This movie is my first Vietnamese movie ever! Recently I watched a movie from Vietnam, Bitcoins Heist . It was valuable to mention about it. This film was my first Vietnamese movie. Actually I watched a lot of movie ABOUT Vietnam. And these are made by Americans. Born On The Fourth Of July, Platoon, Rambo, etc. Actually, I watched a lot of movies about Vietnam War, but I never watched movie made by Vietnamese people. // The movie Bitcoin Heist is very interesting because the story is about future of Vietnam. In the future, Vietnamese can use bitcoin so easily. As we know, bitcoin is not actual money for now. It's kind of imaginary currency. But they Vietnamese treat Bitcoin as a actual money in the future in this movie. I really surprised this movie is so creative and imaginative. // The actress SUBOI is very attractive actress in this movie. I found out she is very famous rapper in Vietnam. When Obama, the president of U.S.A, visited Vietnam, she performed rap-battle with Obama. I really surprised her English was so fluent. She is very attractive and sexy movie star, I think, I hope she can act in Korean movie in future. // Finally, I was very interested because one Korean guy acted a bad guy in this movie. His character was Korean financial swindler. He called Ghost and 'Yoo-Ryeng'. As we know, 'Yoo-Ryeng' means Korean Ghost (). While watching this movie, I asked myself hundreds of times : "Why they Vietnamese describe Korean guy as a bad swindler?" But that guy is very attractive bad guy, he is handsome and rich. Furthermore, he can speak English and German and Korean very fluently. Any women can avoid falling in love with him at first sight, I think. I guess some Vietnamese people think Korean guy is very dangerous but attractive(It is just my personal opinion, DON Continue reading >>

Bitcoin Heist Review: Is De Eerste Bitcoin-film Een Pareltje?

Interview With Bitcoin Heist Producer And Star

Interview With Bitcoin Heist Producer And Star

Interview with Bitcoin Heist Producer and Star Interview with Suboi, Lead Actress of Bitcoin Heist 1. Bitcoin Heist is the first major cinematic action thriller set in modern Viet Nam. Can you tell me how this film differs from other Vietnamese films that you have worked on? First I would like to look at Bitcoin as a movie fan and its obviously a new type of genre for a Vietnamese film. The first movie that I ever worked on was ot Hn/Hollow and from what I see, Ham Tran is someone who wants to make a difference. He is bringing genres and themes that you typically see in Hollywood films and using them for local Vietnamese films. I like that because he is trying to make Vietnamese cinema grow and become different. 2. Bitcoin Heist features many different characters of diverse skill sets. What was it like working with the other cast and crew members? Everything is kind of new to me. Working in music, especially being a solo rapper, I didnt get a chance to work with so many people where everything has to sync at the same time. I earned good friendships with people who are truly passionate about their path, and they are special in every way. It opened me to other creative people who work in different fields acting, producing, set building, even magic! It was a lot of hard work but it was fun to collaborate with artists too. 3. Following Hollow, another film which you also worked with director, Ham Tran; this is your first major leading role. What was it like preparing yourself for the role and working with Ham? When Ham asked me to do a workshop with him, I thought he would give me some acting lessons but he didnt. He made sure to spend time with actors and actresses, especially when they are new, to find their own way in creating their characters. I am lucky since Ham wrot Continue reading >>

A Chat With Ham Tran, Director Of Bitcoin Heist

A Chat With Ham Tran, Director Of Bitcoin Heist

A chat with Ham Tran, director of Bitcoin Heist Bitcoin Heist was a Vietnamese heist movie, released in February 2016. The film was about a team of skilled criminals and a special agent on the hunt for one of Interpols most wanted criminals, who uses Bitcoin as the mean of conducting crime. Today, we have a chance to talk with Ham Tran, the director of the movie, and take a look back at what was the first Bitcoin action movie ever, not only in Vietnam, but also in the world. Bitcoin Vietnam (BV): How did you get the idea of making Bitcoin Heist? Ham Tran: It was back in 2013. I got the idea of the movie from my best friend Scott, who had been mining Bitcoin since 2009. It was when I had just finished my horror film Hollow, we were having coffee and he told me how he just helped his friend reset his whole system because he was hacked by CryptoLocker. I was like: Wait! What was that? And he said: You went to a website and it hacked into your system and locked all your files and asked for some ransom in Bitcoin. And I was like: What is Bitcoin? And he was like: You dont know anything about Bitcoin yet? He then told me about Bitcoin and I immediately thought that it could be a great background story for a heist movie. It was actually something that I can work to put into a film. And I spent many many weekends of meetings and coffee with Scott to set up the whole story for Bitcoin Heist. He was basically my consultant for this film. BV: At that time had you believed in Bitcoin yet? Ham Tran: Scott convinced me.I remembered I went home and talked to my brother and he was like: Whatever, cryptocurrency is not gonna happen. I was like: You just watch, man. But a few months later then, Mt. Gox happened so he was like: See! I told you its unstable, right.I remember writing the s Continue reading >>

