[8] :1 [9] It was invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto [10] and released as open-source software in 2009. [11] The system is peer-to-peer , and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary. #1 Simple Bitcoin Price History Chart (since 2009)

#1 Simple Bitcoin Price History Chart (since 2009)

Bitcoin was not traded on any exchanges in 2009. Its first recorded price was in 2010. Technically, Bitcoin was worth $0 in 2009 during its very first year of existence! Bitcoin's price never topped $1 in 2010! Its highest price for the year was just $0.39! Bitcoins price is measured against fiat currency, such as American Dollars (BTCUSD), Chinese Yuan (BTCCNY) or Euro (BTCEUR). Bitcoin therefore appears superficially similar to any symbol traded on foreign exchange markets. Unlike fiat currencies however, there is no official Bitcoin price; only various averages based on price feeds from global exchanges . Bitcoin Average and CoinDesk are two such indices reporting the average price. Its normal for Bitcoin to trade on any single exchange at a price slightly different to the average. But discrepancies aside, what factors determine Bitcoins price? The general answer to why this price? is supply and demand. Price discovery occurs at the meeting point between demand from buyers and supply of sellers. Adapting this model to Bitcoin, its clear that the majority of supply is controlled by early adopters and miners. Inspired by the rarity of gold, Bitcoin was designed to have a fixed supply of 21 million coins, over half of which have already been produced. Several early adopters were wise or fortunate enough to earn, buy or mine vast quantities of Bitcoin before it held significant value. The most famous of these is Bitcoins creator, Satoshi Nakomoto. Satoshi is thought to hold one million bitcoins or roughly 4.75% of the total supply (of 21 million). If Satoshi were to dump these coins on the market, the ensuing supply glut would collapse the price. The same holds true for any major holder. However, any rational individual seeking to maximise their returns would distribute Continue reading >>

Bitcoin is down at $9,059 a fall of $120 on the day so far and a sharp drop from the week's high of $9,922 posted on Saturday. Billionaire investor Warren Buffett's comment over the weekend, namely calling bitcoin "rat poison squared", has angered and confused the crypto community - many of whom consider Buffett to be a "hero". BBC Apprentice Winner, Mark Wright is a BTC investor and a firm believer in cryptocurrency. Mr Wright told Express.co.uk that he completely disagrees with Warren Buffetts opinion on Bitcoin. He said: "Despite its volatile nature, the cryptocurrency sector has soared in recent years, with experts predicting it will hit a market valuation of $1 Trillion by the close of 2018. "This figure in itself proves Buffett wrong, particularly when you take into account how the value of Bitcoin has developed since 2014 the time when Buffett first expressed negative opinion on the sector." Mr Wright adds that, despite his years of experience in business, Buffetts comment shows lack of engagement in technology and innovation." Bitcoin keeps coming back in the headlines. With any Bitcoin price change making news and keeping investors guessing. In countries that accept it, you can buy groceries and clothes just as you would with the local currency. Only bitcoin is entirely digital; no one is carrying actual bitcoins around in their pocket. Bitcoin is divorced from governments and central banks. It's organized through a network known as a blockchain, which is basically an online ledger that keeps a secure record of each transaction and bitcoin price all in one place. Every time anyone buys or sells bitcoin, the swap gets logged. Several hundred of these back-and-forths make up a block. No one controls these blocks, because blockchains are decentralized across every computer that has a bitcoin wallet, which you only get if you buy bitcoins. True to its origins as an open, decentralized currency, bitcoin is meant to be a quicker, cheaper, and more reliable form of payment than money tied to individual countries. In addition, it's the only form of money users can theoretically "mine" themselves, if they (and their computers) have the ability. But even for those who don't discover using their own high-powered computers, anyone can buy and sell bitcoins at the bitcoin price they want, typically through online exchanges like Coinbase or LocalBitcoins. A 2015 survey showed bitcoin users tend to be overwhelmingly white and male, but of varying incomes. The people with the most bitcoins are more likely to be using it for illegal purposes, the survey suggested. Each bitcoin has a complicated ID, known as a hexadecimal code, that is many times more difficult to steal than someone's credit-card information. And since there is a finite number to be accounted for, there is less of a chance bitcoin or fractio Continue reading >>

Big Money! Casascius 1 Btc Coin Sells For $28,700

Big Money! Casascius 1 Btc Coin Sells For $28,700

Big Money! Casascius 1 BTC Coin Sells for $28,700 Jeff Francis January 13, 2018 11:00 am A certified Casascius 1 BTC coin just sold for $28,700 on eBay, an amount much higher than the current $14,300 that a single bitcoin is going for. It may be that cryptocurrency is moving into the realm of collectability as well as a means of financial transaction. A Casascius 1 BTC coin that was originally released back in 2011 as part of the coins second series just sold on eBay . The winning bid was an eye-opening $28,700. Overall, the Casascius coin had 166 bids placed upon it. The seller bravely started off the auction at 1 cent. This was pretty gutsy as the coin contains 1 Bitcoin in value, which currently stands at $14,399. The auction got off with a bang as the first bid raised the price to $10,100, and the action just heated up from there. For a couple of days, bidders nibbled away at a $20,000 bid that someone had put into place. On the last day of the auction, the price went from $17,200 all the way up to $28,700. The coin has an ANACS rating of MS 65, which equates to an absolute mint state. The Bitcoin value of the coin is unredeemed, and the private key is contained on a piece of paper that has been sealed to the coin with a tamper-evident hologram sticker. These coins are rather unique. Their creator is Mike Caldwell, who decided to transform virtual currency into physical coins. Caldwell minted coins that included the key to access a specific amount of Bitcoin, normally 1 BTC. However, he did make denominations up to 1000 BTC. The coins were pretty popular, but Caldwell was shut down by the federal government. Back in 2013, Caldwell received a notice from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FINCEN), a part of the US Treasury Department. They felt that his busin Continue reading >>

Hackers Attack Sacramento Transit System For 1 Btc Ransom

Hackers Attack Sacramento Transit System For 1 Btc Ransom

Hackers Attack Sacramento Transit System for 1 BTC Ransom SacRT hacked for 1 BTC - not a bad deal compared to Equifax and others. A hacker has attacked and crippled the Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) system for a ransom of 1 Bitcoin , or about $8,000 at todays market value . The attack erased important programs that are necessary for planning and dispatching bus routes, as well as dispatching employees for service. In an odd move, the hacker demanded a single Bitcoin in order to stop making the attacks and to allow the computer team at SacRT to get the system back online. According to a message sent by the hackers: Hello, I will always attack your website, we are hackers. We can do everything. Pay us now to stop attacking. The hack raised awareness and SacRT removed all its credit card payment options until full security can be achieved. It may take several days to get the system back online to complete functionality. The hack and ransom are odd in that the demands are so small. Other hacks this year include sizable amounts. HBO , Wipro , and Equifax all faced ransoms anywhere from $250,000 to over $75 mln. It appears the SacRT hacker can be bought off for a relatively small amount, though nevertheless causing much disruption. Continue reading >>
