DHL has released a trend report in cooperation with Accenture, a leading global technology consultant, on blockchain technology's potential to transform the logistics industry. Global supply chains are notoriously complex, with a diverse set of stakeholders, varying interests, and many third-party intermediaries - challenges that blockchain is well suited to address. The report includes initial findings on a working prototype developed by DHL and Accenture, which tracks pharmaceuticals from the point of origin to the consumer, preventing tampering and errors. "The experiments with blockchain in finance are well known, but we believe logistics is an area where the new technology will have a truly profound impact," insists Matthias Heutger, Senior Vice President DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation. "Implementing productive solutions however, will require further technological development and, critically, collaboration between all stakeholders." Accenture Debuts Prototype Of Editable Blockchain For Enterprise And Permissioned Systems

Accenture Debuts Prototype Of Editable Blockchain For Enterprise And Permissioned Systems

Accenture Debuts Prototype of Editable Blockchain for Enterprise and Permissioned Systems Accenture has created a prototype of a new capability that enables blockchain technology to be edited under extraordinary circumstances to resolve human errors, accommodate legal and regulatory requirements, and address mischief and other issues, while preserving key cryptographic features. The prototype represents a significant breakthrough for enterprise uses of blockchain technology particularly in banking, insurance and capital markets. The invention is designed for permissioned blockchain systems, which are managed by designated administrators under agreed governance rules. The invention is not designed for permissionless systems, like the cryptocurrency system supporting Bitcoin, which is open and decentralised and where the absence of a single governing authority makes absolutely permanent, or immutable, recordkeeping vital. As we focus on new uses for blockchain technology beyond the realm of cryptocurrency, absolute immutability will become both a virtue and a vice, said Richard Lumb, group chief executive Financial Services at Accenture. For decentralised cryptocurrency systems, such permanent accounting has been crucial in building trust and faith among participants. But for financial services institutions faced with a myriad of risk and regulatory requirements, absolute immutability is a potential roadblock. Our invention strikes a balance for enterprise use that preserves the fundamental value of the technology while enabling enterprise adoption. The invention provides an alternative to existing blockchain technology. Blockchains are immutable to users of the system but, when necessary, designated administrators acting on agreed rules of governance can edit, rewrite o Continue reading >>

Accenture Thinks The Us Can Still Be A Blockchain Innovator

Accenture Thinks The Us Can Still Be A Blockchain Innovator

Accenture Thinks the US Can Still Be a Blockchain Innovator Is the U.S. government committed to testing blockchain solutions? While some at last week's D.C. Blockchain Summit say they suspect the government isn't sincere, David Treat, amanaging director and co-head of Accenture's Global Blockchain Practice, believes this answer couldn't be farther from reality. Despite the sometimes heated rhetoric of the nation's lawmakers on some of its more controversial applications, Treat believes government interest in the technology has produced "an unprecedented degree of participation and collaboration," one that is anequal opportunity for Accenture. Perhaps predictably, Accenture wishes to capitalize on this by using its prior experience in developing government services to secure a central role in the U.S. government's blockchain pursuits, particularly those related to digital identity . The professional services company is currently working with partners such as the World Economic Forum and the United Nations on projects like the Known Traveler Identity Initiative and the ID2020 Alliance. They're also speaking to people at whom the technology is directed - refugees, for instance. But, according to Treat, digital identity projects must necessarily involve individualsandgovernments. "Ultimately, it's important that how we modernize digital identity satisfies all of the needs of what a nation-state needs as well as an individual, and we think the solution pattern we're designing and starting to build really threads that needle and can satisfy both." While digital identity issues are a priority for Accenture, it also has its sights set on facilitating the government adoption of other blockchain applications. According to Treat, Accenture welcomes the input of regulators in the Continue reading >>

Accenture Open Sources Blockchain Integration Framework As A Hyperledger Lab

The growth in the number of blockchain platforms is booming. That is a good thing. Looking beyond a one size fits all platform sparks new possibilities and may lead to platform innovations we have yet to imagine. But the ecosystems developing around platforms must also interact for blockchain to achieve its full potential. With the future state of interoperability as an end goal, last year Accenture announced that we developed and tested two solutions that allow two or more blockchain enabled ecosystems to integrate. Since then, we developed a new solution specifically created for permissioned blockchains that works without a central connector node. I am happy to announce that we open sourced this new solution as Blockchain Integration Framework, a Hyperledger Lab . Blockchain Integration Framework defines a communication model that lets permissioned blockchain ecosystems exchange any on-chain data or custom assets, independent of the platform. Specifically, it introduces an interoperability validator overlay network for each of the blockchain networks for which you want to exchange assets. Interoperability validators are known or broadly discoverable by the ecosystem and typically participants already taking part in the governance or consensus. Interoperability validators will collectively handle export requests from local nodes by verifying against their version of the ledger (steps 1 to 3). Each request is answered by a (configurable) minimum quorum of validator signatures (steps 4 and 5). The network can continue working even if some validators are down or not participating, assuming the minimum quorum can be guaranteed. Any secure off-chain communication system can deliver messages certified by a distributed ledgers transfer validators (step 6). A proof coming fro Continue reading >>

