Rebranding Brooklyn, Where I Grew Up

Rebranding Brooklyn, Where I Grew Up

Ive never been married before. Though I imagine my relationship to Brooklyn is like a couple that got married really young. Your spouse is amazing, still. Beautiful, even. But they begin to change, a natural consequence of growthin ways you have a hard time connecting to. You never want to bring up the old days or how things used to be out of fear that youre unyielding and set in your ways. Ultimately, you have to determine if what you have left is worth salvaging or whether you should jump ship. I think theres a saying that goes everyone misses the old New York, and I guess theres some truth to that. The jewelry spot where I would buy chintzy, gold-plated jewelry from on Fulton is a Zales or an American Eagle or an H&M, and all of Bed-Stuy is for sale, it seems. My best memories are being bulldozed, built on, removed, and painted over too fast for me to adjust. My walk home from the train station is uncomfortable. Bushwick is uncomfortable. I want all the perks, resources, changes that come with gentrification for the people who have roots here. For the abuela who lives alone and could never endure a rent increase, for the young girls who needed a police presence five years ago to feel safe coming home from work at night, orwhen my best friend and I saw one kid shoot another one in front of the church around the corner from my house. No one was around to save us. So as much as I enjoy the cosmetic changes and safer streets, I know that none of it is truly intended for me, or any of my neighbors. We ended up with it by default. I always wonder whats in the minds of all the transplants who move into Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy and Flatbush. Are they aware? Is it too uncomfortable to think about? They arent responsible for the changes, but their faces are a constant remin Continue reading >>

Ethereum's Sharding Push Could Be A Game Changer For Crypto Market

Ethereum's Sharding Push Could Be A Game Changer For Crypto Market

Ethereum's Sharding Push Could Be A Game Changer For Crypto Market Ethereum is planning to boost its scalability through sharding technology and this is very good news for the crypto market. Vitalik Buterin, 24-year-old founder of Ethereum, has announced on Monday that sharding will be introduced to the Ethereum network. If it happens, it would tackle a huge hurdle for Ethereum and could seriously explode the market cap of the coin. It may also enable it to overtake Bitcoin as the primary cryptocurrency used to conduct business. According to Buterin's comment on Reddit, the primary goal is "massive scalability improvement." If the concept is successful, each one of the shards or partitions will have "as high capacity (and likely more) than the existing Ethereum chain," he noted. One of the issues with blockchain technology is scalability. Currently, any transaction executed on blockchain technology -- Bitcoin, Ethereum or Ripple -- is executed as one giant wrapped-up operation. Having so much information move on the same node slows down the transaction process. As a result, cryptocurrencies can only execute so many transactions at once, slowing down the process and limiting the product's scalability. As each new legitimate crypto has been formed and accepted the speed of the transaction has been improved. Ethereum is faster than Bitcoin, and other coins are faster than both. In the case of Ethereum, it is not just a cryptocurrency. It's a network for applications and a transaction system. Recall a few months back when Ethereum was essentially shut down by the overabundance of 'cryptokitties' being purchased on its network. With Ethereum carrying two hats, and limited in speed, scalability of Ethereum is a real issue. Enter sharding. You can think of shards as partition Continue reading >>

Beginner - Expanse

Expanse is an open blockchain platform forked from Ethereum that lets anyone build and use decentralized applications that run on blockchain technology. Like Bitcoin and Ethereum, no one controls or owns Expanse it is an open-source project built by many people around the world. But unlike the Bitcoin protocol, Expanse was designed to be adaptable and flexible. It is easy to create new applications on the Expanse platform. Expanse is a programmable blockchain. Rather than give users a set of pre-defined operations (e.g. bitcoin transactions), Expanse allows users to create their own operations of any complexity they wish. In this way, it serves as a platform for many different types of decentralized blockchain applications, including but not limited to cryptocurrencies. Expanse incorporates many features and technologies that will be familiar to users of Bitcoin, while also introducing many modifications and innovations of its own.Whereas the Bitcoin blockchain was purely a list of transactions, Expanses basic unit is the account. The Expanse blockchain tracks the state of every account, and all state transitions on the Expanse blockchain are transfers of value and information between accounts. The word mining originates in the context of the gold analogy for crypto currencies. Gold or precious metals are scarce, so are digital tokens, and the only way to increase the total volume is through mining. This is appropriate to the extent that in Expanse too, the only mode of issuance post launch is via mining. Unlike these examples however, mining is also the way to secure the network by creating, verifying, publishing and propagating blocks in the blockchain.Mining Expanse = Securing the Network = Verifying Computation Need more? Over recent years, decentralized blockchain technology has been completely revolutionizing every aspect of the economy, as well as making its way into the communications and technology industries. And, as this worlds financial trade volumes continue to increase, the current blockchain applications cannot meet the needs of the global economy. Overall, the ambition of blockchain projects is to optimize scalability, without compromising on decentralization or security. QuarkChain is an up and coming innovative blockchain ecosystem that is geared to meet the needs of the increasing global trade volume. It will provide a decentralized solution to the problem that is both secure and scalable. Furthermore, it is poised to be capable of delivering over 1 million on-chain TPS. A double layer of blockchain security that is re-shardable. QuarkChain is made up of two separate layers of blockchains. The first is a pliable sharding blockchain and the second is a root blockchain which functions to validate and confirm the first layer. Moreover, the first layer is elastic and flexible enough that it can be resharded as much as is needed without making changes to the root layer. Guaranteed transaction security through a collaborative mining process. To ensure the security of each transaction, QuarkChain has been designed with a secure framework in which at least half of all power is given to the root blockchain. In this way, the network can prevent double spending attacks on any transactions made within the network. Scalability geared against centralization. A common problem any blockchain network that has a high TPS is that a super-full node can become quite expensive and encourage centralization. On the other hand, QuarkChain thwarts this by allowing multiple smaller nodes to form a Continue reading >>

