UPDATE: I am proud to announce that my new course Blockchain Programming in iOS Using Swift is now available. Enroll now for only $10.99. Blockchain is the technology behind popular cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin. The main concept behind Blockchain is to provide a distributed ledger which is not controlled by one central party. In this post I will show you how you can use iOS/MacOS to create a very basic Blockchain in Swift language. NOTE: This post does not cover nodes/peers, validation, rewards etc. The quickest and the easiest way to to get started is by using Swift Playgrounds. For this particular demo, I used macOS Playgrounds since it has some useful functions for generate SHA hash. The first step is to implement the Block class which will represent a single block in a.. blockchain. The implementation is shown below: The details of the Block class is shown below: index The position of block in the blockchain. Index of 0 means that the block is the first block in the blockchain. Index of 1 means it is the second block in the blockchain.. you get the idea right! dateCreated The date when the block was created previousHash The hash value of the previous block nonce Auto incremented number which plays an important role for mining the hash data Any valuable asset. This can be money, medical information, real estate information etc key This is a computed property which is passed to the hashed function The Blockchain class requires an instance of a block to initialize itself. This block is also known as genesis block, since it is the first block in the block chain. The implementation of Blockchain class is shown below: The addBlock function adds the block to the blockchain. The next block is based on the previous blocks hash, which is one of the properties used by t Continue reading >>

Do not use URL shortening services: always submit the real link. Begging/asking for bitcoins is absolutely not allowed, no matter how badly you need the bitcoins. Only requests for donations to large, recognized charities are allowed, and only if there is good reason to believe that the person accepting bitcoins on behalf of the charity is trustworthy. News articles that do not contain the word "Bitcoin" are usually off-topic. This subreddit is not about general financial news. Submissions that are mostly about some other cryptocurrency belong elsewhere. For example, /r/CryptoCurrency is a good place to discuss all cryptocurrencies. Promotion of client software which attempts to alter the Bitcoin protocol without overwhelming consensus is not permitted. Trades should usually not be advertised here. For example, submissions like "Buying 100 BTC" or "Selling my computer for bitcoins" do not belong here. /r/Bitcoin is primarily for news and discussion. Please avoid repetition /r/bitcoin is a subreddit devoted to new information and discussion about Bitcoin and its ecosystem. New merchants are welcome to announce their services for Bitcoin, but after those have been announced they are no longer news and should not be re-posted. Aside from new merchant announcements, those interested in advertising to our audience should consider Reddit's self-serve advertising system . Build A Blockchain App With Swift 4 (how To) Learnappmaking

Written by: Reinder de Vries , April 25 2018, in App Development , Tutorials In this tutorial we are going to build a blockchain app. Blockchain technology is hot right now, and it has an immense amount of potential. But did you know that the future of the blockchain is building apps and services on top of the blockchain? Ill show you how in this tutorial. Youll learn how the blockchain works, what proof of work is for, and Ill show you step-by-step how to build an app that interacts with the blockchain. The blockchain app we are going to build together is called Habitat, and you can use it to purchase fictive habitats on Mars. Always wanted to put your mark on the Schiaparelli crater? Now you can. And best of all: your purchase is immortalized in the blockchain! Yes, itll stay there forever. Ill show you what that means in this tutorial. Were not going to build the blockchain itself. There are plenty of smart people doing that! Well use a webservice to connect to a Blockchain-as-a-Service, called Tierion . Why? So we can build on top of the blockchain, because thats where the real value of the blockchain technology lies. After completing this iOS tutorial, I want you to be able to build your own blockchain app for whatever purpose on top of blockchain technology. Let me know what you come up with! Do you want to build your own iOS apps, or become a professional iOS developer? Check out Zero to App Store , our flagship iOS development course that shows you how to bring your iOS 11 app projects to life with Swift 4. See you inside? Learn more Lets start by finding out what a blockchain really is. Its awesome, important, and not that complicated. A blockchain is a so-called ledger of facts. And a ledger is like a database, with rows and columns. Youve probably used ledge Continue reading >>

