Bitcoin Can Pay The Bills: Man Pays Every Bill Using Cryptocurrency

Too valuable to spend? Picture: Karen Bleier/AFPSource:AFP DAVID Larkin pays all of his bills in bitcoin. The 32-year-old Melbourne IT worker is a true believer in the cryptocurrency and its potential to revolutionise the world of banking and finance. But unlike buy-and-hold speculators and early adopters, many of whom have become astronomically wealthy holding onto their stash as the price skyrockets, Mr Larkin prefers to use bitcoin for its intended purpose. I dont have to, he said. I choose to make a point that bitcoin has real-world application you can do things with it. According to Mr Larkin, who also used bitcoin to purchase a computer which he now uses to mine cryptocurrency Ethereum, there are two types of bitcoin enthusiasts: the get-rich-quick crowd who hold on for dear life and just want to make a profit, and the true bitcoiners who see its future value. Im more into the technology behind it and the way it works, he said. People like us believe in the technology going forward. If people want to get rich off bitcoin they can, thats their choice. [But] its not intended for that. Thats why the creator [Satoshi Nakamoto] is still a mystery. The price of bitcoin has increased by more than 700 per cent since the start of the year, hitting a fresh record high of $US8200 on Monday. Bitcoins market capitalisation the price multiplied by the number of bitcoins in circulation now sits at more than $US135 billion, according to Coinmarketcap . Bitcoin's Record Prices Driven By 'fomo' But Don't Spend It On Beer

Bitcoin's record prices driven by 'FOMO' but don't spend it on beer Bitcoin and Kim Kardashian have one thing in common they're famous for "being famous". That's one reason why the digital currency's price has skyrocketed in the past week, reaching its record-high of $US17,154 ($22,842) at 1.00pm (AEDT), according to Coindesk. "More people are buying bitcoin because of FOMO fear of missing out," said Jason Williams, the founder of digital currency processing business BitPOS. "They've noticed its price has surged rapidly in a very short amount of time, so they naturally want to buy more bitcoin and speculate on its future gains. "Bitcoin is also getting reported on extensively in the media, which in turn boosts its fame and popularity the Kim Kardashian effect." It was only a fortnight ago investors were cheering bitcoin's "fresh record" of almost $US10,000 ($13,316) . Essentially, Mr Williams said the market was a "bubble" driven by speculative investors, rather than people who want to spend bitcoin like "real money". Last year, a man walked into a bar (in Sydney) and made the regretful decision to pay for his pub meal with bitcoin. His two burgers and two beers would only have cost $40 if he had paid in cash. Instead, he chose to pay using one-fifth of a bitcoin. "After six months, the price of bitcoin continued to rise and I joked with my mates that the burgers cost me $50, then $60," said Will, a finance executive who didn't want to be identified for this story. "It kept escalating, and so did the joke!" If only Will had held onto the partial-bitcoin, its value would have surged by 2,800 per cent. One bitcoin was worth $798 back in June 2016, which is a very low price (with the benefit of hindsight). "We now fondly refer to this as 'burger-gate' as my burgers would Continue reading >>

Where Can You Spend Bitcoin In Australia? - Bitcoinaus

Where Can You Spend Bitcoin In Australia? Can't think of any reason why I would use Bitcoin in its current state to actually buy things. Fees and transaction time are just way too high. When I make online purchases I usually use BCH or LTC. BCH?! You actually use that demon coin? But it's a scam! And what about Roger Ver? Huh! How dare you use an actual functional coin! ditto ..been doing a lot of small trades with friends in BCH .. you don't even need to think about the transactions fees. Fortunately a lot of the companies that have been adding support for BTC can switch over and support BCH, as the apis and protocols are pretty much identical, so same code for each to integrate with their web and backends. .. so should see more places support it. In fewer and fewer places... who in their right mind would want to use BTC and pay stupidly high fees? Those that say they do, actually never use it. Bitcoin Cash is what Bitcoin used to be, ditch the Blockstream's hijacked BTC and switch to Bitcoin Cash, more and more placed accept Bitcoin Cash, and in 2018 there will be lot of good news... but not so good for BTC. Choice is yours. Morons that can't handle the truth have the need to downvote :-) There are LITERALLY less and less places that accept BTC... get your heads out of your asses you morons. That's a fairly crappy article, and the map is sadly out of date.Have previously tried to have it updated. A few years back, there was a few places in melbourne that let you pay with BTC. One burger place in the city where you got a discount if paying with BTC and of course polyester books. Both of course have stopped offering this and back then I would be surprised if many people used it. You can pay for just about anything - API maybe; however the future of BCH is still unknown Continue reading >>

Over the past few years, several companies have accepted Bitcoin as payment for goods and services. Some of the most notable are Dell, Steam, OKCupid and Microsoft. However, even though Bitcoins price rocketed upwards, most of these services stopped offering Bitcoin as an option. Of the four listed there, its only Microsoft that still allows you to do so , with Dell, Steam and OKCupid pulling their support for the cryptocurrency over the last year . These services generally offer luxury buys not necessities so perhaps the uptake hasnt been as strong as anticipated in these areas. Indeed, that was why Dell stopped offering Bitcoin as a payment option earlier this year. How about products you buy d Continue reading >>
