Is It Too Late To Make Your Fortune In Cryptocurrency Icos?

Is It Too Late To Make Your Fortune In Cryptocurrency ICOs? Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own. "They can generate a fortune...if you pick the right projects." More start-up companies will go the route of the initial coin offering to raise funds. A $10,000 investment, even in someICOs that have lost more than half their value over the past month, would be worth close to a million dollars today, depending on the company. (Shutterstock) We've all heard it a hundred times: if you bought one Bitcoin for yourself for a December 2012 Christmas present, thinking, "Why not, the Mayan calendar ends and we are all going to die," you would have forked over a meaningless $13. And for that measly $13, your single Bitcoin would be worth around $8,000 today. That's just Bitcoin. What about all these other cryptocurrencies? How richwould you be today if you sunk $10,000 in one of these start-ups issuing new digital coins out of nowhere? There are literally hundreds of them. Coinmarketcap lists 1,510 to be exact. Most are tied to new tech start-ups issuing their own coins. In 2013, a blockchain company focused on fintech called RippleNet did an initial coin offering (ICO) and sold their coin (XRP) at a discounted rate. It was worth less than half a penny. On January 4, at its peak, it was worth $3.65. Let's say you put $10,000 to work in XRP when it launched its ICO; you would be the proud owner of roughly two million ripples. If you forgot you even had those coins, and surely never had any use for them on their Ripple Network, a service only for financial institutions, you'd be happy to discover that your two million ripplewas worth $7.3 million at their peak last month. Those coins are worth just $0.75 cents now,but your two million ripple is still valued at $1.5 Continue reading >>

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Other Cryptocurrency: Five Positive Factors For 2018

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Other Cryptocurrency: Five Positive Factors For 2018

Bitcoin (BTC) is the most important cryptocurrency. Most government-backed money that goes in and out of crypto goes through bitcoin, so what happens to the original cryptocurrency affects the entire market. The token's market dominance stood at about 40 percent as of Wednesday. By my estimates, however, it's clear bitcoin's market dominance should return to 75 percent of the entire space. I actually see a 150 percent potential upside in bitcoin for 2018. Why? Well, BTC is still dominant. It has the biggest user base and the biggest industry. Still, it faces a challenge in scaling up for wider use. Bitcoin now can't handle more than six or seven (or, with the "Segregated Witness" protocol upgrade, it's 12 to 14) transactions a second. Compare that with credit cards, which involve thousands of transactions per second, so the criticism about bitcoin's ability to be useful at larger scales is understandable. The scalability challenge results in high fees as well. What is the solution? It is the so-called second-layer peer-to-peer off-chain networks. To cite an example, look at the Lightning Network . Created by Blockstream, the Lightning Network allows for transactions off the blockchain, thereby decreasing the transaction costs almost to zero and increasing the speed and scalability almost infinitely. And it's just getting started. As you can see from this map , more and more nodes as well as channels are being established. It is growing exponentially. In the coming months, we will see a sharp uptick in transactions and the use of more bitcoin in these channels. What's more, the Lightning Network doesn't have any fee. In other words, second-layer networks solve the problems bitcoin faces scalability and lack of liquidity. That could be a key reason why bitcoin surges thi Continue reading >>

Best Cryptocurrency To Invest In 2018

You are here: Home / Guide / Best Cryptocurrency To Invest In 2018 In recent, we are experiencing a massive boom in the cryptocurrency market. I still remember that even a few years back cryptocurrencies were mainly for tech-savvy people. There were also a few hundred cryptocurrencies, unlike today. Back then the only people that invested were people who loved the cryptocurrencies. But right now the market demographic has changed quite a bit. Instead of hobbyists, serious investors are flooding the market with huge investments. Alongside this, the number of cryptocurrencies has also increased. Instead of a few hundred, the number has increased to 1270 to be precise. So right now investors have a lot of choices when it comes to cryptocurrencies. Back in 2013 or so, it was a choice between Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin etc. As much as having a huge number of cryptocurrencies helps in diversifying your portfolio and gives you choice, it can be very confusing at times too. As a matter of fact, this is the most common question that I hear from newcomers willing to invest in cryptocurrencies. There are veterans like Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ripple, Ethereum and relatively new players like Ethereum, Dash, Neo, Zcash etc. So naturally, new investors are worried whether to invest in this coin or that. And I hope to answer this question once and for all, well at least for 2018. In this section, I have compiled a list of top performing cryptocurrencies. But do keep in mind that this list is in no particular order. First introduced way back in 2009, Bitcoin is the first implementation of a cryptocurrency network. Satoshi Nakamoto, an anonymous individual or group of individuals, mailed the Bitcoin whitepaper to prominent cryptographers and programmers in 2008. Thus Bitcoin came into being Continue reading >>