Cryptokitties Tip#2 Free Kitty Giveaway! How To Use Kittyexplorer

Congrats to the winner of the last cryptokitties post. I will announce them in about 10 mins in the comments section. I will be giving away a Free Kitty for this post as well! Just Follow me, Upvote, Resteem, and Comment with something relevant and remember to include your Kitty Wallet Address. The screens above give you a good idea what the market is doing. The most important chart IMO is the average kitty price. This helps you determine whether its a buyers market or a sellers market. This section helps best when trying to find out how much to sell a kitty for. Put your gen, fancy, and cattributes in the search to find out how much comparable Kitties sold for on the market. This is some kind of genome project. I think they are trying tomake it easier to find out what parents you need to make certain Kitties. I use this site to get an accurate Kitty population analysis. Kittyexplorer does this also, but Cyptokittydex is more accurate and up to date. You can find out how rare Cattributes are and how many of each fancy exists. Remember to follow, upvote, resteem, and comment with your KittyWallet Address I found a upvote/follower exchange that gives you 2X your upvote value(if your a minnow). Its called SteemFollower in fact, this post is being upvoted by SteemFollower give it a try. Follow me @brittuf for more buy signals or @TravelinBit on twitter I make all buys that I post and I sell at 10% profit Continue reading >>

Enough Already: Billionaire Mike Novogratz Says Bitcoin Core is BTC Join our community of 10 000 traders on Hacked.com for just $39 per month. Thats the message that billionaire Mike Novogratz had for the @Bitcoin Twitter account, whose operator has lately hopped on the Bitcoin Cash is Bitcoin bandwagon. Responding to a post that claimed Bitcoin Cash is the oldest cryptocurrency and that BTC is an experimental currency that is essentially two years old, Novogratz shot back that Bitcoin core is BTC. Enough already. Bitcoin core is BTC. It is a store of value. It is digital gold. Its market cap dwarfs bitcoin cash. If you want to be a payments currency by definition you need to have stable value. So why own it? The former Fortress partner, who recently raised $250 million to establish Canada-based cryptocurrency merchant bank Galaxy Digital , further argued that bitcoin is analogous to gold, an asset that is virtually never used for payments in the modern world. When is the last time you bought something with gold? No one does. Its just a store of value. Novogratzs comments on whether BTC or BCH is the true heir to the Bitcoin mantle come as the dispute between the two factions has been steadily heating up. Recently, Roger Ver s Bitcoin.com stoked the flames by altering its block explorer to list BCH as Bitcoin and BTC as Bitcoin Core. This, unsurprisingly, sparked an enormous backlash from critics of Bitcoin Cash many of whom derisively refer to it as Bcash and a cohort launched a campaign to initiate a class-action lawsuit against Ver. This initiative proved to be short-lived, however, as the legal fund failed to garner enough donations to get the campaign off the ground. Even so, it was apparently successful in one respect, as Bitcoin.com quietly reversed the change i Continue reading >>

Possible 2018 Changes That Could Transform The Blockchain World

Possible 2018 Changes That Could Transform The Blockchain World

Possible 2018 changes that could transform the blockchain world The world of cryptocurrency is continually changing, so predictions are often difficult to make. However, there are a few topics and predictions on the horizon that could have a significant impact on the blockchain world. The Lightning Network. If Lightning works, Bitcoin regains its prominence as a cryptocurrency. If it doesnt work, Bitcoin Cash rises in popularity. Either way, Lightning has a significant role in the future of the crypto coin. Privacy. As users begin to distinguish between anonymity and pseudonymity, competition for a more secure currency may intensify. Crypto-AIs. Last month, SingularityNets ICO, AI-as-a-Service, sold out in under a minute. If this is any indication of the trend to come, then more AI startups, attracting more high-dollar developers, are on the horizon. Ethereum. CryptoKitties was huge and significantly impacted the Ethereum network. The challenge resulting in the popularity of CryptoKitties will either be a stumbling block for the currency or an amazing opportunity for growth. Either way, Ethereum will set a standardas a model to follow or as a model to learn from. Crypto Valleys. Currently, there is one in Zug, Switzerland, and many other countries have expressed interest as well. Crypto Valleys may be a way for countries to quickly improve their economies, and we may see a few pop up this year. Crypto going mainstream. Its happening, and retail brokers are already getting on board with the technology. As the year progresses, we will continue to see the growth of crypto exchanges and the mainstream popularity of cryptocurrency. ICOs going mainstream. Indiegogo is on board with plans for ICOs early this year. As they succeed, moremainstream adoption will surely follow. R Continue reading >>

