Gpu Mining - Why Is There Only One Gpu Miner For Nvidia Cards? - Monero Stack Exchange

Why is there only one GPU miner for NVIDIA cards? I've just started mining (0.8 XMR so far, woo!) with some NVidia cards (4x GTX750ti), mainly due to the low power draw. As far as I know, the only GPU miner for the cryptonight algorithm is ccminer-cryptonight . I know there are a couple of forks, such as this one by KlausT but considering there are a few different options for AMD GPU mining, and CPU mining, I'm surprised there isn't at least one alternative. FWIW, I'm happy with ccminer, I just think it's good to be able to compare miners for efficiency and ease of use, etc. Is there a reason for this or is it just that ccminer works well so why make another? Are you sure? It looks like the 3500 XMR bounty is still available for future developers. CQM Oct 12 '16 at 20:52 This problem is a symptom of a larger issue, namely why any developer would give something away for free and maintain it through driver cycles when they could instead program their own version that is significantly better than the others and make a lot of money mining, or make a lot of money by selling their miner to a mining conglomerate who includes a clause in their contact that gives them exclusive use of the code. People like Claymore, who codes one of the ATI mining software options, are few and far between, particularly for an altcoin like Monero. Coding mining software requires a great degree of technical skill, yet almost all of those who already have a free version but still want somewhat faster software are unwilling to pay for it. That mismatch is the crux of the problem. Continue reading >>

Cryptonight Algorithm Mining Software Overview And Comparison

Cryptonight Algorithm Mining Software Overview And Comparison

Cryptonight is a Proof-of-Work algorithm which is used by a number of privacy coins such as Monero, Electroneum and Bytecoin and can mined using computer CPUs and GPUs. In this article, we will examine most of the Cryptonight mining software, so readers will have a better understanding of each of the software, and can make a more educated decision on which one they want to use. This article is not trying to figure out which software is the best, since that needs to be determined by each individual miner, based on the features they want in a mining software. This article is more of a case study, overview of most of the Cryptonight mining software, as well as a how to, to be able to test them out for yourself. Any opinions or speed benchmarks presented in this article are just opinions, and rough estimations. They are not facts. Most likely, everyones mining setup will give different speed benchmarks, even if you have the same hardware and software setup that I am using. For the test setup, I will be using Windows 10, with 3 Vega64 GPUs. As for the drivers, I am using the Blockchain drivers at I will be mining Electroneum during this test and using as my mining pool. Currently I am using XMR-Stak, because I felt this mining software had the features I was looking for. I was curious though to see how well it performed against other mining software, and I wanted to also do more research on the features of the other mining software. Features I was looking for in the mining software Personally, my main priority was to find the fastest mining software. I also wanted the ability to remotely monitor if the miner was still running, and what speed it was running at. I do like the idea of open source software, but I mainly wanted the fastest miner. I also did not really care about Continue reading >>

How to mine CryptoNote currencies? Cryptonote algorithm based cryptocurrencies, it relies on Ring Signatures in order to provide a certain degree of privacy when making a transaction. CryptoNote is a Proof of Work cryptocurrency that can be miner with computational power from a CPU or GPU. There are currently no ASICs for Monero, which means that anyone with a computer can mine it! The first thing you need to think about is if you are going to mine solo or on a pool. Mining on a pool usually comes with a fee but also has it's advantages. Users that don't have enough computational power may have to wait long periods of time before getting a reward, in a pool users pull their efforts together in order to reduce variance and have a steady flow of income. Download Wallet! Get the latest version of Ethereum Mist Wallet Here! How to Mine Electroneum (ETN) with AMD & Nvidia GPU / CPU Hey people, is time for 1stminingrig to get back on track Past few weeks I was super busy setting up the workshop and I didnt really have the time to create new content. However, now that the workshop is up and running, it is finally time for some fresh tutorials. Ive been thinking of starting by posting a tutorial about how to mine Electroneum both with CPU and AMD/Nvidia GPUs. In fact, one of my rigs has been already mining ETN for some time now and as for today, everything looks pretty solid. Electroneum is a cryptocurrency with its own blockchain, as well as a fully-integrated mobile platform. Its main aim is to become a Bitcoin alternative with a couple of improvements, as well as a user-friendly platform where everyone can mine, trade and transfer the tokens without the need to have any prior tech knowledge. In my opinion, Electroneum has got what it takes to soon be considered a viable Bitcoin alternative. Here are some of its already existent features worth mentioning: Its transaction speed and security are as good as Bitcoins (and some even claim that Electroneum is safer than Bitcoin) It can be stored both on the cloud and in offline wallets Its team of developers is rather impressive. Comprised of professional engineers, entrepreneurs and marketers, the team behind Electroneum makes me believe the project is all but a money grab. It can be easily mined from a phone or any other device In Brief, Electroneum coin has a lot of similarities with Bitcoin, though it is based on its own blockchain. While that alone is great, the selling point is in its platform. Lets take a look at it: Electroneum platform is the meat of the project. Thank Continue reading >>

