and aim to build the first service for reducing your carbon footprint with only carbon credits based on Ethereum. The idea is influenced by the Coase theorem, which revolves around a hypothetical situation relating to social costs. Imagine you have a doctor living above a residential apartment. The noises from the dentists is causing a nuisance, namely the form of noise pollution. The doctor will have to pay X for quieter equipment, while the resident will have to pay Y to sound proof his living space. Assume, YContinue reading >>

Bitcoin Ethereum: 7 Cryptocurrency Predictions From Experts | Fortune

Bitcoin Ethereum: 7 Cryptocurrency Predictions From Experts | Fortune

Get Data Sheet , Fortunes technology newsletter. 1. Bitcoin and Ethereum are here to stay. Most people who are enthusiastic about cryptocurrency appear to agree that Bitcoin and its newer rival Ethereum have staying power, though they may be more bullish on one versus the other. In terms of 5 to 10 years, Bitcoin and Ether will be around I bet, Balaji Srinivasan told the room of more than 70 people. Peter Smith said his company, Blockchain, which was early to Bitcoin, has only just started to warm up to newcomer Ethereum. In contrast, Mike Cagney, CEO and cofounder of SoFi, a personal finance company, said during a separate session on the main stage that he was hotter on the latter technology . Bitcoin has some purpose but its application for commercial transaction is limited right now, Cagney said. The blockchain and Ethereum, on the other hand, have absolutely fascinating infrastructure applications, he continued, mentioning the possibility to overhaul title insurance, which involves policies related to real estate, as one example. 2. As yet unknown coins will hit the big time. Bitcoin and Ethereum may have stolen the show at this point, but the innovation wont end there. Expect more winners on the horizon. Kathleen Breitman is hopeful that Tezos, her own blockchain bet, will fill a niche that solves problems with extant blockchains. In particular, she and her projects developers are designing Tezos to automatically push software updates out to the network, thus, in theory, avoiding the divisive feuding over upgrades that has wracked systems like Bitcoin over the past few years. No one can say how many tokens and coins and blockchain protocols will eventually win out, but the experts seem to think theres room for a multitude. Its likely that another one or two domina Continue reading >>

When nearly 2,000 ethereum enthusiasts gathered in Cancn last week for the Ethereum Foundations annual technical conference , Devcon, they had good reason to celebrate. The price of ether, the cryptocurrency that ethereum uses, had risen from around $10 a year earlier to around $300 by the time of the conference. Two floors of the Cancn International Convention Center became the epicenter of an ebullient tribe of ethereum engineers for four days, as they discussed the future of the world computer they were building by day and partied at resorts and bars across Cancns sequestered Hotel Zone by night. The Bitcoin, Ethereum & Blockchain Superconference On February 16, 17 And 18, 2018

Is It Too Late To Get Involved in Crypto? Not at all. Even if you didn't mine 10,000 bitcoins using your old PC in 2012, bitcoin, ethereum, altcoins and blockchain technology are still in their infancy. 99.9% of the world's population is barely aware of how bitcoin, ethereum, and other blockchain-based tokens are starting to address real use cases, such as: Banking the unbanked or under-banked (billions worldwide) Putting personal, medical and financial data under the control of the individual (not only in the hands of governments or large institutions) Providing decentralized, peer-to-peer, fast, world-wide, un-hackable, non-inflationary engineered currencies (money) (Bitcoin, Dash, Monero, Zcash, Litecoin, Decred, and more) Allowing individuals to buy, sell, lease, and hold title to property and land on public blockchains that are un-hackable and un-alterable, even by nation states Digitizing assets (baseball cards, real estate, art, recordings of songs, books, etc) and allowing creators to get paid for their work in a more direct way that allows them to control and profit from their work. You Can Read All You Want Online, or Watch YouTube Videos Till You're Bleary-Eyed... However, nothing compares to meeting the best and brightest developers, founders, insiders, and crypto enthusiastsin PERSON. That's why we're putting on The Bitcoin, Ethereum & Blockchain Superconference in Dallas, Texas (February 16, 17 and 18, 2018) With over 800 expected attendees, 35 top-notch speakers and 50+ exhibitors from the bitcoin, ethereum and alt coin worlds, and talks from ICOs and blockchain startups, this conference is going to be a diverse, wonderful, and potentially profitable experience for all who attend. Vitalik Buterin, Other Experts To Talk Ethereum, Dao, Social Goods On Edcon 2017

Vitalik Buterin, Other Experts to Talk Ethereum, DAO, Social Goods on EDCON 2017 2017 will open up for Ethereum community with the hottest event - EDCON Ethereum European Development Conference (EDCON) - in Paris later this month. Many would agree that 2016 was the year of Ethereum , as the smart contract platform and its native token have experienced an incredible boom in the first half of the year when Ethereum price increased from less than $1 to over $20. The second half of the year was a little bit rougher, though, with a high-profile multimillion-dollar investment DAO platform being compromised and a series of attacks causing the Ethereum Foundation to opt for emergency hard forks causing a split in the Blockchain. Despite the fact that the exchange rate has since dropped, ETH was still named as one of the best-performing cryptocurrencies of 2016 and Ethereum smart contracts platform has been announced as the future of computing itself. 2017 will open up the hottest event for the Ethereum community. LinkTime , a startup that develops Ethereum applications is to host the first ever Ethereum European Development Conference (EDCON) in Paris from Feb. 17-18, 2017, at the cole suprieure de commerce de Paris Europe (ESCP). The event is supported by the Ethereum Foundation, ADETIF, Asseth- a French Ethereum non-profit and La ChainTech- a French Blockchain non-profit. Pandia Jiang, the founder of LinkTime, feels really inspired about the speed of Ethereum development. The progress of Ethereum will help us to improve trust, she says, and build better institutions to promote a free, fair and honest society and advance humanity progress to the next level. Jiang notes that Ethereum applications are continually developing. The interest in Ethereum is increasing from all sides Continue reading >>
