Ethereum Classic is the result of the Ethereum currency division. This happened in 2016 after the controversial decision of the board of the Ethereum platform. Decision concerned hard fork, or erase transaction using hook left on the DAO platform. Ethereum Classic is a continuation of Ethereum Blockchain and is protected against untampered history, free from external interference and subjective tampering of transactions. Valid transactions can never be erased or forgotten. Awarding smart contracts at Ethereum Classic, you can be sure that the network remains neutral. The outcome of transactions will be dictated by code you voluntarily interact with. Unless explicitly defined by the contract code, there are no reversals, no undos, no opt-outs. Mining success depends on the set block difficulty. Block difficulty dynamically adjusts each block in order to regulate the network hashing power to produce a 12 second blocktime. Your chances of finding a block therefore follows from your hashrate relative to difficulty. Ethash uses a DAG (directed acyclic graph) for the proof of work algorithm, this is generated for each epoch, i.e., every 30000 blocks (125 hours, ca. 5.2 days). The DAG takes a long time to generate. If clients only generate it on demand, you may see a long wait at each epoch transition before the first block of the new epoch is found. However, the DAG only depends on the block number, so it can and should be calculated in advance to avoid long wait times at each epoch transition. Both geth and ethminer implement automatic DAG generation and maintains two DAGs at a time for smooth epoch transitions. Automatic DAG generation is turned on and off when mining is controlled from the console. It is also turned on by default if geth is launched with the --mine option. Note that clients share a DAG resource, so if you are running multiple instances of any client, make sure automatic dag generation is switched off in all but one instance. To generate the DAG for an arbitrary epoch: For instance geth makedag 360000 ~/.ethash. Note that ethash uses~/.ethash (Mac/Linux) or ~/AppData/Ethash (Windows) for the DAGso that it can shared between different client implementations as well as multiple running instances. Our algorithm, Ethash (previously known as Dagger-Hashimoto), is based around the provision of a large, transient, randomly generated dataset which forms a DAG (the Dagger-part), and attempting to solve a particular constraint on it, partly determined through a blocks header-hash. It is designed to hash Continue reading >>

5 Best Ethereum Mining Pools To Join 2017 / 2018 (comparison)

Jordan Tuwiner Last updated July 13, 2017 Once you get Ethereum mining hardware , your next step is to decide on which Ethereum mining pool youll join. A mining pool helps you get more frequent payouts rather than only getting paid when you solve an Ether block. Note that mining has a lot of up-front costs, and if you just want Ether than its usually a better idea to just buy Ethereum . Youll also need Ethereum mining software to point your hardware towards your selected pool. And, an Ethereum wallet to receive payouts to . Weve listed the top pools in order of hash rate share according to Etherchain : The pools below are mining pools. This means you need to own mining hardware. If you want another company to mine for you you need cloud mining . Ethpool and Ethermine are two different sites although they appear to be basically the same pool. They are currently the largest Ether mining pool with about 25% of the networks hash rate. F2pool is also a Bitcoin mining pool. Its Ether mining pool appears to only be available in Chinese, so this is not a good option for most of our readers. DwarfPool is the third largest Ethereum mining pool with about 13% of the networks hash rate. In addition to Ether you can mine a bunch of other currencies like Monero and Dash. ethfans is another Chinese pool with about 8.6% of the network hash rate. If you just want ether, mining is NOT the best way to obtain coins. Buying ether is the EASIEST and FASTEST way to get ether. Get $10 worth of free ether when you buy $100 or more at Coinbase . This section will answer common questions about Ethereum pools. All of the pools are pretty good and ideally you will just want to choose one that is reliable, has low fees, and has a server near you. Minergate Adds Support For Mining Ethereum Classic

