5 Best Anonymous Bitcoin Wallets to Secure your Bitcoins 4,700 bitcoins stolen, so upwards of 90 million dollars. It sucks for them, but I find it amazing that possibly a single person just got away with that much $. My own university lost nearly 2 million dollars last year in a stunt similar to this. Hackers are the new bank robbers John Kellogg (@TheJohnKellogg) December 7, 2017 Over the years, Bitcoin has received its fair share of hacking and theft incidents that resulted in the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars! This has made it more important than ever to take every necessary measure to keep your digital currency safe, secure, and anonymous. Read on to learn all about this and more The Bitcoin world is plagued by theft incidents. For example, an Austrian man lost $117,000 worth of Bitcoin as soon as he connected to a public Wi-Fi network. Stories of multi-million dollar hacks have also made it to the headlines time and time again. Take, for instance, the downfall of Mt. Gox, which until February 2014 was the largest Bitcoin exchange in the world. Incidents like these raise the all-important question, Is Bitcoin safe to invest in? Well, the short answer is: yes. Its actually far more secure than other financial systems. Since Bitcoin uses a decentralized system, known as the blockchain, no centralized information exists for a hacker to exploit and compromise the network. They would need to control 51% of the network nodes to be able to walk away with everyones money, but this has proven to be an impossible task so far. Bitcoin theft and other mishaps, however, can occur if you dont secure your private keys which are needed to spend or transfer Bitcoins held within your wallet. Before we take a look at how you can fall victim to Bitcoin theft, lets discuss Bi Continue reading >>

Using Bitcoin Anonymously

Using Bitcoin Anonymously

You are at: Home Using Bitcoin Anonymously All Bitcoin transactions are stored in a public ledger called the blockchain. The data stored in each of these transactions includes a bitcoin payment amount and the Bitcoin addresses of the sender and the recipient (among other things). Because every transaction uses the bitcoins from a prior transaction, and the blockchain is public data, every Bitcoin payment has a traceable history that can be viewed by anyone. Bitcoin addresses are not themselves linked to a person or entity. Thats why Bitcoin is often called pseudonymous or pseudo-anonymous . However, a persons identity can be associated with a Bitcoin address through other means. Once that occurs, its possible to determine that persons transactions backward and forward through the blockchain history. A single anonymity breach can uncover an individuals entire Bitcoin transaction history. But how is an address linked with a person? Most commonly, the association occurs when people publish their name together with their Bitcoin address online. But there are plenty of other ways (take a look at the Top Seven Ways Your Identity Can Be Linked to Your Bitcoin Address ). Once the association has been made, a party with enough determination, time, and resources could analyze the blockchain and determine how many bitcoins an individual has, how they receive them, and how they spend them. To use Bitcoin anonymously, precautions need to be taken to prevent your true identity from being associated with your transactions and addresses. tl;dr; Bitcoin is not anonymous but it can be anonymous enough, if youre careful. Use a New Address for Every Incoming Transaction The first and easiest step is to use a new, unused address for every incoming transaction. Simply generating a new addre Continue reading >>

