Anyone Know Exact File Location/path Wallet.dat On Mac?

Anyone know exact file location/path wallet.dat on Mac? Trying to recover an old HDD (2015). Held some BTC in the Electrum wallet on it and as I used it as a hot wallet, never saved the seed. Was unlucky enough to send some BTC to my hot wallet to be sent to my cold storage, but at that moment my HDD failed. For recovery purposes where could I find the wallet.dat file on mac? The FAQ on the website gives info on how to access the folder on a working mac, but not where to actually find the files on the HDD. There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. Server-assisted clients like blockchain.info rely on centralized servers to do their network verification for them. Although the server can't steal the client's bitcoins directly, it can easily execute double-spending-style attacks against the client. Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction. Advertise here. So you're looking for precise sectors or something? Unfortunately, it'll most likely be different for every HDD/OS... It all depends on partition structure and where the OS has decided to store the data within the partition/file system when it was being persisted to the disk... If you can't recover the file system because the HDD failed and it was all corrupted, you're going to struggle to be able to find a "wallet.dat" as such. Without the file system (which is essentially a map of where everything is stored on the disk), it's all just a collection of 1s and 0s Even doing a sector by sector scan looking for certain byte sequences is not 100% accurate as their is no guarantee that the data was actually stored on the disk in a contiguous manner. 5 Steps To Install Bitcoin-qt Faster - Bitcoin-en.com

5 Steps to Install and Set Up Bitcoin-Qt (now Bitcoin Core) Faster As of Bitcoin Core version (formerly Bitcoin-Qt) 0.10.0 and later, the block chain bootstrap torrent is *slower* than a direct download using the bitcoin P2P protocol & client. If you want the torrent for other reasons, please visit: To download the latest version of Bitcoin Core, please visit: Since release v0.14.0 , Bitcoin Core furtherimproves on validation speed and network propagation performance, supports pruning the blockchain, leading to much shorter sync and initial block download times. The biggest pain point of using Bitcoin-Qt( Bitcoin Core )prior to v 0.10as your wallet is it takes forever to sync to get the complete block chain. A fully functioning node must have the Bitcoin-Qt ( Bitcoin Core ) client on a machine instance with the complete block chain.Note that this speed-up tip will no longer be necessary for Bitcoin Core version 0.10 (click here for Bitcoin Core version history) and above because blockchain syncing will be parallelized across multiple peers and and will be faster than the approach mentioned here. Please make sure the software is running from a computer with SSD (solid state drive), not HDD (hard drive) as the disk-intensive operations will be slow to death if you're not using SSD when you launch Bitcoin-Qt for the first time. Applicable to Bitcoin Core prior to v 0.10, this article is a how-to guide about setting up a full bitcoin node by installing Bitcoin-Qt (now a.k.a. Bitcoin Core) on a Mac using slightly faster approaches broken down as follows: Give higher CPU priority to Bitcoin-Qt process Wait for Bitcoin-Qt catch up synchronization Since version 0.9, Bitcoin-Qt was renamed to Bitcoin Core to reduce confusion between Bitcoin-the-network and Bitcoin-the-software. Data Directory. All About Cryptocurrency - Bitcoin Wiki

The database files in the "blocks" and "chainstate" directories are cross-platform, and can be copied between different installations. These files, known collectively as a node 's "block database", represent all of the information downloaded by a node during the syncing process. In other words, if you copy installation A's block database into installation B, installation B will then have the same syncing percentage as installation A. This is usually far faster than doing the normal initial sync over again. However, when you copy someone's database in this way, you are trusting them absolutely. Bitcoin Core treats its block database files as 100% accurate and trustworthy, whereas during the normal initial sync it treats each block offered by a peer as invalid until proven otherwise. If an attacker is able to modify your block database files, then they can do all sorts of evil things which could cause you to lose bitcoins. Therefore, you should only copy block databases from Bitcoin installations under your personal control, and only over a secure connection. Each node has a unique block database, and all of the files are highly connected. So if you copy just a few files from one installation's "blocks" or "chainstate" directories into another installation, this will almost certainly cause the second node to crash or get stuck at some random point in the future. If you want to copy a block database from one installation to another, you have to delete the old database and copy all of the files at once. Both nodes have to be shut down while copying. Only the file with the highest number in the "blocks" directory is ever written to. The earlier files will never change . Also, when these blk*.dat files are accessed, they are usually accessed in a highly sequential manner. Th Continue reading >>

