Should I Move From A Paper Wallet? - Bitcoin

Back in 2013 I moved a very small amount of bitcoin onto a paper wallet as I was told that was the safest long term storage method at the time. My understanding is that by design in order to spend from a paper wallet you expose the private key, so you should move everything at once. As a result I have monitored the balance but nothing else. With everything that has been happening in the last few months I realized that I have put all my eggs in one basket, and I don't even know how to open that basket (or if I even can). Does anyone have any advice on what I should do going forward? Is a paper wallet still the safest storage method? Personally the whole thing makes me nervous as I can't transfer without transferring everything, so I have no way to confirm I still have access to my coins. I've looked into hardware wallets and they seem very interesting. If I do need to transfer them to something else, does anyone know of some clear instructions on how to move my bitcoin out of a paper wallet? In the same vein, is there any way to retrieve the bitcoin cash from this paper wallet? Thanks! Continue reading >>

Is A Paper Wallet That Safe? How Do I Use It Exactly? - Bitcoin

Is A Paper Wallet That Safe? How Do I Use It Exactly? - Bitcoin

Is a paper wallet that safe? How do I use it exactly? Hello! I've been into Bitcoin for almost three years now but since I found out about it I have used just browser wallets. I recently heard it's not so safe to store them in a browser wallet so I was wondering.. Is the paper wallet safer than any other one? I'm looking to store BTC for a long time. So I've got the following questions: If any website goes down (including the one I'm going to generate the paper wallet from), will my BTC still be there? If that's the case, how can I get my funds back into a wallet? Can I get them on ANY web/offline wallet back or just on specific ones? Can I simply print it from my home printer or do I need a special type of paper/printer? Why exactly is it safe? Can it be stolen? What are the risks of having it stored on a paper? I'm going to save BTC for a while and I decided to find a better and safer way to store them than the web browser wallet. I have already set up an old laptop with a Live CD Linux which removes every chance as soon as I shut it down, so I guess keyloggers aren't a problem anymore as I'm using that laptop JUST for cryptocurrencies. Any other suggestions for safe storage are appreciated. Thank you for taking your time to answer me. Continue reading >>

Is Paper Wallet The Best? - Bitcoin

Is Paper Wallet The Best? - Bitcoin

Yes laminated paper wallet are the best. And it's free.Hardware wallet are good but you still need a paper wallet to save your seed so..... No, hardware wallet followed by paper followed by ios hd wallet but let's say I plug the hardware wallet in 5 years times and it's died? Doesnt matter, you can recover the funds using software or other wallets like electrum/MyCelium Hardware wallets all use standard hd format so the 12/24 words are isable on other wallets if needed Edit- i should add recovering funds from paper wallet safely is terrifying experience, if youve not done it before I recommend trying. Yes paper is v secure for storing but retrieving is tricky to do with offline computers and verified software on an offline computer. is it automatically backed up incase it does or do I do that myself? You just need those 24 words, you can type them in on any wallet on anyones computer anywhere in the world and have full access to your funds again (but suggest always using a hardware wallet rather than typing them in just to be extra safe :)) Doesnt matter, you can recover the funds using software or other wallets like electrum/MyCelium This is the thing I find funny about the safety people feel with using hardware: The hardware is only safe if you also write down the (unencrypted!) seed key and keep it very safe. This is basically... a paper wallet. Only it's less secure because you can't protect it with a password like you can with a BIP38 encrypted paper wallet. I'm not sure why recovering a wallet from a HD seed written on paper would be any less/more terrifying than recovering an address when writing down a single private key as a paper wallet... a paper wallet is a one trick pony, after you redeem it you need to send the change to a new paper wallet. This has two i Continue reading >>

Bitcoin Paper Wallet Tutorial

Bitcoin Paper Wallet Tutorial

Paper wallets are a good solution for high security long term storage! No malware can steal your wallet files or private keys There are already a lot of good tutorials on paper wallets available so here are some good resources to get you started: Ideally you would go on and save the webpage onto an USB stick. Then boot up your computer from a Linux live CD without any internet connection and generate & print your paper wallets. That way the generated bitcoin addresses have never seen the internet but are still valid to receive funds. For added security you can create password protected paper wallets (BIP38). They can only be spent when a password is known which is set during creation of the paper wallet. You can find more about BIP38 password protected paper wallets here: Devices like the Mycelium Entropy make it very easy to print paper wallets without exposing the private keys to any computer. It is a small USB device which you can connect to any printer that can print images off an USB stick and print paper wallets. You can read more at their indiegogo funding page: Continue reading >>