Holy Nerdvana: Mining Cryptonote Coins With Nvidia - Settings And Performance

Mining CryptoNote Coins with NVIDIA - Settings and Performance [Update: You can also just use Nicehash , with there auto-switching NiceHashMiner. That's what I'm doing these days, and it pays out in BTC.] I'm going to assume most people are already aware of the AMD GPU miner for CryptoNote coins, so I'm not going to discuss that for now -- though it's probably worth its own post in the near future. Instead, I want to look at mining CryptoNote coins with NVIDIA hardware, since we now have an open source (thanks TSIV!) version of ccMiner for just that purpose. First things first, grab the Windows binaries (or if you're doing Linux, use the source code and compile it). But now that you have the executable, how do you get it running? The good news is that all of the CryptoNote coins that I've looked at where you can use a pool just rely on your wallet's address. As Monero is currently the most profitable of the coins (AFAICT), I'm going to use that as my example, but other CryptoNote coins should be similar in practice. Before you can get mining, you'll need the wallet, and you'll want to download and sync with the blockchain. For Monero, that means grabbing the latest files and then running them. Assuming this is your first time running, do the following: Download the wallet and daemon files and extract them to an appropriate folder (e.g. C:\Mining\Monero). You'll save yourself a lot of time by downloading the partial blockchain that's available on the main thread -- get the appropriate chain for Windows, OS X, or Linux (64-bit only), or else you'll just need to run the daemon and wait for it to finish syncing (which can take hours the first time). For Windows, put the blockchain.bin file in%AppData%/bitmonero; on Linux/OS X put the blockchain.bin in~/.bitmonero. Now star Continue reading >>

Presenting Claymore miner v11.9 with improved mining and bugs fixed. fixed issue with incorrect shares for Keccak. TESTED NVIDIA DRIVERS (other versions are untested, they can be worse or better): 9xx cards in Windows 7 x64: just use latest/recent drivers from Nvidia website (for example, 368.81). Note that latest 372.54 is slower than 368.81. 9xx cards in Windows 10 x64: you have to use old drivers (for example, 352.xx) and miner built for cuda6.5. 10xx cards in Windows 7 x64: just use latest 372.54 drivers from Nvidia website. 10xx cards in Windows 10 x64: just use latest 372.54 drivers from Nvidia website, note that you must have Win10 Anniversary update. Supports new dual mining mode: mining both Ethereum and Decred/Siacoin/Lbry/Pascal at the same time, with no impact on Ethereum mining speed. Ethereum-only mining mode is supported as well. Effective Ethereum mining speed is higher by 3-5% because of a completely different miner code much less invalid and outdated shares, higher GPU load, optimized OpenCL code, optimized assembler kernels. Supports both AMD and nVidia cards, even mixed. Supports all Stratum versions for Ethereum: can be used directly without any proxies with all pools that support eth-proxy, qtminer or miner-proxy. Klaust Ccminer Cryptonight Nvidia V3.02 Cryptonight V3, V7, V8

Facebook Twitter Google+ LinkedIn Pinterest Reddit Monero and many other CryptoNote coins have changed their PoW algorithm in order to resist ASICs. During the fork we made a guide on xmr stak which was the only all in one miner that is supporting all new cryptonight algorithms. Later on couple of miners became available such as XMrig, Claymore etc. While all these miners only supports AMD hardware there were none available particularly for CUDA based GPUs. Well, now there is a KlausT version of ccminer available for NVIDIA. It was released a couple weeks back and we totally failed to mention it. This post is about cryptonight ccminer which supports new cryptonight algorithm such as V3, V7 and V8. KlausT ccminer cryptonight v3.02 v3, v7, v8 This miner is forked from tsiv/ccminer-cryptonight which is a fork of tpruvot miner . It is modded and optimized to get the maximum performance out of NVIDIA GPUs. The latest release of this miner supports Cryptonight V3, V7 and V8. That is you can use this miner to mine Monero, Electroneum, Stellite , Graft, IPBC or any coins that uses v3, v7 and v8. However it still lacks support for cryptonight heavy and cryptonight light algorithm so this cant be used to mine coins such as Sumo, Aeon etc. This miner is open source, there is no fee and it works with both Windows and Linux. It supports up to 16 GPUs by default. Also it has fixed illegal memory access errors and some other minor bug fixes which was found in previous versions. If you have a dedicated NVIDIA mining rig then try this miner, you should really see improved hashrates. Alternatively you can also try nicehash /excavator which is another CUDA miner that supports CryptoNightV7. However that is still in alpha stage. Download Nicehash / Excavator: If you were previously using Continue reading >>