How To Use Bitcoin Anonymously

How To Use Bitcoin Anonymously

As you probably already know, bitcoin is not anonymous (this property was never part of its original design). Bitcoin transactions are chained together in a permanent public record. Analysis of the blockchain may reveal a lot information about your transactions [1] (e.g., recipients of your payments, addresses in your wallet or the balance of your wallet). The following sections contains everything you need to know in order to prevent such kind of blockchain analysis. There are currently three main methods how you can make your transactions more private. The first method is called CoinJoin [2] and is based on 'joining' your transactions with transactions of other users. Most advanced project based on this method is JoinMarket [3] . This method is very secure, but unfortunately not fully implemented yet. However, the development process continues and the user base is slowly growing. The second method is called Confidential Transactions [4] . In simple terms, this method encrypts amounts in your transactions and helps obfuscate chain of the transactions. This method is not yet part of bitcoin implementation, but may be implemented in the future. Figure 1: Basic workflow of a Bitcoin Mixing Service The oldest and most often used method is bitcoin mixing (see Figure 1) which works on similar basis as mix network [5] . The bitcoin mixer receives bitcoins to input addresses and sends out different amounts from different input address. This method requires trusting the mixer, but is sufficiently secure when used properly. Many of our users mix their bitcons for the first time. Because mixing your bitcoins properly requires to follow some simple rules, we decided to write a manual that will make this operation much easier. The first step is of course to get some bitcoins. The Complete Guide to Using Bitcoin Anonymously Around the Web Last updated on October 15th, 2017 at 10:03 am In one of our previous articles weve talked about how Bitcoin is not completely anonymous . Ever since weve been getting emails asking how to use Bitcoin anonymously around the web. So we now bring before you the complete guide to using Bitcoin anonymously. Raising your privacy level will lower your risk of getting hacked, scammed or targeted by criminals. Once mastered, spreading the awareness of such techniques will incrementally harden the Bitcoin network against attackers of all kinds. Bitcoins blockchain is built on rock-solid cryptography which prevents counterfeiting and other types of fraud but the human element in Bitcoin transaction is always theweakest link. Although itll never be necessary to verify your identify yourself in order to download and use a Bitcoin wallet, for the average user this is where the systems anonymity ends. Once your Bitcoin address becomes linked to your real identity a hard situation to avoid when doing business or receiving deliveries your anonymity is compromised for that address. Using an online pseudonym (Satoshi Nakomoto, for eg.) will improve your privacy but bear in mind that a capable investigator can identify you over a standard internet connection. Most Bitcoin wallets broadcast your real IP address , which can then be easily associated with your address(es). Bitcoin, its default state, should never be considered an anonymous (or even reasonably private) monetary system. Bitcoins pseudonymity is tenuous at best; easily compromised by basic net surveillance. Default Bitcoin is still far more private than credit cards but certainly less so than cash. This reality raises a number of issues for business and personal pr Continue reading >>

Chief Redditor of TumbleBit. Creator of HiddenWallet. I love pizza: bc1q32xe73texphk3cgu33cyw7dajky9u76qltcv6m Privacy is a fundamental human right. Fungibility is an essential property of good money. Anonymity is just another word forthat. As of February 2018, the path to anonymous Bitcoin is finally clear. While strong anonymity in itself was already achievable, no strategies could achieve it in a convenient and economical way. During 2017, new research and techniques were invented that pave the path to both convenient and cheap anonymity. Furthermore, it is just a matter of time that we get to the point, where anonymous transactions will be more economical, than transparent ones. Companies dedicated to deanonymize Bitcoin users apply two strategies: Broadcasting transactions in a private way is tricky. Today a privacy conscious developer can choose to utilize an anonymity network, like Tor . In January 2017 Dandelion was introduced, it eliminates the anonymity network dependency by implementing a private transaction broadcasting mechanism. You need to know how much money you have. For that, you must ask someone. If you ask someone how much money you have, he will likewise know the amount of money you have. Well then, ask him over Tor, problem solved, right? No. Your wallet has many Bitcoin addresses, and if you ask someone hey, how much money do I have in these addresses? then the third party you are asking will know those addresses belong to the same person. It seems like the only way to avoid address linking is to run your own full node. Your node downloads all the transactions ever happened on the Bitcoin network, then calculates balances locally. Since you ask for all the transactions, nobody knows, which ones you are interested in. However, running a full node Continue reading >>

6 Ways To Guarantee Anonymity When Making Bitcoin Transactions

6 Ways To Guarantee Anonymity When Making Bitcoin Transactions By: Sudhir Khatwani In: Bitcoin Last Updated: Hiding your identity in this digital world is quite tricky, as you often leave behind several digital footprints. Since Bitcoin is part of the digital world, its also quite tricky to be completely anonymous when using this cryptocurrency . Did you know that Bitcoin transactions are not anonymous (Pseudo anonymous) and can be tracked? Bitcoin transactions, by design, are not linked to a person or identity. Public addresses areused fortransactions- alphanumeric stringspublically recorded on the blockchain. A persons name, physical address, or email is found nowhere in the transaction. But a persons identity can still be tracked down using public address info and IPs. Thats why Bitcoin transactions are called pseudo-anonymous. But how is this possible when theres no name attached to the public address or IP? Well, sometimes the user of the Bitcoin public address declares their name along with the public address. Identity can also be traced if you are using a private wifi connection. Here we generally give our proof of ID, through which our identities can be matched against our IP. There are several other ways to track you down digitally, but cutting a long story short, there are some tricks which can help you use Bitcoin anonymously. Here are some identity-hiding things to do while using Bitcoin. Best Methods to Make Bitcoin asAnonymous as possible: Bitcoin transactions are recorded on a public ledger. Anyone who traces a public address can know the origin and/or destination. There is no protocol level procedure to anonymize these bitcoins, which is why a Bitcoin mixer is required to hide identity. Bitcoin mixing is a process which tries to break the linkability or t Continue reading >>