Zcoin Core Upgrade To 0.13 Is Here

By sebastian September 19, 2017 No Comments We are very excited that Zcoin on the new 0.13 core is finally here and greatly improves Zcoins performance, network reliability and feature set. The codebase has undergone huge changes and represents a strong foundation to build all our improvements on including Znodes and Zerocoin improvements. We had some delays due to incompatibilities caused by the huge jump from Bitcoin core 0.8 to 0.13 in many aspects. We thank you for your patience! We highly recommend upgrading to the latest Zcoin release as soon as possible. A fresh sync used to take several days and has been brought down to 2-3 hours. Full TOR support with hidden services and TOR stream isolation. With TOR stream isolation, every outgoing connection will (potentially) go through a different exit node. That significantly reduces the chance to get unlucky and pick a single exit node that is either malicious, or widely banned from the P2P network. This improves connection reliability as well as privacy, especially for the initial connections. Greatly improved node connectivity, reliability and communication between nodes Pruned blocks support allows you to only keep a much smaller set of data taking up only a fraction of space on your hard disk. Improved transaction fee system that will dynamically adjust fee where required. Allows much easier integration with hardware wallets like Trezor and Ledger of which work is in progress. Zerocoin mints and spends are more reliable Important Instructions when Upgrading to the new Zcoin wallet As this is a massive code change, a few steps need to be taken to update your existing installation to the new wallet. Backup your wallet.dat to a new location or do so by going to File > Backup Walletand save to a separate location. Delete Continue reading >>

Running A Full Node - Bitcoin

Running A Full Node - Bitcoin

A full node is a program that fully validates transactions and blocks.Almost all full nodes also help the network by accepting transactionsand blocks from other full nodes, validating those transactions andblocks, and then relaying them to further full nodes. Most full nodes also serve lightweight clients by allowing them totransmit their transactions to the network and by notifying them when atransaction affects their wallet. If not enough nodes perform thisfunction, clients wont be able to connect through the peer-to-peernetworktheyll have to use centralized services instead. Many people and organizations volunteer to run full nodes using sparecomputing and bandwidth resourcesbut more volunteers are needed toallow Bitcoin to continue to grow. This document describes how you canhelp and what helping will cost you. Running a Bitcoin full node comes with certain costs and can expose youto certain risks. This section will explain those costs and risks so youcan decide whether youre able to help the network. CoinMeteor.com Impacting Bitcoin News, Opinions and Guides! How to set up the Bitcoin Core wallet Client for Beginners and send your first Transaction Bitcoin Core has developed to a reliable, fast and feature rich Bitcoin wallet and it is getting more features with every release. There are other clients too which look similar with the same name (see Step 1 for security advice) or a different name. Some are also not malicious wallets that are not made to steal your Bitcoin but are trying to get users to use their wallet to push for specific Bitcoin politics, by increasing their usage statistics. Its recommended to first stay with Bitcoin Core if you dont know what the differences are. Do not get fooled by posts and comments telling you otherwise that others are faster or better. There are wars going on discrediting wallets everywhere to get more users using a specific new and better wallet. For a brief overview see also: Wallet Security Dos and Don'ts Paper wallets can be used to store bitcoins offline in non-digital format. Using securely generated paper wallets significantly decreases the chances of your bitcoins being stolen by hackers or computer viruses.Fundamentally, a paper wallet is merely a physical record of a HD wallet private seed. Hardware wallets are a major step to enhanced security and usability. See the Hardware wallets page for more information on which hardware wallet solutions are currently available. No software is perfect, and from time to time there may be security vulnerabilities found in your Bitcoin client as well.Be sure you keep your client updated with the latest bug fixes, especially when a new vulnerability is discovered. We maintain a list a known vulnerabilities on this wiki - you can watch that page to get updates.Note that you don't need to be running the latest major client version: some clients, including the popular Bitcoin-Qt, have older versions available with bugfix-only updates. How To Recover Your Corrupt Or Deleted Bitcoin Core Wallet

How to recover your corrupt or deleted Bitcoin Core wallet This post discusses the methods for recovering a deleted or corrupt Bitcoin Core Wallet. Many other currencies, such as Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Dogecoins and more share Bitcoin Cores wallet format and can be recovered using the same techniques and tools. I assume that you have the wallet password, or there is no password. (Ill post later on what to do if you forget your password.) This information is based on helping dozens of people in similar situations with my Bitcoin wallet recovery service . The information below is just an outline. I hope to add detailed instructions soon. Your wallet could have been deleted in several ways: If you removed the Bitcoin Core software, your wallet is still on your computer. Just go to your Bitcoin Core Data Directory : If you deleted the wallet file, you should first check for any backups you made. If you dont have any backups, you can try two things: Until the file is overwritten by new data, deleted files stay on your hard drive. You can get them back with data recovery software: Android smartphones: Turn onUSB Debugging and connect to PC. Now run Smartphone-enabled data recovery software . iPhone: I do not believe deleted application data (unlike photos, messages, etc) can currently be recovered. Previous versions are copies of files and folders that Windows automatically saves as part of a restore point. Previous versions are sometimes referred to asshadow copies. Follow Microsofts instructions to see if there is an older copy of your wallet. If you did a quick format, all your data are probably still on the hard drive. Use the tools above. If you did a full format on Windows or Mac, your hard drive sectors have been completely zeroed out, and your data is lost. If you w Continue reading >>