Ethereum On A Iphone Decentralize Today

Ethereum On A Iphone Decentralize Today

Getting started with Ethereum apps on iOS There is no installation package, build by the Ethereum community, ready for the iOS. But in a way it is possible to build something. Let us start with the Ethereum client architecture to see what we have. Ethereum is an example of a very fast growing blockchain implementation. Actually, Ethereum has surpassed Bitcoin in amount of nodes in the public network, at this writing moment, see the current number of nodes . Ethereum is a cryptocurrency. Ether is the currency. Ethereum was created as a clone of the Bitcoin core, having its own blockchain network - a public, distributed ledger. The Ethereum network is called P2P Wire Protocol Network. The most exceptional: Ethereum has a whole programing platform on top of its cryptocurrency, implemented in every client. The programs are called DApps, Decentralized Applications. People are doing things in Ethereum that are not possible right now in Bitcoin. It has created a new generation of developers which never worked with Bitcoin but are interested in Ethereum. See story from Coinbase . What is very real, though, is the possibility that Ethereum blows past Bitcoin entirely. See r3cev.com/blog/2016/5/29 Every node in the network is called a Ethereum Client and it has nothing to do with a client-server architecture. There are only clients nodes in the Ethereum network. Where the Bitcoin blockchain distinguish between a full-node, having a full copy of all transactions, and a lightweight node, having only what is needed for a wallet, the Ethereum has only full-nodes. But there is being working on a lightweight node, see what-should-i-install-on-a-mobile-tablet . Meaning, we must wait on the official Light Client for the mobile devices. While we are waiting on a lightweight solution for Continue reading >>

Generating Keys For The Burrow Blockchain Usingswift

Generating Keys For The Burrow Blockchain Usingswift

Bridging EVM blockchains and Server-side Swift one line of code at a time. Generating Keys for the Burrow Blockchain usingSwift At Katalysis , we use the Burrow blockchain built by Monax (also known as Eris in the days of old) using the Zewo Swift server side stack. We have been using the Monax blockchain for over a year now, and one thing we found missing from the tools is a means to create your own keys without having to rely on the trusted eris services start keys. Our rational here is that we want to avoid sharing our private keys as much as possible (i.e. generate them and use them for signing purposes locally on the same trusted box/device). In this post we will show how to use our open source native Swift library ErisKeys , which wraps the necessary crypto primitives to generate valid Eris keys and accounts, sign messages (or transactions), and also verify them. This post assumes only minimal knowledge of the Swift programming language . So lets get started Swift code can run on all Apple platforms, as well as on Linux (on x86 architectures ARM still requires more involvement). First, lets set up a working Swift development environment. Here, we use the excellent swiftenv on an Ubuntu Digital Ocean or AWS cloud instance. Regarding IDE, Atom has some optional Swift packages which can make development more streamlined. On MacOS, Xcode is king. If you dont have it installed, you can get it from the Mac App Store . Additionally, we also recommend to install swiftenv since programming server side with Swift requires going to the command line quite a bit. You can of course also stick to Atom , however, you miss out on more advanced debugging capabilities. The Swift Package Manager (SPM) is part of the standard Swift install. It is not yet fully integrated with Xcode, Continue reading >>

Google's Angular, Apple's Swift: Meet The Decade's Fastest-growing Developer Tech

Google's Angular, Apple's Swift: Meet the decade's fastest-growing developer tech Developer tools from Apple and Google have had the most dramatic impact on developers of any technology. The two most valuable companies in the world are also behind the two fastest-growing technologies that support their ecosystems. Stack Overflow's latest look at fast rising and falling technologies has found that Google's Angular framework for building web and native apps, and Swift, Apple's language for building iOS apps, have been by far the two fastest-growing developer technologies of the past decade. The developer community and help site gauges the success of different technologies by looking at the year-over-year changes in questions asked with tags such as 'angular', 'typescript', 'iPad', and so on. Only tags used in over 10,000 questions were included in the analysis. Other technologies among the fastest to attract developer interest included the iPad, which spiked after it launched in 2010 but its growth has since been in steady decline. The Google Brain Team's TensorFlow machine-learning framework for creating neural networks is off to a good start and is still rising. Android Studio, released in 2013, is also among the fastest to gain traction among developers. Stack Overflow data scientist Julia Silge notes there are good reasons for the massive growth of both Angular and Swift because each succeeded already popular languages. These were AngularJS and Objective-C, respectively. Android Studio, Angular, Swift and the iPad are examples of what "remarkable success" looks like for a new technology, according to Silge. She also takes a look at the "other side of the coin", which includes technologies that aren't necessarily remarkable failures and often the result of major platf Continue reading >>