How To Make Anonymous Payments With Bitcoin: A Step-by-step Guide

How To Make Anonymous Payments With Bitcoin: A Step-by-step Guide

How to Make Anonymous Payments with Bitcoin Tails is a Linux operating system that you run from a DVD or USB stick. You do not need to install it on your computer. It comes with all important software pre-installed and routes all your traffic through the Tor network. The easiest way to get Tails is to ask somebody who already has it to write a copy onto your USB stick using the Tails Installer program found inside the operating system. Another option is to download Tails from their official website, verify it, and install it manually using their step-by-step instructions . While the instructions on the Tails website may seem confusing at first, theyre well written and not difficult if you follow them carefully. Find a computer, plug your USB stick into it or put the DVD into the drive, and startup the computer. Some computers will automatically detect the drive and start running Tails, but in most cases you will have to enter the BIOS setup. This guide will help you use BIOS. If you run into any trouble, try searching online to find out how to enter BIOS for your particular computer. Everything you do around a particular identity should be done within Tails, whether youre browsing, chatting, making Bitcoin transactions, or typing documents. Keep your browsing focused, and do not log into your private Facebook or the blog associated with another one of your identities at the same time. Without having persistence enabled, you wont be able to save any data in Tails. Under Applications > Tails, select Configure persistent volume. To use this option, your USB stick must have been created using the Tails Installer program. If you created your USB stick manually (as described above), you need to copy Tails over using another USB stick. The Tails installer is under Application Continue reading >>

A Step-by-step Guide To Creating An Anonymous Wallet For Covert Practices : Bitcoin

A Step-by-step Guide To Creating An Anonymous Wallet For Covert Practices : Bitcoin

A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an Anonymous Wallet for Covert Practices With the recent Bitcoin bubble fiasco and the subsequent rise and fall of Bitcoin value, it seems that this subreddit has become obsessed with making money. But get-rich-quick schemes are not at the heart of Bitcoin. Instead BTC should be seen as a way to keep Big Governments and Big Businesses from knowing how much money you have and what you choose to spend that money on. As a currency, it doesn't matter how much the value fluctuates if you plan on spending your wealth on sites like the Silk Road and etc. (OK, maybe it does matter a little bit if the money you spent yesterday is worth twice as much today; but this guide is for spenders, not hoarders. Or at least for hoarders who also like to spend.) Let's discuss my favorite attribute of the Bitcoin protocol: anonymity. Many noobs getting into the Bitcoin game fail to realize that anonymity is an important key to understanding the importance of Bitcoin. In places where your wealth can easily be taking away from you (see Cyprus, Russia, China, the USA and others), Bitcoin can function like a store of cash buried in a dessert in the middle of nowhere buried so deep that nobody can find it, not even the most powerful men and women on Earth. POINT: If you are purchasing your Bitcoins through services like Coinbase or Mt. Gox, and if you've ever given your real name and bank account information to a Bitcoin Exchange, then you are NOT anonymous. Your Bitcoins can be traced back to you. Your purchases are recorded in the blockchain, and although it's difficult, it's certainly not impossible for those with the knowhow to find you and prosecute you. See this link before continuing. Bitcoin is not inherently anonymous. You must take steps to protect your Continue reading >>