Best Cryptocurrency To Invest In 2018: A Crypto Markert Guide

If you want to know about the best cryptocurrency to invest in 2018, then believe me I cannot even name it. Bitcoin? No way. It is too unpredictable and is expensive enough to ruin your investments. Ripple? Yes, it did go up in the start but not now. It is heading back to where it started. The crypto market has no specific peaks or trough patterns by which we can effectively predict the best cryptocurrency for 2018. It has one pattern and that is the crypto market cycles. Crypto market cycles- Cryptocurrency trends in 2018 Cryptocurrency will follow some trends for sure. In addition, these trends are going to be the same for ICO in 2018. However, these trends are not going to be unique. Just take a look at how Bitcoin rose in its early time. Everybody invested heavy sums in it and it skyrocketed. Nevertheless, do you know what caused bitcoin to retreat? When all the investors saw their money increased up to 500%, they simply withdrew investments from bitcoin. They did expect a fall and their expectations were correct. In a day, Bitcoin fell from 19000$ to 12000$. The reason behind it was the large withdraw of investments and introduction of Alt coins. Alt coins are basically those coins that replaced Bitcoin during the early months of 2017 and distributed the market cap largely. Alt coins such as Etherum and Steem showed 300-700% of increase in their values as the Bitcoin market cap significantly dropped from 65% to 33%. The investors withdrew money from Bitcoin and invested in Etherum, which went from $7 a coin to $350 a coin in just a year! Moreover, guess what, Etherum started to depreciate too! The reason behind this was the monopoly of investors. They invested in each new cryptocurrency and when they saw their profit, they withdrew investments and moved to the nex Continue reading >>

Which Cryptocurrency Should I Invest In, In 2018? Why?

Which cryptocurrency should I invest in, in 2018? Why? I usually advise everyone to do their own research rather than asking strangers what to invest in. Nevertheless, I do have some coins that I personally think will survive and grow, some of them are listed below: Omisego (OMG), I strongly believe this is sort of like buying Ethereum early. Ripple (XRP), what most everyone loves to hate, but for profits, this should rise in 2018 so pick some up before then. Pixv (PiVX), An instant anononymous coin with one of the biggest communities. Neo (NEO), China IMHO will eventually license exchanges and China will rise again. Don't go crazy with it, but worth having some for when that eventually happens. Pay (TenX), Great team, great plans, this is legit and should do well in the long run. Ethereum (ETH), Last but certainly not least, this is the #2 crypto for a reason and I believe they will solve scaling and eventually, people will stake coins. Bitcoin (scammers) will continue to make new versions of Bitcoin making Ethereum into a more and more likable choice with way better tech. Top Non-Bitcoin Altcoins for Your Portfolio in 2018 By Nathan Reiff | January 22, 2018 8:25 AM EST Though investors are sharply divided about the viability of cryptocurrencies over the long term, there is no denying that some savvy individuals were able to make an astronomical amount of money speculating on virtual currencies over the past several years. At the same time, though, it's easy to feel as if you are too late to cash in on the cryptocurrency craze, particularly if you didn't first buy bitcoin when it first came out several years ago. That being said, there are new digital currencies all the time, and while the top cryptocurrencies like bitcoin have grown to prohibitively high prices for some investors to make major inroads, there are new alternative coins which may be promising. In comparison with bitcoin's current priceof more than $11,000, that's a great bargain for an entire token. One thing that sets NEM apart from some of its competitors is the strength of its blockchain. Ripple , one of the most popular and successful alternatives to bitcoin, has gained traction thanks to its efforts to improve banking transactions and settlements. Could This Cryptocurrency Soar 72% in 2018? The creator of one cryptocurrency just made a bold prediction. Cryptocurrencies are up across the board on Monday, with the top 15 coins by market cap all in the green. Leading cryptocurrency bitcoin (BTC-USD) is among the biggest gainers with a gain of nearly 10%, but Litecoin (LTC-USD) was the weekend's standout performer, up 13% since Saturday afternoon. The fifth-largest cryptocurrency, which is often referred to as the "silver to bitcoin's gold" was the recipient of a bold prediction by its founder, who believes it will be worth more than bitcoin cash by the end of 2018 because of one key catalyst. Litecoin is often considered the "silver" of the cryptocurrency world. Image source: Getty Images. Over the weekend, Litecoin (LTC-USD) founder Charlie Lee, who no longer owns any Litecoin tokens, to prevent conflicts of interest, tweeted that bitcoin (BTC-USD) and second-largest cryptocurrency Ethereum will never switch places. However, Lee predicts that an event he calls "the flappening," with litecoin's market cap surpassing that of bitcoin cash (BCH-USD), will happen this year. As of this writing, bitcoin cash (BCH-USD) has a market capitalization of $21.24 billion, while Litecoin is significantly smaller, at $12.34 billion. This implies that Litecoin will have to rise by more than 72% to overtake bitcoin cash. It could also happen if bitcoin cash were to plunge, but Lee's comment was clearly intended as a bullish one for Litecoin. Lee' Continue reading >>