Vietnams very own version of Oceans Eleven Probably one of the most Hollywood-like productions coming out of Asia, Bitcoin Heist is a film destined to succeed, at least commercially. Special agent Dada is set on catching Interpols most wanted hacker, an individual who calls himself The Ghost, and has made a fortune in Bitcoins, through ransomware. She orchestrates a large operation targeting two of Ghosts associates, his accountant named Phuc and one of his henchwomen, Ky. The mission goes horribly wrong, ending up with Ky and a number of police officers dead, and Phuc in custody. Furthermore, during the operation, a hacker ends up in a coma after he succeeded in stealing 30.000 bitcoins from Kys phone. His sister, Vi, also a hacker, barely survives and has to tend to her brother. Dada decides to go after The Ghost without the help of the police and in that purpose, she assembles a group of skilled thieves and criminals of every kind to help her. The team includes Jack Magique, a professional magician and pickpocket, but also her former boyfriend; a forger named Luhan and his little daughter Linh, who has acrobatic skills and is also a thief; Phuc and Vi, who is set on revenge for her brother. Their target is Thomas, a Korean-German bon viveur, whom they have identified as The Ghost. All of them together conceive an intricate plan in order to surpass his safety measures and receive proof of his wrongdoings. Ham Tran directs, pens, and edits a film very similar to Oceans Eleven, both in script and aesthetics, with the obvious purpose of commercial success. In that fashion, the script entails sexy women with guns, handsome protagonists, some comic relief scenes, a cute girl, gunfights, a boat chase, explosions, a plot twist, some romance, and a little drama, in a true pa Continue reading >>

Bitcoin Heist Review

Date: August 3, 2016 Author: Nick Askam 0 Comments This film is the last that I will be reviewing for Asian Film Festival of Dallas. I had a blast and hopefully Ill be given the opportunity to do this next year. I was thrilled to see so many different types of films and it really opened my eyes to current Asian Film. I didnt know what to expect before sitting down and watching any of the films. I can say that I will definitely drag more of my friends along next year. Anyways, on to the review. Bitcoin Heist falls under my guilty pleasure movies. Its set up a little like Now You See Me, but its in Vietnam instead of California. Its about this cop, Dada, whos trying to take down this guy who runs an exchange in Bitcoins. Bitcoins are illegal and are a worldwide, online currency so people can trade them without government supervision. The guy who gets caught ends up helping the cop because he gives her a chance to take out the head guy. His partner gets shot by this a shop owner and his sister, Vi. The shop owner gets shot in the exchange and the sister joins the team of the cop. An older man and his daughter are recruited along with a magician named Magic Jack. So now the team is in charge to take down this crime syndicate and restore order in the law. First, they go after this dude, Thomas, running a video game company. (Im sorry I cant remember their names). All of the characters have great chemistry with one another. I was most impressed with Jacks performance because he effortlessly pulled it off. To me, he had the charisma of a real magician. I thought his sleight of hand tricks were great as well. There are a view tricks that are obviously movie camera magic but I liked them overall. I liked the connection between the little girl and Magic Jack too. It was a nice c Continue reading >>

Bitcoin Heist (2016) Directed By Ham Tran Reviews, Film + Cast Letterboxd

Feels like a foreign version of the Ocean's movies because this is every bit as slick, outlandish, and fun as those. However, the writing here is less than stellar, the comedy scarcely works, the plot is predictable at best, and some of the editing/sound design can be very distracting and annoying. They clearly only have an inkling of an idea of what a Bitcoin actually is, but it doesn't really matter. In fact, at times it feels like a parody of itself. Bitcoin Heist is an enjoyable heist movie without many dull moments. It's on Netflix, so check it out! Bitcoin Heist is a movie that surprisingly doesn't mention the word "blockchain" even once, but features a "League of Legends champion" who is also a hacker. To be absolutely clear: in no way is this a good movie. The action, the heists, and all the product placement are really dumb and low-budget, and the plot is more often confusing than clever. Despite that, it's easy to enjoy and laugh at all the little surprises and twists it managed to pack in. It has that Bad Boys 2 quality of going places when you least expect it. Totally a drunk movie night kind of watch. Feels like a foreign version of the Ocean's movies because this is every bit as slick, outlandish, and fun as those. Review: Bitcoin Heist (vietnam, 2016)