Some Things You Need To Know

Some Things You Need To Know

If you are about to explore Bitcoin, there are a few things you should know. Bitcoin lets you exchange money in a different way than with usual banks. As such, you should take time to inform yourself before using Bitcoin for any serious transaction. Bitcoin should be treated with the same care as your regular wallet, or even more in some cases! Like in real life, your wallet must be secured. Bitcoin makes it possible to transfer value anywhere in a very easy way and it allows you to be in control of your money. Such great features also come with great security concerns. At the same time, Bitcoin can provide very high levels of security if used correctly. Always remember that it is your responsibility to adopt good practices in order to protect your money. Read more about securing your wallet . The price of a bitcoin can unpredictably increase or decrease over a short period of time due to its young economy, novel nature, and sometimes illiquid markets. Consequently, keeping your savings with Bitcoin is not recommended at this point. Bitcoin should be seen like a high risk asset, and you should never store money that you cannot afford to lose with Bitcoin. If you receive payments with Bitcoin, many service providers can convert them to your local currency. Any transaction issued with Bitcoin cannot be reversed, they can only be refunded by the person receiving the funds. That means you should take care to do business with people and organizations you know and trust, or who have an established reputation. For their part, businesses need to keep control of the payment requests they are displaying to their customers. Bitcoin can detect typos and usually won't let you send money to an invalid address by mistake. Additional services might exist in the future to provide more Continue reading >>

Protect Your Privacy

Protect Your Privacy

Bitcoin is often perceived as an anonymous payment network. But in reality, Bitcoin is probably the most transparent payment network in the world. At the same time, Bitcoin can provide acceptable levels of privacy when used correctly. Always remember that it is your responsibility to adopt good practices in order to protect your privacy. Bitcoin works with an unprecedented level of transparency that most people are not used to dealing with. All Bitcoin transactions are public, traceable, and permanently stored in the Bitcoin network. Bitcoin addresses are the only information used to define where bitcoins are allocated and where they are sent. These addresses are created privately by each user's wallets. However, once addresses are used, they become tainted by the history of all transactions they are involved with. Anyone can see the balance and all transactions of any address. Since users usually have to reveal their identity in order to receive services or goods, Bitcoin addresses cannot remain fully anonymous. As the block chain is permanent, it's important to note that something not traceable currently may become trivial to trace in the future. For these reasons, Bitcoin addresses should only be used once and users must be careful not to disclose their addresses. To protect your privacy, you should use a new Bitcoin address each time you receive a new payment. Additionally, you can use multiple wallets for different purposes. Doing so allows you to isolate each of your transactions in such a way that it is not possible to associate them all together. People who send you money cannot see what other Bitcoin addresses you own and what you do with them. This is probably the most important advice you should keep in mind. Unless your intention is to receive public donati Continue reading >>

Top 4 Anonymous Bitcoin Wallets

Top 4 Anonymous Bitcoin Wallets

Some bitcoin users would like nothing more than to use a wallet that allows them to remain somewhat anonymous. Unfortunately, the vast majority of mobile wallets do not provide such a functionality at this time. Lucky for those users, there are a few bitcoin wallet projects which focus primarily on anonymity, even though that makes most of them a lot harder to use. We briefly touched upon the Multibit wallet in a previous article, as it is a recommended tool for novice bitcoin users . With its decentralized nature and no fixed servers, users can enjoy a degree of anonymity when using this wallet service. Users can also keep private contacts and payments databases. More importantly, Multibit ensures all data is encrypted on the local machine, while also supporting hardware wallets. Plus, it is an open source solution, which allows users to add additional features as they see fit. The Jaxx wallet has made quite a name for itself throughout 2016. Not only does the wallet support bitcoin, but it is also compatible with a wide range of popular altcoins. Jaxx never holds onto user funds, and their entire security model is client-side. Even if the wallet would ever cease to exist altogether, users can still export their private key with relative ease. Anonymity is achieved by not asking users for any personal information while signing up for the Jaxx wallet. The company doesnt even require an email address, which is a nice touch. It is also a very convenient wallet, as users can switch between cryptocurrency balances from the same screen and pair the wallet across devices. All things considered, Jaxx seems to be checking a lot of the right boxes. One of the more recently released bitcoin wallet solutions goes by the name of Bitlox . It is evident from the get-go this tool is Continue reading >>
