Reddit: The Front Page Of The Internet

I look forward to pulling a copy of this magazine out of my briefcase/backpack the next time I introduce someone to Bitcoin. A lot of people that I introduce Bitcoin to are skeptical because they have never heard of it, it can sound like an underground scam, and it's a pie-in-the-sky "cyber thing" with no physical existence (which is a big deal for some people). When I mention that it's been mentioned in the NY Times, Wired magazine, etc., that helps a lot. But handing them a physical magazine could do a lot to make Bitcoin physical and real, and take it immediately to a place in their mind where this is something that a lot of people are taking seriously -- so they can too. This magazine is worth buying a few copies for that reason alone. 3 points 6 years ago edited 6 years ago I'm a little confused. I want to get a 12 month subscription, and while I don't want to miss the first issue, I don't have enough to buy the 12 month right now. Should I just buy 1 issue now, and then get the next issues later? (I'm not sure if, by doing that, I risk missing an issue or getting a duplicate). Also, is anyone thinking of buying their subcriptions every 3 months, so they can get as many of these "surprise gifts" as possible? I just realized that doing that would make me an asshole. It's much easier to collect payments for a printed magazine than to try and collect money for a e-zine or website. I would think that is obvious to anyone. Actually, Amazon and Apple are doing a pretty good job at collecting electronic payments for digital subscriptions and The New York Times is having great success collecting money for access to their site. But, that's not the point... I have nothing against print, I just couldn't help pointing out the irony. I have a couple print magazine subscription Continue reading >>

CDX Brings Inaugural Blockchain Summit to New York The Chief Digital Officer Global Forum (CDX) summit series is gearing up for its next installation in New York. Established in 2013, the summit has set up shop in Chicago, San Francisco, Singapore and, most recently, Las Vegas, with focuses on emerging innovations in mobile, IoT and digital advertising technologies. To be held on May 11, 2018, in Columbia Universitys Lerner Hall, this latest installment will concentrate on advancements in blockchain technology and its application to traditional industries. To this end, the CDX Blockchain Brand Innovation Summit has an extensive list of speakers and panelists both from within and without the blockchain space, featuring representatives from the likes of Hulu, CNBC, IBM and BTC Media. CDX has always focused on digital business transformation even when it wasnt such a catch-phrase, Drew Ianni, CDXs founder and event chairman, told Bitcoin Magazine in an interview. And certainly blockchain [technology] holds a lot of promise in regard to driving digital business transformation across a range of industries so we decided to stage a show on blockchain to help our attendees learn more about its potential, he continued. Ianni and CDX have spurred the summit forth at a time when anything to the tune of crypto has reached a fever pitch in popular culture. But to Ianni, this conference isnt about capitalizing on cryptocurrencys meteoric popularity; its about staying informed. [When] you have an emerging technology that is developing quickly and fueling a massive hype cycle, industry education is whats needed most, he expressed to Bitcoin Magazine. For such education to be effective, Ianni was careful to not pack the agenda with a group of pure blockchain cheerleaders. The overall g Continue reading >>

After spending a year in prison, Bitcoin pioneer Charlie Shrem has a new job and a new mission: Strengthening the ecosystem of blockchain assetsand, just maybe, helping build the future of the Internet. Yes, its driven by greed but the mania for cryptocurrency could wind up building something much more important than wealth. layer innocent nothing argue pottery winner cotton menu task slim merge maid The sequence of words is meaningless: a random array strung together by an algorithm let loose in an English dictionary. What makes them valuable is that theyve been generated exclusively for me, by a software tool called MetaMask. In the lingo of cryptography, theyre known as my seed phrase. They might read like an incoherent stream of consciousness, but these words can be transformed into a key that unlocks a digital bank account, or even an online identity. It just takes a few more steps. On the screen, Im instructed to keep my seed phrase secure: Write it down, or keep it in a secure place on your computer. I scribble the 12 words onto a notepad, click a button and my seed phrase is transformed into a string of 64 seemingly patternless characters: 1b0be2162cedb2744d016943bb14e71de6af95a63af3790d6b41b1e719dc5c66 This is whats called a private key in the world of cryptography: a way of proving identity, in the same, limited way that real-world keys attest to your identity when you unlock your front door. My seed phrase will generate that exact sequence of characters every time, but theres no known way to reverse-engineer the original phrase from the key, which is why it is so important to keep the seed phrase in a safe location. That private key number is then run through two additional transformations, creating a new string: 0x6c2ecd6388c550e8d99ada34a1cd55bedd052ad9 That string is my address on the Ethereum blockchain.
