If he ever pays any significant amount it will be certainly only at a much higher USD/BTC exchange rate - allowing him to retain most of his fraudulently obtained BTC. This argument makes no sense. The USD/BTC exchange rate can either go up or down. Fixing the debt at a given USD/BTC rate is the logical thing to do, not having done that sooner was a mistake. Trump Bans Us Use Of Venezuelan Cryptocurrency

Trump Bans Us Use Of Venezuelan Cryptocurrency

Trump bans US use of Venezuelan cryptocurrency WASHINGTON (AP) The Trump administration on Monday banned all use by Americans of Venezuelan cryptocurrency, saying that its introduction is intended to skirt U.S. sanctions. In a separate move, the administration also slapped sanctions on four current and former senior Venezuelan officials accused of corruption and mismanagement. Venezuelan officials condemned the ban, its president suggesting charges of a "crime against humanity" could be pursued against the U.S. In an executive order that took effect immediately upon its issuance, President Donald Trump declared illegal all U.S. transactions related to Venezuelan digital currencies, coins or tokens. The prohibition applies to all people and companies subject to U.S. jurisdiction. The move follows the introduction last month of a Venezuelan cryptocurrency known as the "petro," for which the government says it has received investment commitments of $5 billion. In the executive order, Trump said it was an "attempt to circumvent U.S. sanctions" imposed for democratic backsliding. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro issued a statement saying the unilateral sanctions violate the U.N. Charter "and the most elemental principles of international law." He said charges of a "crime against humanity" could be presented to the World Court. Diosdado Cabello, the powerful vice president of the ruling socialist party, accused "Emperor Trump" of trying to extend the financial "blockade" of Venezuela. "It's not going to be easy to execute," Cabello said in a press conference in Caracas. "But that's what the imperialists do, they try to instill fear and scare the free people of the world." The Treasury had said in January that the petro appeared to be an extension of credit to Venezuela an Continue reading >>

In many countries the ISO codes for the more common currencies are so well known publicly that exchange rates published in newspapers or posted in banks use only these to delineate the different currencies, instead of translated currency names or ambiguous currency symbols . Understanding Taxation Of Bitcoin In India

Understanding Taxation of Bitcoin in India Understanding Taxation of Bitcoin in India Published: Friday, October 27, 2017, 13:28 [IST] Bitcoin is being invested in for gains as well as some of the tech savvy even accepted them for payments or financial consideration for the goods and services even in India. Though this is still to gain pace in India in coming times as still practically the landscape for its acceptance is not established yet. Understanding Taxation of Bitcoin in India So, tax on a bitcoin tramsaction arises either by way of capital gains tax when the investor earns profit due to appreciation in its price. Recently the bitcoin surged to highs of 3.5 lakh rupees. And the other is when a trader accepts payment in bitcoins. Taxation when goods or service are bartered for bitcoins or business income for bitcoins To understand it better here is an illustration say when you as a tech freak or a provider of some service to a foreign nation receives the fee in lieu of the same as bitcoin, Indian law provides that even such receipts are taxable. For it profits to you are arrived at by accounting for the bitcoin value in Indian rupees less the cost of goods or any deductible in respect of some service. The same profit is then taxed as per the individual's tax slab rate as per the Indian tax laws. Taxation implications also arise on conversion of bitcoins into Indian rupees As the adoption of bitcoins is still to gain ground in the Indian context, it may be a case that an individual may need to convert his or her bitcoin holding into Indian rupees and then use the same. In such a case, the bitcoin value in the rupee at the time when one received the cryptocurrency is factored in to arrive at the net tax liability. Say if the bitcoin at the time of receipt was value Continue reading >>

Bitcoin's 'death Cross' Could Spell Doom For Crypto Investors

Bitcoin's 'death Cross' Could Spell Doom For Crypto Investors

Bitcoin's 'death cross' could spell doom for crypto investors Bitcoin is at a death cross moment again. Photo / Bloomberg People who do so-called "technical analysis" on the pricing charts of stocks and other financial markets have a lot of funny names for things. There's the "dead cat bounce," a "reverse hockey stick," a "diamond top" or a "spinning top candle stick pattern" and plenty of other bewildering jargon. The colourful array of terms are meant to denote something supposedly significant, and in turn signal a potential near-term future. This week analysts have been making noise about bitcoin approaching one of these pseudoscientific warnings: a dreaded "death cross". A death cross is a bearish term associated with a downward market trend and occurs when the 50-day (short-term) moving average of a stock price crosses below the 200-day (long-term) moving average. For a dedicated chartist, the death cross means things are heading south. While many cryptocurrency investors don't follow technical analysis, the popularity of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies means people have brought to bear this sort of analysis on the market. "There's been a definitive shift over the past couple of months after the bubble activity at the end of 2017," Paul Day, a technical analyst at Market Securities Dubai told Bloomberg last week. He is predicting a 76 per cent tumble from late February highs that would take the cryptocurrency under US$3,000. However while technical analysis has some avid followers, it's far from reliable. The last time the death cross pattern occurred for bitcoin was in September 2015. After that time, the bitcoin price rallied from around US$230 to US$500 by early November that year.