Want a job in blockchain? Go work for Accenture While global management consultant Accenture's involvement with blockchain has not been without controversy, there can be no doubting its growing significance in the sector By Asia Times staff March 16, 2018 7:36 PM (UTC+8) If you want a job in blockchain you should apparently start your search with Accenture. According to Forbes , in English-speaking countries Accenture had 537 blockchain job openings in 2017 while IBM had 237, crypto-currency consultant ConsenSys had 157 and Deloitte and SAP had about 100 a piece. Must-reads from across Asia - directly to your inbox Considering the spate of recent blockchain announcements from Accenture, this news should come as no real surprise. This week Accenture announced the successful completion of a transportation supply-chain trial involving brewing conglomerate AB InBev, shipping company APL, logistics provider Kuehne + Nagel and an unnamed European customs organization. The blockchain-based system, that Accenture claims will reduce the requirement for data entry by up to 80 percent while also reducing the need for cargo checks and the risk of customs penalties, could save the shipping industry hundred of millions a year. Accenture has also just rolled out another blockchain-related transportation project, this time with logistics giant DHL, that will track the intercontinental movement of pharmaceuticals. The global management consultant was also a founding member of the public-private ID2020 blockchain partnership that is working on a range of global identity-verification issues, that includes a project trying to help the one billion people in this world who dont have any form of ID. And while Accentures involvement with blockchain has not always been without controversy, lik Continue reading >>

Accenture Invests In Trade Finance Blockchain Firm Tradeix, Forms Strategic Partnership

Accenture Invests In Trade Finance Blockchain Firm Tradeix, Forms Strategic Partnership

Accenture invests in trade finance blockchain firm TradeIX, forms strategic partnership Today Accenture announced a minority investment in TradeIX , the developer behind the Marco Polo blockchain trade finance platform, and the consultant will also become the preferred integration partner. The trade finance network has more than 30 member firms, including Mastercard and numerous global banks such as Bank of America, Commerzbank, ING, and Standard Chartered. Its been 18 months since Dublin-based TradeIX announced a $16 million Series A led by ING Ventures . The firm was started by CEO Robert Barnes, who previously founded supply chain finance company PrimeRevenue. Marco Polo is a little different from some of the other trade finance consortia because a pure startup like TradeIX is the network operator. In contrast, the other groups have incorporated as bank joint ventures. TradeIX aims to help to digitize trade and trade finance by automating processes which are currently painful. While its best known for the Marco Polo network, it has also been involved in separate projects with AIG, DHL and Siemens . Today most trade finance transactions involve three-way reconciliations agreeing on paperwork such as invoices and delivery between the bank, the customer and supplier. By sharing the underlying documents directly from the ERP systems onto a distributed ledger technology (DLT) solution, the reconciliation disappears. For corporates, apart from removing friction, Marco Polo introduces the option of getting financing from multiple banks from a single dashboard that plugs directly into its ERP system. To date, the integrations are with Oracle Netsuite, Microsoft Dynamics and Xero. But Accentures involvement may see the number of ERP solutions expand. The companies plan to wo Continue reading >>

Accenture, Sap And R3 Build Currency Token Prototype For Connecting Rtgs To Corda Blockchain

Accenture, Sap And R3 Build Currency Token Prototype For Connecting Rtgs To Corda Blockchain

Accenture (NYSE: ACN), SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) and R3 are collaborating and co-innovating to build a real-time gross settlement system that will enable faster, more efficient, reliable and secure payments between banks and customers. With real-time gross settlement (RTGS) systems, electronic funds transfers between banks occur in real time and settle on a one-to-one basis. This process is often used for high-value transactions that require immediate clearing and are typically handled by central banks. The payment platform plans to allow for integration and interoperability between distributed ledger technology (DLT) -based and classic government-issued payments and settlements. The co-innovated prototype design uses currency tokens to facilitate end-to-end settlement . Currency tokens are used in preference to digital currencies in this design because they serve as a proxy for standard central bank fiat currency and use cryptography to increase security and authenticity. The prototype provides the flexibility that is essential to adopting and integrating new payment technologies while allowing banks to maintain their current payment formats. Because the current payment settlement infrastructure is highly complex and fragmented, RTGS systems that leverage DLT and cryptographically secure tokenized payments can help central banks improve efficiency and security, said John Velissarios, a managing director and global blockchain technology lead at Accenture. The RTGS prototype, designed in collaboration with SAP and R3, demonstrates the next stage of efficiency in payment systems and ultimately, paves the way to linking to tokenized-assets, like equities, to create an increasingly integrated and seamless financial services ecosystem. The prototype uses the SAP Payment Engine app Continue reading >>

Accenture's Shipping-based Blockchain Project Gets Approval

Accenture's Shipping-Based Blockchain Project Gets Approval Utility and construction businesses drive MDU Resources' (MDU) earnings in Q1. Accenture PLC ACN recently announced that a consortium consisting of AB InBev, APL, Kuehne + Nagel and an anonymous European customs organization examined and approved its blockchain technology aimed at addressing global shipping issues. The pilot project marked an effort to transition to a process where data could be shared securely through blockchain instead of physical documents, thus leading to cost savings for the industry. Per the press release, The solution can speed up the entire flow of transport documents, reduce the requirement for data entry by up to 80 percent, simplify data amendments across the shipping process, streamline the checks required for cargo and reduce the burden and risk of penalties for customs compliance levied on customers. Accenture PLC Price | Accenture PLC Quote The secured storage and transmission of data through a decentralized database is the most attractive feature of the blockchain technology. Originally used for cryptocurrency transactions, the system is transparent and incorruptible and is meant to provide unaltered information. Since blockchain uses a distributed consensus, tampering with its records without being noticed by an entire network is difficult. This makes the system extremely safe. With minimum chances of double counting and hacking, the possibility of monetary losses is low. Driven by multi-industrial adoption, the technology has rapidly gained traction over the last few years. The solutions offered by other key players in this domain like International Business Machines IBM and Microsoft MSFT have been adopted by the insurance, banking, food supply and automobile industries amon Continue reading >>