Ark-swift Interface For Easy Ios Integration With The Ark Blockchain

ARK-SWIFT Interface For Easy iOS Integration With The ARK Blockchain We are very proud to announce ARK-SWIFT integration for ARK, thanks to one of our community developers. Community developer SleepDeficit has been working very hard to contribute to the ARK Ecosystem. He is continuing development on some ARK IoT projects. In the mean time has brought us SWIFT integration for ARK, completely written in SWIFT 4.0. SWIFT GITHUB: Swift is a powerful and intuitive programming language for macOS, iOS, watchOS and tvOS. Writing Swift code is interactive and fun, the syntax is concise yet expressive, and Swift includes modern features developers love. Swift code is safe by design, yet also produces software that runs lightning-fast. Swift 4 was developed in the open at Swift.org, with source code, a bug tracker, mailing lists, and regular development builds available for everyone. This broad community of developers, both inside of Apple, as well as hundreds of outside contributors, work together to make Swift even more amazing. Swift already supports all Apple platforms as well as Linux, with community members actively working to port to even more platforms. Swift includes features that make code easier to read and write, while giving the developer the control needed in a true systems programming language. Swift supports inferred types to make code cleaner and less prone to mistakes, and modules eliminate headers and provide namespaces. Memory is managed automatically, and you dont even need to type semicolons. Swift also borrows from other languages, for instance named parameters brought forward from Objective-C are expressed in a clean syntax that makes APIs in Swift easy to read and maintain. The features of Swift are designed to work together to create a language that is p Continue reading >>

Build An Ethereum/bitcoin Price Tracking App Inswift

iOS Engineer @ Amazon, Blockchain Engineer & Enthusiast. Creator of a full-service App development company. @maxsteinapps Build an Ethereum/Bitcoin price tracking app inSwift Ethereum, Bitcoin, and cryptocurrencies at large have been exploding in value lately. Even if youre not invested in cryptocurrencies yourself now is a great time to learn how to program apps that leverage them. Today we will be building a very simple Ethereum/Bitcoin price tracker in Swift 4 using Xcode 9 . To get started download the base project here then open CryptoTracker.xcodeproj. Try running the app (+R) in the iOS Simulator and youll notice the text $0.00 with Ethereum Price under it. If you select Main.storyboard from the projects pane on the left-hand side youll see we have a horizontally and vertically aligned stack view with the two labels. Select the $0.00 label and reveal the connections inspector (++6) and youll see it has a @IBOutlet connection to ViewController.swift with the name etherValueLabel. We will edit this label with the real value of the currency later. Our price tracker wouldnt be very good without up to date information on prices. The best way to get this information is through the use of an API, and CryptoCompare has a great one that supports numerous types of currencies. For now, we want to use it to make an API call to get back Ethereums price in USD so we can display that in our app. Open up ViewController.swift from the projects pane and add the following below the etherValueLabel @IBOutlet at the top of the file: let apiURL = URL(string: "This is the API URL we will be connecting to in order to fetch the data we now read to write a GET request in order to retrieve the latest price information from this URL. Add the following function below the didReceiveMemoryWar Continue reading >>

This post marks the start of a new series of blog posts Introducing never before seen technology discovered by the talented Mercury team . The iOS team here at Mercury Protocol is very happy to announce that we have open sourced the framework web3.swift . Mercurys web3.swift provides native iOS developers an API to encode and sign transactions client side. This gives clients the choice to send to the blockchain directly or send it elsewhere to avoid mobile devices acting as Ethereum peers. Mercurys web3.swift library gives the blockchain community and app developers an easier way to use Swift for Ethereum: Account Management, Transaction Encoding, and Signing. This library is similar to web3.js for Web and web3j for Java and Android. Install CocoaPods using Homebrew by entering the following in a terminal: First, create an Xcode iOS app project called Web3SwiftExample in your home directory. To integrate web3.swift into your Xcode proje Continue reading >>