Review: Bitcoin Heist (vietnam, 2016)

Explore and connect the world through a cinematic lens "Bitcoin Heist" is an action-packed digital heist movie that showcases Vietnam's modernity. Truth be told, Bitcoin Heist is the first Vietnamese movie Ive seen. Despite having a population of 90 million, Vietnam has only recently started making blockbusters that can hold their own against imports, thanks in part to returning diaspora talent. Bitcoin Heist appears to be part of that trend. Helmed by Vietnamese-American director Ham Tran, the film is a rollicking action-thriller that showcases a vibrant, modern Vietnam in the process. Bitcoin Heist is like a combination of Oceans Eleven and Now You See Me, but with bitcoin. The films main character is Dada (Kate Nhung), an Interpol agent who assembles an unconventional team of criminals in order to nab a digital currency-laundering mobster called The Ghost. Dadas team includes a middle-aged forger and his cat-thief daughter, a mob accountant, a female hacker/pro-gamer (played by rapper performed for Barack Obama), and a flamboyant magician/pickpocket (played by Vietnamese-Australian Petey Majik Nguyen, whos an actual magician). You definitely dont need to be a digital currency enthusiast or even know what bitcoin is to enjoy Bitcoin Heist. If anything, the usage of bitcoin as a plot device is more a signal of the films aspirations at modernity. Such aspirations are, intentionally or not, reflective of Vietnams own. After three decades of economic liberalization and socialist-oriented market economy, Vietnam is starting to imagine itself within the same club as economically ascendant, technologically advanced Asian countries like South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Being a member of this club requires a certain level of cultural sophistication, a certain cosmopolitan life Continue reading >>

Oceans Eleven Vietnam style! Action thriller Kate Nhung, Thanh Pham, Petey Majik Nguyen Emerging Vietnamese director Ham Tran would signal his position of one of young East Asian film directors to keep an eye on with the stylish action comedy caper movie Bitcoin Heist. Purporting to be the first film in the world to feature the controversial cyber currency, this really is a McGuffin for the films real objective to produce an ultra-slick, stylish action vehicle with all the panache and bravado of any self-respecting Hollywood blockbuster. Bitcoin Heist (2016) Review

Bitcoin Heist (2016) Review

Bitcoin Heist | Blu-ray & DVD (Well Go USA) Cast: Kate Nhung, Thanh Pham, Petey Majik Nguyen,Suboi, Jayvee Mai, Lam Thanh My, Teo Yoo, Veronica Ngo Before we get to talking about what kind of movieBitcoin Heistis, Im going to start off the same way that the film does by attempting to explain what bitcoins are. Bitcoins are a digital currency with no central repository and no national fingerprint. Its a peer-to-peer exchange system with a public digital ledger that all users are expected to help maintain. Bitcoins are encrypted and untraceable, as far as I understand, and are a favorite form of currency on the Dark Web for hackers and all manner of other secretive professions. Bitcoins are flashy, mysterious, and new to the general public. And were just starting to hear more about Ransom Ware and the Dark Web this year in the news. All three of these new internet-based concepts figure into the Vietnamese thrillerBitcoin Heist. And in that respect, I gotta give writer/editor/director Ham Tran (Journey from the Fall) some credit, because hisBitcoin Heistmakes pretty good use of the new tech to tell his story. With the exception of perhaps TVsMr. Robot, Im unaware of other dramas that have featured the tech so prevalently for storytelling purposes. Its the sort of thing you can imagine Hollywood couldve gotten on top of, thrown an A-List movie star on the poster, and called it topical and timely. InBitcoin Heist, a dangerous Dark Web millionaire known as the Ghost is being tracked by Detective Dada (Kate Nhung). She manages to catch the Ghosts accountant, Phuc (Thanh Pham), but not without getting into a shootout that claims the lives of multiple officers and suspects. The police chief who is also Dadas dad takes her badge and gun, saying it was a meaningless sacrifice con Continue reading >>