The Irs Is Coming For Your Cryptocurrency Profits | Money

Investors arent the only ones interested in big cryptocurrency profits. The IRS has a growing curiosity about them too. And that could spell trouble for cryptocurrency investors who made out like bandits in 2017, when Bitcoin and altcoins enjoyed a break-out year. Recently, the popular cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase capitulated to the IRS and the courts and announced that it would send requested transaction information on approximately 13,000 of its users. This is to comply with a court order issued in November. Coinbase fought this summons in court in an effort to protect its customers, and the industry as a whole, from unwarranted intrusions from the government, the company wrote in its announcement to customers. For Coinbase, this move represents the latest in a string of bad news for the exchange. A few weeks ago, a number of users expressed their frustration after the exchange inadvertently charged them multiple times for past purchases. Then last week, competitor Circle bought the exchange Poloniex, in an effort to compete with Coinbases scale . But for cryptocurrency investors, this may be even worse news, as the IRSs victory represents the latest blow to the perceived independence of cryptocurrencies, which are in the crosshairs of a growing number of regulators around the world. Few Taxpayers are Reporting Their Cryptocurrency Gains Last year, the 10 best-performing cryptocurrencies posted a verage price gains of 14,000 %, versus the 20% returns for the stock market. Yet few taxpayers appear to be reporting their crypto trades. Last month, Credit Karma said that of the more than 250,000 people whove already turned in their 2017 taxes via Credit Karmas filing service, fewer than 100 reported any cryptocurrency transactions. Thats less than 0.04% . To be sure, Continue reading >>

We're not going to just jump straight in with some picks though. If we don't take our time over this post, you won't take your time over it either... and when you don't take time over crypto investment decisions, you end up getting burned. How many of us have been guilty of jumping into a coin too quickly, or when it's at an all-time high, only to get stuck holding it at a loss until it (hopefully) gains again? We've done it a few times, and we're sure you have too. So we don't want to be responsible for something that causes more people to jump into investments without doing their own research. In fact, we even created an ICO Evaluation Cheatsheet to simplify the research process and avoid bad investments. We've done a ton of research over the past few months, and we do have a pretty good handle on some of the best long term cryptocurrency projects out right now. While one of our last posts talked about finding under-the-radar coins, this one isn't going to focus on those. Under the radar coins can yield incredible gains if you are fortunate enough to find one that skyrockets in a short period, but the risk is much higher that you end up holding a bunch of useless projects that never go anywhere. Get the latest updates on our growing portfolio, top strategies, latest ICO reviews, and much more! So for this post, we wanted to pick coins that we just know (ok, strongly feel), are going to be around at the end of 2018, and are going to be big gainers. Cryptocurrency Investing: Are Bitcoin And Ethereum Safe? | Money