Minergate Adds Support For Mining Ethereum Classic

MinerGate Adds Support for Mining Ethereum Classic Join our community of 10 000 traders on Hacked.com for just $39 per month. Minergate, a mining pool and the developer of GUI mining software that supports mining of various cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Ethereum,is including support for Ethereum classic, the blockchain based on the original Ethereum platforms consensus before the hard fork. Although the original Ethereum blockchain was officially abandoned following a hard fork that was triggered as a result of the DAO attack, a group of community members have since come together to implement the Ethereum blockchains original consensus. The project , known as Ethereum Classic, was announced last week. While it gained scarce support initially, a move by Poloniex Ethereum token ethers largest exchange to add support to the Ethereum Classic blockchain (ETC or ETHC) is more validation for those who opposed the hard fork. Cryptocurrency mining pool MinerGate is among them. In an announcement communicated to CCN today, MinerGate revealed that it will enable mining support for Ethereum Classic. The decision was made out of a deep conviction that Ethereum could thrive without manual actions [the hardfork] in the first place, as officially stated by our CEO . Having this in mind, MinerGate couldnt miss the opportunity to encourage the development of the untouched original Ethereum blockchain. A day prior to the hard fork last week, MinerGate CEO Claude Lecomte had stated that the fork endangered Ethereum on three levels, further explained here. I personally do not support the hard fork proposal, Lecomte stated. This proposal washes away the idea of the irreversibility of smart contracts and interferes with core technology. Despite his disagreement, the chief executive Continue reading >>

The 3 Best Ethereum Mining Pool Options

The 3 Best Ethereum Mining Pool Options

So, youve heard that mining Ethereum can be a profitable business and may have bought a mining rig. Your next step should be to join an Ethereum mining pool. Mining pools are simply groups of miners that work together to mine Ethereum . Joining a pool helps to lower the volatility of your payouts by providing smaller, more frequent payments rather than a lump sum that you only receive when a block is solved. When choosing a mining pool, its important to join one with low fees that brings reliable returns. You should also consider the server location of the pool when deciding which is best for you. The closer your mining rig is to the server, the more efficiently it can mine. In this article, I highlight three of the best Ethereum mining pools so you can confidently decide which one to join: For a complete list of the available mining pools, check out EtherChain . Ethpool and Ethermine are operated from two different websites but contribute to the same pool. With ~25.0% of the network hash rate power, this pool is the largest one on the Ethereum network. Ethermine currently has over 62,000 miners using the pool software while Ethpool has a little under 900. Both Ethpool and Ethermine charge a 1% fee on each reward that you receive one of the lowest fees of the pools I researched. Ethermine allows you to set the minimum payment threshold needed to receive your rewards. If you want to receive your payments infrequently, you can set the threshold to the maximum of 10 ETH. Set your threshold to the 0.05 ETH minimum to receive payments more often. Nanopool is the third largest mining pool with ~13.2% of the network hash rate and over 38,000 miners. The pool fee is also less than most competitors at 1%. The default minimum payout threshold using Nanopool is 0.2 ETH, but youre Continue reading >>

6 Ethereum Classic Mining Pools Worth Checking Out

6 Ethereum Classic Mining Pools Worth Checking Out

6 Ethereum Classic Mining Pools Worth Checking Out 6 Ethereum Classic Mining Pools Worth Checking Out One thing many seem to forget is that Ethereum no longer has an immutable blockchain, which is kind of the whole point of the blockchain. When the Ethereum network split into ETH and ETC, Ethereum itself became amutable fork of the original blockchain, whereas Ethereum Classic is still the original chain as it was created many years ago. A lot of people have taken a liking to Ethereum Classic lately, and they are looking for good mining pools. Below are some of the options certainly worth checking out. The Coin-Miners Ethereum Classic mining pool operates on the PPLNS scheme. They base payouts on the pay-per-last-1000-shares scheme, which means users will be compensated fairly for their contributions. It does appear this pool struggles to gain traction among miners, though, as it has no active online miners according to the site statistics. This makes it ideal for new users to start mining here and help decentralize ETC mining in the process. If there is one mining pool nearly all cryptocurrency enthusiasts are familiar with, it isSuprnova. The mining pool has always supported popular cryptocurrencies, and Ethereum Classic is no exception. Unfortunately, the pool shows no hashrate for ETC mining right now. Even so, it is certainly a mining pool worth checking out by new ETC users, sinceSuprnova has a solid reputation in the cryptocurrency community. MinerGate has quickly become a household name forcryptocurrency miners. The pool also supports Ethereum Classic, among other popular cryptocurrencies. In fact, their ETC pool is currently hashing away at around 8GH/s, and rewards miners based on the PPLNS scheme. This is quite common among mining pools these days. Consideri Continue reading >>