Zcash Privacy Weakened By Certain Behaviors, Researchers Say

Zcash Privacy Weakened By Certain Behaviors, Researchers Say

Zcash Privacy Weakened by Certain Behaviors, Researchers Say Researchers have identified patterns in certain kinds of zcash transactions that weaken their anonymity, according to a paper published Tuesday. George Kappos, Haaroon Yousaf, Mary Maller and Sarah Meiklejohn found that when coins move from unshielded to shielded and back to unshielded addresses, they lose much of the anonymity that zcash users expect. The University College London team wrote that their relatively simple heuristics reduce the size of the overall anonymity set by 69.1 percent. Zcash, one of the most prominent and well-regarded privacy coins, offers two kinds of addresses: t-addresses are transparent or unshielded, meaning that their balances and transactions are publicly visible on the blockchain; z-addresses are shielded, meaning that their balances and transactions are invisible. Transactions from one unshielded address to another are completely public, if pseudonymous, as in bitcoin. Transactions from one shielded address to another are almost completely invisible, showing only the timestamps and fees associated with mining. Transactions between different types of addresses introduce complications, however, making it possible to glean some information about the z-addresses involved, according to the paper. Part of the reason is behavioral, the authors explain. Our heuristics would have been significantly less effective if the founders interacting with the pool behaved in a less regular fashion, they write. In particular, by always withdrawing the same amount in the same time intervals, it became possible to distinguish founders withdrawing funds from other users. The reason for these transactions and similar ones performed by miners is that zcash coins are required to pass through the shiel Continue reading >>

The Solidity Contract-Oriented Programming Langauge I have stupid question - in my contract I have code like that: var (timeOfRequest, tokenAmount, weiRemainder, bonus) = getTokensForContribution(msg.value); var is deprecated - how should I declare multiple return tuple? @willnwhite what are you trying to achieve with your enum? @mishaalj Or you can find an existing address that has Ownable and use it. @mishaalj pretty sure that's illegal (see the 'Medium Severity' section under this audit ) @_SalesMeister_twitter tons of free ones out there @chuacw @OTTTO I want set to have a uint256 value, like set 1, and for unset to represent the uninitialised uint (0). I need a little bit of help w/ a basic crowdsale contract... I'm looking at the OpenZeppelin one: How do I specify the startTime, endTime, and cap ? It's never hardcoded anywhere in that code... Do I specify it when I deploy the contract? @mcdee i know he wanted to access A's method from B but i just suggested him that what should be possible , i think @jebuske miss understood the exercise @indrajitsinh he wanted to access A's method from B I'd prefer to hardcode it. Is there any problem with that ? @craze3 Look at CappedCrowdsale.sol. SampleCrowdsale inherits from it. @craze3 you can create a new Contract like contract MyContract is SampleCrowdsale and then in your MyContract constructor provide hardcoded value or you can define parameters as well @indrajitsinh Instead of extending SampleCrowdsale, I'm just going to modify it w/ the hardcoded values @craze3 You can hardcode it. Bytecoin Binance Listing The Most Coordonated Pump And Dump Of 2018?

By UseTheBitcoin in Cryptocurrency News Home Since the beginning of the article Id like to mention that the facts that I will present dont have any valid proof behind it and its just my speculation regarding what just happened with the BCN price. As you may know, today Binance announced that they listed BCN. As UseTheBitcon reported , the price skyrocketed to 114% on all exchanges. Whats more interesting is that the price on Binance is actually 10x bigger than the one reported by CoinMarketCap. How? Lets get started. The story of how BCN grow 32 times in less than one day First, a small part of the community knew about the BCN Binance listing. And it wasnt hard to figure out at all; Crypto_Ed_NL actually pointed this out on May the 3rd. Five days is a long time, enough time to create a coordinated pump and dump on a massive level. Im not blaming Crypto_Ed_NL here, if youre following him you probably know that hes a respected crypto OG with a lot of experience behind. As this reddit user pointed out, BCN was trading around 72 satoshi on HitBTC and Poloniex earlier today, before the Binance listing news. Then, Binance announced that they officially listed BCN and the things started to get out of hand. The listing price started at about 280 satoshi which later grew to 2300 satoshi. At this price, BCN would have been a top 5 cryptocurrency. An insane thing to image for a cryptocurrency like BCN. Now, how is it possible to grow so much in such a short period of time? Well, the BCN team didnt announce the community beforehand that they were going to be listed on a major exchange, they only uploaded just this post and bragging with an increase in price . Isnt this a little shady? What important news could pump the price of BCN 50%? Firstly, lets check what Satekroketje notice Continue reading >>