The wild swings in the value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies lately should reinforce the idea that they are not sound long-term investmentsand that investors should only buy as much as they can afford to lose. If this sounds overly cautious, consider the recent insights of someone who you might otherwise assume is a true believer in cryptocurrencies: Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the cryptocurrency Ethereum. Over the weekend, Buterin sent out a Tweet reminding everyone that cryptocurrencies are still a new and hyper-volatile asset class. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, and other cryptocurrencies could drop to near-zero at any time, Buterin said. Therefore, Dont put in more money than you can afford to lose. If youre trying to figure out where to store your life savings, traditional assets are still your safest bet. Reminder: cryptocurrencies are still a new and hyper-volatile asset class, and could drop to near-zero at any time. Don't put in more money than you can afford to lose. If you're trying to figure out where to store your life savings, traditional assets are still your safest bet. Vitalik "Not giving away ETH" Buterin (@VitalikButerin) February 17, 2018 Over the past 12 months, the value of Bitcoin has skyrocketed from $1,000 to nearly $20,000 , before plunging below $6,000 in early 2018. Cryptocurrencies like Litecoin, Ripple, and Ethereum dipped more than 25% in a single day recently. Essentially, Buterins message urging caution isnt all that different from those issued by cryptocurrency skeptics such as Yale economist Robert Shiller , who has frequently spoken about how unpredictable the cryptocurrency markets are. Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin might totally collapse and be forgotten and I think thats a good likely outcome Shiller said on CNBC earl Continue reading >>

2018 Vc Investment Into Crypto Startups Set To Surpass 2017 Tally

ICOs delivered at least 3.5x more capital to blockchain startups than VC since 2017 For months now, much of the media attention on the crypto space has been directed at ebbs and flows in the price of bitcoin on one side, and whiz-bang ICOs on the other. The price of the most valuable cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (specifically the BTC chain), has backpedaled significantly from highs set in December 2017. The chart below shows pricing data from the CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) over the last 365 days. Those dramatic price swings write headlines. And the media,Crunchbase Newsincluded, has not been shy in covering bitcoins ups and downs. The hype around ICOs is understandable, as well, given that markets velocity , eye-popping market capitalizations and titillating if unfortunate stories of theft and subterfuge. But the comparatively quiet and glacially paced world of traditional venture capital deserves no short shrift from reporters, market analysts and enthusiasts alike. At the time of writing, 2018s venture fundraising totals alone are more than 40 percent of the way to 2017s high water mark, according to Crunchbase data. And its been only around two months since the start of the year. But like all emerging technologies, and most nascent companies working on them, theres no telling whether these bets will generate significant returns. Like with the very cryptocurrency mining computers hashing away at these blockchains, venture investment in this ecosystem may prove to be a waste of energy and a lot of hot air. But venture investors seem alright with buying equity during the dip. Here well see how much venture money is being invested, by whom and where these venture-backed crypto companies call home. Top 5 Cryptocurrency Projects To Watch In March 2018

Top 5 Cryptocurrency Projects to Watch in March 2018 Ah, March. What a perfect opportunity to draw parallels between springtime flowers blooming and beautiful blockchain projects likewise blossoming and thriving. Well, maybe its not the best analogy, but you get the point. The crypto space is developing at a fever pace, and we aim to do the work of researching projects that are especially active so that you can get in on the excitement. Lets not waste any time. Without any further ado, here are 5 cryptocurrency projects that well be keeping a close eye on in March. Well get the obvious pick out of the way first. As many of you may already know, there will be a new cryptocurrency being airdropped to holders of Ethereum Classic (ETC) at block 5,500,000 which is estimated to occur on March 5, 2018. The new coin is called Callisto (CLO). The aim of the project is to incentivize users to hold coins, thus creating a decentralized store of value as a result. This is done through a concept called cold staking . The simple explanation of cold staking is that it is used to pay dividends to participants who hold coins without requiring them to do anything else. In other words, there is no voting requirement to earn the rewards, nor is there a requirement to run a node. Just hold and youll earn interest. With Ethereum being the dominant platform for dapp development, Ethereum Classics role is supposed to be more geared towards store of value. However, there is currently no incentive to hold ETC beyond pure speculation. Callisto will be a good experiment to see if cold staking is an effective strategy, in which case it could be employed by Ethereum Classic itself sometime down the line. If you were paying attention during some of the other notable hardforks and airdrops in the cryp Continue reading >>
